Epica - Sancta Terra (Ft. Floor Jansen) Live Retrospect (First Time React/Review) 

The chemistry of those two friends is insane . Stabat mater Dolorosa Epica featuring Floor must be on your radar opera or hymn sang to a metal crowd ! Who else could do that. ?

The lyrics of Sancta Terra are written by Epica lead singer Simone, it's a dark theme. It's about a suicide bomber who thinks he is in heaven but he actually ended up in hell. They did one more song together on this Epica Retrospect live show. The show lasted for 3 hours...take a look at Unleashed, Design your Universe and The Divine Conspiracy and the other song they did with Floor Jansen Stabat Mater Dolorosa. This is not an Epica song though but a 13th century hymn.

These two are some of the best singers alive. Mark Jansen (no relation) the guitar player was with Floor in After Forever and left to be the founder of Epica. Floor and Simone are old friends, having lived together years ago.

Simone was 3 months pregnant here AND it was near the end of the set! Pretty amazing.

These women have been friends since their youths and both are mega-talented. FYI, This song was written by Simone Simons and according to her, it's about someone who died and believes he's in heaven, but he actually is in hell, but he feels good there, so this is where he belongs. Rock on, like your guys.

Floor and Simone sing on many Ayreon albums and in one of the two live concerts: Ayreon Universe live; with Floor and Marko and many other well known musicians. Epica's Retrospect will always be the best live concert I've ever attended to. A masterpiece !!!

The recorded live show took part in Eindhoven, Netherlands on March 23, 2013 at the Klokgebouw and was sold out. Because of the great demand by international fans, Epica announced a live stream, called the Retrostream, on March 4, 2013. Epica performed on stage with the same orchestra that accompanied Epica in the recording of the live album The Classical Conspiracy: the 70-piece Extended Hungarian Remenyi Ede Chamber Orchestra and the Choir of Miskolc National Theatre. The expanded ensemble mostly played Epica songs, including a whole new song called Retrospect, especially written for this live show with the same name. Like on The Classical Conspiracy, Epica played some classical music, excerpts from operas and movie soundtracks, however not as many as on the aforementioned show. The album was released on CD, DVD and Blu-ray on November 8, 2013 through Nuclear Blast Records. Before the release of the show on Blu-ray and DVD, the show premiered at two movie theaters: Mathäser Multiplex Kino in Munich, Germany (6 November) and Service Bioscoop Zien in Eindhoven, Netherlands (7 November).[6] On the day of the release, the show was shown in a Belgian movie theater: Kinepolis in Kortrijk, Belgium. This was recorded for a DVD, and what a show it was! 28 songs! Orchestra! Choir! TWO Floor Jansen appearances! Acrobats! It was nuts. If you like, "Chasing the Dragon" from that show was great. 🤘🤘

Mat was thinking the same thing most of us were when they were harmonizing back to back. He was imagining these two amazing ladies in a more college time...a place where experiments might occur.

Well while I will never make to those Gates of Heaven at least I know what music will be playing at them....I swear the angels are green with envy listening to these two close friends just stir your soul like few things in life truly can. Great reaction and I am with you give me an entire album of these 2 dueting, I don't even care if it is the YT Terms of Service Agreement it would still be EPIC!!!

I don't know what it is about The Netherlands but they have the majority of lead female singers in Symphonic metal bands. There's two on stage right there. I think there is something like 9 of them. All amazing.

netherland paradise for female metal opera singers and metal symphonic progresive bands

Sadly, we can't get a whole album of Simone/Floor collaborations, but there is this band called Nocturna that has two female vocalists, one singing in an opera style, one singing in a rock style, and they're symphonic metal too! You might want to check it out. I think they only have one album so far. Their video for "New Evil" could be good for a reaction. If you don't like the songs, there are some beautiful gothy outfits!

You must do next song of the show - "Design Your Universe". It`s f..g amazing and even better but without Floor. This is essence of symphonic metal genre name. Do it asap. It`s one of two their best songs to me. Another is one of the heavier "Kongdom of Heaven" (Mexico live).

They really are the two most "show-offy" vocalists in metal...and there's nothing wrong with that. Metal has always been about guitarists and drummers showing off; why not the vocalists also, now that metal finally has singers on a par with the musicians?

Metal is Family! Mark Jansen (no blood relative) was with Floor in After Forever and, at least for a while, was Simone's boyfriend! They formed Epica, named after a Kamelot album..... Simone married the keyboard player from Kamelot, Oliver Palotai. They have a son about the same age as Freya, Floor's daughter!.... Another vote for "Stabat Mater Dolorosa" - same two, same concert!
