environment or other strong factor can change epigenetics. So epigenetics can't change gene permanently but can change genes expression! And it can be restored!
This is fascinating! Does that explain the fear of things that one wouldn't normally come into contact with? Why is there such a widespread fear of snakes and spiders in countries that don't have deadly versions of either? And is going on a diet actually bad for long term weight loss, the less you eat the more you keep type of scenario?
Good segment but a few slight inaccuracies should be cleared up. The gene is not turned off or on… The gene is either read or not read, edited or not edited. The choice of words is very important for a clearer understanding of the processes involved.
As the adopted son of an adopted father (and now a father myself), I have done some deep dives into epigenetics. While this video does a provide a basic introduction, I personally feel that it really, really lacks the the details of the studies that have been done. Anyone wanting more information would benefit from searching "transgenerational epigenetics".
Dr Bruce Lipton wrote about Epigenetics in 2005 in his book titled Biology of Belief. It’s good to see this is becoming more mainstream but it is not new. It is a very good read and worth the time. My concern was the moment “drugs” were mentioned. I would highly recommend reading Dr Lipton book to learn more about epigenetics, he was considered a heretic geneticist in his day.
Your sister does not have exactly the same DNA as you unless she is your identical twin. Since each child gets a random mix of genes from both mother and father, two children are likely to have a great many differences. Even without epigenetics.
i was literally thinking on the same line that ‘Can stress, depression or trauma be hereditary or genetic’ like can it pass on to generations and then you dropped this video 🤯
When you short circuit these processes through external chemically induced changes you’re directly interfering in the process itself which time is a necessary component for.
I myself with my a very healthy lifestyle I think had suppressed the expression of my T2D gene for about 20 years but now I am in the 79s has started taking since 2 years 1 g metformin daily. It may be due to my aging beta cells of the pancreas. But I am quite sure that your lifestyle can switch off and switch on the expression of your genes 🧬
I wanted to like this video but then Ibhave heard, the solution is to take drugs and drugs .... so a big dislike .... I could only guess who was financing this video
3:57 what a violent experiment to subject innocent mice to...! I realize we don't really have many alternatives... but we could try to be a bit more humane with our methods...!
I stopped studying this sort of thing because I felt too sorry for the animals. So now I think we could live without the results of these experiments, since the experimental animals can’t live with them.
We are able to change a society towards extreme resistance and another one in extremely arrogant. We are successful enough to create a world without balance in between by force. We think we are now Gods
I don’t think we can. It may sound off topic but I chanced on this cool translator that does everything and more of what a translator should have, name is Immersive Translate and one thing that can really help is it’s new feature, which lets you create a custom AI expert for translating anything. Thank me later, it's gold.
I remember her saying in the beginning that everything is written in our genes. And then at the end she says exactly the opposite. Well, which one is it?
Honestly, I'm skeptical about this. There's not doubt about the environment can influde in our genes. But can that influence really be transmitted to offspring? How? 🤔 As far as we know, what we inheritate are just genes, not any marker used to mark genes. It's worth noting that the nature of those markers is not explained in the video (are they proteins, other compounds...?), so we can't judge properly if those markers could really be inheritated. I would also have appreciated that references to the cited scientific studies had been shared in the description of the video.
Why do you say this? They explain very briefly the "how." This is a >6 minute video. Feel free to do some research (can be here on RU-vid) and learn more. Skepticism is healthy but it is unreasonable to be skeptical about something one doesn't know about when resources are available - one must learn.
Genes are transferred in cells... All of which carry out entire DNA... As well as other similar structures like RNA... So epigenomes don't necessarily have to be part of your DNA to be inherited... They just have to be part of the cells involved in the formation of offspring... Plus the instructions for the production of these epigenomes would be part of the DNA itself...
In the video, neither the nature of the epigenetic markers nor the way they're inheritated are explained at all, @@e.matthews. If you really think it's explained in the video, tell me when exactly. Unless you can, it's you who actually understood nothing about what is told. As a biologist, I know about this topic much more than what you can imagine. If you really think I'm wrong, I challenge you to prove it.
In humans, the only inheritable information is the one contained in the DNA, @@joshuaohuka7719. The mere fact of something being "contained inside a cell" doesn't mean at all it can be inheritated from parents to children. On the other hand, if the intructions to code epigenetic markers are contained in the DNA, then those epigenetic markers wouldn't be triggered by the environment. So the idea of environmental factors having effect not only on the individuals themselves, but also on the offspring, keeps having no basis (if it really had, that would mean Lamarck's evolution theory was right!).
@@Pab-tq5cw I'm curious, you said that "as a biologist" you "know about this topic much more than you can imagine". At the same time, you act like this video is the first time you've ever heard about epigenetics and like you have no idea what the molecular basis of epigenetic markers is. So which is it? At first I thought you were pretending to not know anything about it to critique the video from the perspective of a layman but it seems like you genuinely don't understand it
Take a look at our old friends the Jewish community. Great people but look at the situation right now. Totally taking it out on those poor innocent people in Gaza. 41k
Why would you call them the "Jewish community"? You are talking about Israel. Israel is not the Jewish community, it is a nation-state. Jews are not a monolith.
What you are saying is hard to understand. It is a complex subject. But to top it all off, you add loud music to it !!! You are doing a scientific program, but you have not done any research on how to communicate well. 😡
@aprilmay7816 Believing in god and his son jesus changes our genes how the scientist didnt find out earlier🙄this video is about science not superstition.
Believe in True God. God sent His only Son to keep us OUT of hell by Christ's perfect sacrifice! God gives ALL mankind the freedom to choose heaven or hell, we choose heaven by clinging to Jesus, and trusting the finished work of the cross ... But people who decide to reject the Way to heaven the Lord Jesus. (THE SON OF THE LIVING GOD) have already CHOSEN eternal hell, PLEASE THINK ABOUT It, repent of your sins and FOLLOW JESUS! while it's STILL NOT too late!
Jesus said love god and love your neighbor as yourself. Man said to meddle in the affairs of your neighbor’s relationship with god. Keeps a person distracted from his true purpose (purportedly to love god and neighbor).
Many people are uncomfortable, to say the least, with the idea of an eternal hell. This discomfort, though, is often the result of an incomplete understanding of three things: the nature of God, the nature of man, and the nature of sin. John 14:6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
