What a way to play out. Astounding Dave. No one person can throw everything into a looper, and it comes out sounding like that. You are sculpting soundscapes here mate., ..... With the big light off.
Yeah its a shame. Its because most of us aren't getting payrises that match the rate of inflation. You'd think that giant guitar corporations could probably afford to keep prices the same but someone will always find a way to justify it.
Epiphone was never meant to be a budget brand in the first place and they weren't until Norlin ruined them when they took over Gibson..JC Curliegh Restored Epiphone back to a premium brand in 2019
OMG Dave,. there's just no words to do justice for what I just heard you play, so I'll just say that was absolutely amazing dude!!! Thanks for sharing that with us people here on YT.
I've been looking for another LP custom silverburst for awhile, and when I found out I could get a preorder for batch 2 "The Berserker" by Frank Frazetta, custom art model from the Epiphone Adam Jones LesPaul custom signature series. I was all in. I bought it specifically to swap in EMG 81/85 ZW set and replace the p.o.s. tuners with Gotoh keystones. I also installed a Tusq xl #6060 preslotted nut to fix the butchered string spacing. The neck carve and playability are extraordinary. Better than ANY Les Paul I've ever seen. Alnico 85 in the bridge and the ceramic 81 in the neck give it what I want. It's alot of guitar my friend! Enjoy!
61 years old and never heard of Adam Jones, most likely because I was not a big Tool fan, but an excellent guitarist, Dave you seem to introduce new guitarist to me once in awhile, thanks
I'm sorry Dave, but your story about the bridge pickup is factually inaccurate on most accounts. The SD Distortion has been made for years (it's also referred to as the SH-6). I'm not aware of them ever having stopped production since it was introduced. For those that might care, it's basically a SD JB with a ceramic magnet instead of an Alnico 5 magnet. The context is that AJ has said he prefers his to be wound by a specific person (not a man, but a woman named Maricela Juarez who now manages the SD Custom Shop after having worked for the company for decades). Those pickups were frequently referred to as "DDJ", indicating it was a Duncan Distortion wound by Juarez. THAT is what has made them rare as she presumably doesn't wind pickups much anymore given her position as the manager of the Custom Shop. However, you can order one from the SD Custom Shop and request that she do it. Regarding the guitar's tone, I think a lot of it probably does have to do with the pickup. But I also wouldn't discount the fact that it has 500k pots and uses 0.047 uF tone caps. If you've found some of your other humbucking guitars too bassy, you might want to try this pot/cap combo. I put it on a Les Paul Classic that I've had for 25 years and it suddenly became the guitar I always wanted it to be. Better still, go for 50s wiring over modern wiring and see how you like using the volume knob to clean it up without losing a bunch of high end. Hope this helps! Edit: Don't worry about breaking the silver switch tip. They actually aren't all that difficult to find.
People talking “but it’s just an Epiphone.” Who cares when it looks and SOUNDS like good. Is it really overpriced when it checks all the boxes for what you want in a guitar? Amazing playing, as always, Dave.
A wonderful looking Les Paul, I don't normally go for the gimmicked-out models they are too often cheesy and obvious, this one has class! Not to mention the 'guitar' nature, it is a winner like the man who is playing it for us. Just looked up the price, Geezus it aint cheap!
Adam Jones's Les Paul has such a vibe to it. It's like some otherworldly sinister but majestic vibe which is just perfect for the style of music it creates. I'm not surprised you get weird feelings from it and it's absolutely rock n' roll AF that you're actually going to use it and I'm sure Mr Jones would be thrilled at the prospect of someone actually playing it instead of babying it and letting it gather dust.
Man y’all gonna laugh. I’m a Tool fan and I was sooo happy when I managed to get my hands on one of the Frazetta Berserk models. Never in my life was I first so happy and then so disappointed. Guitar arrived and I was stunned by the looks. The I realized how heavy it was and it completely destroyed everything. Of course I knew that LP customs are especially heavy. But that thing weighed a TON. It was ridiculous. I ended up selling it sadly. Because I thought it just doesn’t make sense to have such an expensive decoration. Made another tool fan happy (without charging more, of course - I absolutely hate scalpers and what they’re doing)
@@doug1274 yeah I know. I checked all the bigger online shops that weigh their higher priced guitars and you’re right, all over the place. I just didn’t find one that really attracted me.
