10:00 YES! You got it, in Epica's lyrics the growl, Simone and the choir in (most) of their songs represent different perspectives on the subject of the song. Super astute observation, most reactors never get that! I hit subscribe and notify the moment you said it. I suggest "Epica - Chasing The Dragon live at Retrospect" because its a fantastic symphonic piece as well as a fantastic metal ballad, Mark uses the growls briefly for storytelling and Simone is an angel incarnated in the flesh, like always. Oh, and there's aerial acrobats hanging in silk drapes from the ceiling:)

Omega Alive was their 2021 virtual concert , recorded over 5 days, and streamed online together, when they couldn't tour due to restrictions. An intro and 14 full songs, their first time playing songs from the Omega album. This was the 2nd full song in the concert and the album, lyrics by Simone, music by bassist Rob van der Loo. I would think that the fashion and makeup elements are something that Simone keeps in mind. She has her own website, a beauty and lifestyle blog, called Smoonstyle.

When you dig into all of their lyrics, you'll find that the messages are overwhelmingly positive, even dealing with very serious topics the lyrics will be about overcoming the thing rather than the thing itself

Thank you, Jenna, for making the effort wanting to explain the meaning of "The Skeleton Key". Having watched the song now, I think I will go along with your view,...like someone having the desire to want to open up, to lighten up the burden of whatever darkness one carries within, but where the reference to the light sort of signals objects of relief and of something lighter that could in effect be the "key". Whichever the final analysis, I find this a great reaction to a great band.

Fantastic reaction! Love your analysis of the lyrics. Many of their songs delve into philosophical and psychological ideas. Not surprising given that Mark has a degree in Psychology. One of the things I love about Epica is their use of choirs. In this song the use two different ones. The first one was an adult choir that was a backing track and then the children's choir that came in after that piano/Simone interlude. Fun fact, the keyboardist's daughter is one of the child choir members here. When they performed this song during their 20th anniversary concert they had the kids come out on stage which was super cool and such an amazing memory for those kids. They also do a gorgeous acapella version of Rivers in Omega Alive where the keyboardist's wife is one of the singers backing Simone. That song is followed by one of my current top 5 Epica songs, Once Upon a Nightmare. Inspired by the Germanic fairytale of the Erlking or Alder King who lingers in the woods at night stalking children who stay to long and kills them with a single touch. I love both versions and of course the imagery in the music video fits perfectly with the lyrics so it is a treat not to be missed.

Yeah Simone…….. what’s not to like, she’s amazing! Nice follow up could be Chasing the Dragon, again with Mark growling bits and Simone as an Angel - nice!

Love discovering new music through this channel! I love the interpretation and pointing out things in the songs I wouldn't have noticed. I can't think of any other interpretation that would fit especially about the skeleton key. Good stuff
