A Stunning Recreation of the Top-of-the-Line ES Model From 1959
In partnership with Gibson™ Custom, Epiphone is proud to release the 1959 ES-355, a stunning recreation of the preeminent ES™ model from the legendary class of 1959. It’s the top-of-the-line ES model in all its glory, from the dimensions to the contours to the precise inlay patterns and sonic experience.
The Epiphone Inspired by Gibson Custom 1959 ES-355 features a 5-ply layered maple/poplar body with a solid maple centerblock for sustain and feedback resistance, a one-piece mahogany neck with a 50s Rounded Medium C profile, and an ebony fretboard that is adorned with block mother of pearl inlays. The Gibson-style “open book” headstock features the Split Diamond and Epiphone logo inlays in mother-of-pearl, along with gold Grover® Rotomatic® tuners and the Inspired by Gibson double diamond logo etched on the back.
The 1959 ES-355 is powered by a pair of Gibson Custombuckers that are hand-wired to CTS® potentiometers, Mallory™ capacitors, and a Switchcraft® pickup selector switch and output jack making it one of the best semi-hollow body guitars we've ever made. A brown and pink hardshell case with the Inspired by Gibson Custom logo is also included to keep your guitar safe when in transit. You also have a chocie of two stunning colors; Cherry Red and Classic White!

Before everyone comes in to cry about how expensive it is, realize that the Gibson version of this is $7,000. About the only real differences between the two are the nitro finish and the bridge. And the Gibson case is a little nicer. All the same electronics, including the $500 Custombucker pickups, same tuners, one piece neck, same $200 custom shop tailpiece as the Gibson, it is even constructed with maple and poplar, unlike the other Epis have been, which are layered maple only. Same ebony fingerboard. This is a crazy good deal. I get that $1300 isn’t chump change, but you are getting a TON for that money. If you just hate China, can’t do anything about that.

it's not the same, the dimensions of the guitar are slightly different. The neck especially is NOT the same.

While I like these new epiphones, they are not the same custombuckers, the current custom shops have the unpotted custom buckers, while these are the older wax potted. Poly feel on these are okay but the custom shop feels/sounds better. Is it $7K + better? Perhaps not to many but many still pay for that better defined sound. Pickguard on these look off on where it connects to the body, no hide glue, and not a true ABR-1 bridge. I guess these have to make it inferior to justify the Gibson in their catalog

Everyone is moaning about these new epiphone's but i think theyre great. For the specs i think theyre still good value. Im not a pro player, i cant afford or justify gibson prices. These are obtainable.

Just got my IGC 1959 ES-355 in Ebony today direct from Epiphone. My very first semi-hollow body. And it’s fantastic. It’s VOS. But, I prefer gloss. As expected, it’s got those sharp fret ends. Other than that, craftsmanship is flawless. For me, it looks, feels and plays great. It’s got that woody and airy tone. Cheers!

I dont want to complain about the prices cause honestly I want one of these and the firebird v's, and a les paul it is shocking though we were used to about 800 for a nice epiphone and suddenly the prices have doubled so it is shocking but these high end epiphones look fantastic. I just can't justify as a home player paying the freight

Very excited by this guitar. I am however primarily a bass player and I would love to see the re-release of the Epiphone Rivoli Bass with all the appointments of the Gibson EB2 for about the same price. I wouldn't be able to get my order in quick enough!

Great guitar! I’m prob gonna wait to buy it used though. The Epiphone Bonamassa ES-335 was $1300 new but no one is paying more than $850 for it used.

Just for reference, a 355-TD (non-stereo, no vibrato) had to be ordered custom made in 1959. The stock price was $645 with a case in 1959. $645 in 1959 dollars is nearly $7000 which is what a custom shop 355 costs. There would be a custom upcharge to have one like Epiphone offers here too! Made in China or not, you're getting a helluva guitar for the money with those specs. I'm not a huge fan of Custombuckers but at the very least, you could sell them for $300 on Reverb and buy whatever set you want. The newer Epiphones are quite good to be honest. I own a Epi 1959 Les Paul and it's a better guitar than the US-made Norlin era Les Pauls I owned.

Gibson has been needing a pro quality 335 in the 1k range. Ibanez and D'angelico have dominated this price point for years. Now if Epi could just make a Sheraton with the modern design that doesn't way 9 pounds.

Why is Gibson reissuing these guitars lately without the Varitone? Part of the reason I always wanted a 345/355 was because of the Varitone switch.

@@eoinjennings519 I can see that one making sense because then it requires having a stereo cable to be able to use both pickups. But the Varitone was part of the tone of those guitars. A lot of players used it. BB and Freddie, Elvin Bishop, pretty Jorma from Jefferson Airplane did as well.

Small market, expensive production , only 3 cats would buy one, not good for company, thats why you see lefty LPs ( and thats not including the load of lefty Strats) more often , more popular guitar along guitar players in general , more chance to buy them even in lefty . It sucks but thats how it works, sadly less bought/popular/known models arent availabe for lefties.