Very cool Dave! I'm going to mention something I've mentioned before about humbuckers ...you don't need to lower the pickups on the bass side my friend...just get a simple GE7 EQ pedal....you can switch between any pickups and dial them in without messing with the instrument..that low whoompf sound can be eliminated with a flick of a slider nob...as much as you use outboard gear I'm amazed you don't have one of those on your pedal board. EQ is one of the most useful pedals you can have in my view. Great for a boost as well as coloring your gain tones.
ok wait, i'v ebeen coming back to play this almost back to back since i first saw this video and one thing has stuck out MASSIVELY. i think we need a "play in the style of adam jones" video, through it on your website and charge us for it, we will buy it (then youtube cant copywrite your awesomeness) i've always found your instructions easy to follow for some reason and adam is a huge inspiration to me (as john is)
I don't have this one but I have a 2014 epi custom pro silver Burst took the bridge pickup put in neck and installed a Duncan parallel axis distortion and been my fav guitar since 2014 and I own more expensive
You, my friend, are responsible for my last 3 gear acquisitions (MG100 HFX, Cube Street II) and my upcoming, should I have enough to grab it before it gets away (an Adam Jones "Berserker". I really.....really....should stop watching your channel.
Smoke me a kipper, she's a beaut guitar that one..... Some guitars just have 'it', and that one has all the inspiration one could ask for..... The pursuit of tone, it has been suggested, is the Neverending Quest...... There are signposts along the way..... Groove on.....🎸🤙😎🎸🤙😎
I really like the first edition, the girl with the bees in her hair. What's the case like?. Is it one of the Lite cases they've started using?. I don't think I could ever afford one. Shame most music stores are in out of the way places and you tend to buy online these days, I think I got my first guitar from Rimmers. What's the weight like on these?. I've been having problems sitting down and playing these days, I've been getting soreness and stiffness in my lower back and hip area.
A professionals guitar in a professionals hands - what could be better ? I long ago gave up buying guitars for their looks - the feel and sound are everything and yes they are not wall ornaments and need to be played hard. This one really does sound epic in your hands Dave. I suspect a lot of us could make it sound more ordinary but that's the point of having guitar heroes. Can't wait for the new album.
That’s an awesome guitar. Adam Jones is probably my favorite “metal” guitar player because he is not very flashy and has a more alternative rock influence to his playing. But he’s great in his simplicity and keeping a motif throughout the song but changing it a little bit here and there. Also he has a unique technique that I don’t know if anyone else does is his hammer-on pull through technique. You can hear it on the main riff for Jambi. Learning Tool songs has helped me with my tremolo picking and learning about weird times signatures. Anyways he’s great in his simplicity and the riffs he comes up with.
I’m coming from the exact same position as you Dave, I had never really paid attention to Tool but all the hype piqued my interest and now - oh my god! The tone he has is exactly what I want to hear and play. Also was never a fan of silver bursts, as they were mostly halo rather than teardrop, but epiphone have knocked it out of the park with the aged silver. So, is a Diezel next on your list?😁
Oh my giddy aunt. I want one! Damn you Simpson! 😂 Fantastic expressive playing too of course, as ever. Loved all those tones and atmospheres. Jolly smashing. Yep. I want one. Thanks Dave.
This video managed to catch me as I was finishing off my Strat restore project so was playing along for a good while there Dave, got me right in the groove and my lace sensors were sounding sweet! Great playing Dave, I love these high end epiphones myself, much more sensible money than buying a full blown Gibson.
I was looking for the perfect review of the guitar and I think I found it. I wasn’t sure I wanted to gather that much money for a guitar like this one, but I’m convinced I do now! I wasn’t sure the Duncan bridge had actual clean tones but I don’t really care anymore. You REALLY nailed Jones’s style and tone. I wish I could play like you. I’m 15 btw :) thank you man! Really appreciate your stuff!
