Epiphone 'Joe Pass' Practice Session with loop pedal

I took out my old Epi Joe Pass, first time in a very long while, put on a new set of strings, and just sat down and played, with the loop pedal plugged in.
Check out the online jazz guitar course on mattotten.podi...
@1:50 My Little Boat; @8:48 Cry Me a River; @20:36 Make You Feel My Love
This time you get to see the whole practice session, mistakes and all, I just cut the parts where I was only thinking what to do next....
Sometimes you see me looking down...I'm working the loop pedal with my left foot, so you don't see it, but I start it, stop it, and erase it. As usual, I'm not using an amp here, so this is the pure Epiphone sound, recorded directly from the pickup, some reverb added later, a very decent sound I've always thought.

Some on here say " why dont you smile and have fun? " Well..........they have no idea ! Some people like me really understand that your smiling, your enjoyment, your heart, your soul and everything else is coming out of your fingers. For me, your style, your ear, your intervals, your touch is ultimately perfect. Dont change. Cheers

I got my Joe Pass in 2002 in a natural finish. It’s the most sweet guitar I’ve owned so far. Thanks for the treat to the ears.

You're kidding right? First off, I've been listening to you play for years, and everything you play is delightful to listen to. Second for years I've listened to reviews trashing the Joe Pass as a cheap alternative not fit for real players. You just evaporated that myth and put me in the market of affordability. Thanks for the excellent clip. Nice.

Hey! Matt! I found good combination for jazz. Fender Champ600 speaker out to Marshall MG15DFX. It sounds very fine. Please try once. It's surely better than so far called jazz amp.

I paid au $ 650.00 second hand for mine (same burst finish, A+ condition Korean 1996 If I remember correctly), run it through and Engnator Rebel 20wt , then a Crate Quad with 70/80's and it's a beauty. I've a Korean Sheraton (1999) and that kicks for some more meaty stuff. I just use an Xvive looper and I get enough from that at the moment. These 'Joe Pass' Epi's are just the ants pants to me !! Great Video Bloke, really tasty work. There were bits when I closed my eyes and could hear Robben Ford coming through, damn fine playing.

I picked up a Joe Pass the other day just out of curiosity and was surprised at how big it felt, the neck was much thicker than I am used to, it was very difficult for me to play. I respect anyone who can make it appear so effortless and get such a great sound from it, beautiful !

I've only got stupid stubby fingers but find the neck on my JP just right for me - shows how much variation there can be between examples of the same guitar
@insalinity5558
@insalinity5558 4 года назад
@@barriemills6628 there's quite a lot of variation in the necks between the year models. My 2019 JP II Pro for instance had a wide but quite thin neck. Some of the earlier models had quite thick necks. They all sound smooth though!

Dear Matt, please receive my congrats directly from Natal, Brazil. I've been having a nice afternoon here correcting my students' essays while listening to your smooth and proficient playing. I was especially happy to hear some Bossa Nova in your repertoire (O Barquinho - i.e. The Little Boat, at 2:00 onwards). In fact, right now I'm looking for a new guitar to buy, and was considering an Epi Joe Pass. Your video was the push I was needing to go ahead. Best wishes.

So what did you record the pickup direct to? lt sounds really full and rich, With just the right amount of brightness and warmth. l like your using loop pedal for practice video. l just picked up an Boss RC-3 and trying to get use to it. l can see it will help me with my recording timing and perhaps non recording timing. And it is fun !

I have a Korean version of this guitar. It has the pickup selector switch on the cutaway side. Don't know what year it was made and they did a shitty job when marking the serial number. Great sounding guitar for the price and laminate construction. I'm very happy. No need to ever get rid of it.

Matt proves the performance has more to do with the skills of the performer than the necessity of owning any particular instrument. I've a similar instrument in an Ibanez 2460 L5 replica that's essentially a dead box compared to other carved spruce archtops I own, but the 2460 is equally gratifying and musical as any guitar I've owned. Epiphone archtops are as good a place to start as any and better than many. Nice job once again Matt.