Hi Dave, I got my Adam Jones Custom (Veil of Bees) back in December, and I'm STILL in the honeymoon phase with it. I like your take on this beauty. Greetings from the U.S.!✌️🎸
Dude, I'm only a partway into the playing portion of this video, and this shit absolutely *SLAYS*! Unfortunately, I have somewhere to be, but I'm definitely listening to the rest when I get back!
Dave what a piece of magicwood. To me it sounds like it resonates and have harmonics like no other guitar you have played before. I'm not in the room so i couldn't tell for sure. So in the hands of someone like you who can phrase for days it goes from something that is just stuff to something with purpose. By the way the carpets decorating the wall in the background suits the vibe very nicely
Its interesting you mention the collectability aspect actually. I remember when they first launched they basically all sold out on pre-order, I actually don't even think most stores actually got to properly list or stock them. Then the next few drops were the same. Now it seems like people have chilled the fuck out a bit as Andertons currently have 7-8 in stock of the latest edition and they're even on sale!
Yeah, I was going to say that, ant not just at Andertons. PMT and GAK have them on sale too. But high output humbuckers are not what I need right now. My contemporary tele offers that.
Aesthetics question for you, if I may, good sir - Do you prefer the Gibson or the Epiphone shaped headstock? Personally, I prefer the Epiphone one, and I really don't like that broken-diamond decoration - much prefer the crown-esque one.
Dave, Was this another Andertons purchase after your great looking sounding Gibson Les Paul? There’s still lot’s available with that picture on the back at reduced prices now because Epiphone got it wrong.😂👍
alright now you killed me with this piece of badassery since Adam j is one of my personal fav guitar player of all next to the ones such Tony iommi and Andrew from My dying Bride etc , so i can also relate with jones and adore TOOL and got to love a good SilverBurst Beauty of Honor seriously love this Guitar
Beautiful playing on a beautiful guitar Dave.. I was torn between this and the Nick Johnson Tele by Schecter.. Went with the tele but damn if I had seen this review beforehand im not sure what I would have done. What drum machine do you use by the way??.. They always sound awesome🤘
Wow! Just wow! great looking guitar but man its not about looks its about personality and sweet gravy does that guitar have it! Well in your hands Dave it certainly does! awesome playing Dave and a lot of work went into that so thank you, I am still grinning.
I own one of the second run. The first time i picked it up i hated it. But i couldnt get rid of it and I started picking it up more. It's different than my other guitars. I also think its weird that the Epiphone is closer to the original in specs than the Gibosn Standard (although that guitar seems really cool). The neck profile is really nice too.
Hey Dave, I just wanted to tell you that I saw the RHCPs for the first time last night in London. I always said that if John ever rejoined the band I would book immediately. So when he did I booked to see them in Athens but covid and restrictions hit so it was cancelled. They opened with can't stop and scar tissue. Seeing him and his strat, something and someone that I have spent so much time watching on RU-vid and listening to them as a child, I got a little chocked up. I just wanted to tell you.
i have loved silveburst les pauls as long as i've loved tool, the issue i run into is here in australia is $3500aud. i really hope they bring out a epiphone standard (no artwork) of these and i cant be the only one who now wants a 60min dave ambient guitar track
I'll have to listen to Tool more. They are one of my significant other's favorite bands but I've never gotten into them as much, though I have been to one of their concerts with her and I do have to say they're AMAZING live. Incredible stage presence. We've also been to A Perfect Circle (another of the Tool's lead singer's bands) and they have a similarly great stage presence, though another band I haven't gotten into as much. Also, oddly enough, the one signature guitar pedal I have is Justin Chancellor of Tool's signature wah. I don't even play bass (yet, I've been waffling on starting and I think Royal Blood may have just convinced me to pick it up soon), but the Justin Chancellor wah is just an amazing all-around fuzz wah and works wonderfully on guitar. I would definitely love to see you demo it with the Adam Jones guitar! 😀
