Yeah man I have one as well and absolutely love it for the price. I bring this guitar out when I have friends over and hide my real Les Paul! Not only that, I have the option for differently tuned guitars that I can just pick up and play.
it is beautiful and has an EXCELENT SOUND TO IT THANK YOU MARTIN I WONDER DOES THAT TUNER PICK UP JOBBER REALLY WORK AND IF SO DOES IT WORK AL THE TIME?. I DID READ A REVIEW TO THE EFFECT THAT THE ONBOARD TUNING MECH SOMETIMES DOESNT WORK?
Rick Sanders It has an on/off switch on it. It's perfect for life performance - all you need is to change the machine heads, and the guitar is perfect.
I got this guitar because I found a “package deal” on Craigslist that had a distortion box that I wanted. I didn’t need or want the amp, guitar, gig bag, guitar stand, strap etc. just wanted the boss distortion pedal. But dude only wanted 80$ for everything. So I took it. Well, I figured I’d sell everything else and end up with a free pedal. Anyways. The pedal sucked. The amp sucked, the strap was cheap the guitar stand was really nice and worked for my Flying V. But the little Epi cleaned up very nicely . After restringing it, conditioning the frets, setting the action to 3/16, with not one buzzing fret, it played incredibly well. I was literally shocked how well it played and how great the pickups sounded! So I sold everything else and got a free guitar and about 40$ in my pocket. My intent is to sell the Slash Epi eventually. But the more I play it, the more it says “keep me”. It seriously plays almost as well as my ESP/LTD Eclipses 1000. Yeah, that’s what I said at first too. But no joke. This is an awesome little guitar. The really odd thing is that it sounds brutal in alternate tunings . It’s a short scale length and I put factory 10-46 strings on it. So you wouldn’t think it would sound worth a shit beyond drop d. But man, this little Epi is a beast. Meanwhile, all my 1000$ plus guitars are staring at me going “WTF!?”. Lol. I’m not going to go as far as saying this thing is as good as an eclipse. But for an entry level guitar, it sure as hell gives guitars costing 4-5 times as much a “run for their money”. Fuck, now I have to keep it. Plus, I got it for free. Anyone looking for a great starter guitar, look no further. This guitar is awesome. Don’t buy the package deal with the amp though. That thing blows. Just get the guitar by itself for 249$ or whatever. You can find a nice amp for 50-100$ on Craigslist or OfferUp or some other used market. By nice amp I mean decent for a beginner .But you can’t really lose with this guitar. It’s incredible for the price. And it has a built in tuner for you newbies. Highly recommend from a guy that’s been fucking with guitars for 30+ years.
well it's tiring that every person plays all afd stuff when demoing his gear we all know it's going to have a slash like sound bit some of us would like to hear how his guitars and pickups sound for non guns and roses stuff epiphone and gibson want to market this stuff to non slash fans as well so they need to show that his gear is versatile and great for all forms of music. how many butchered versions of night train to you really want to hear. I am not a salsh fan but I bought his pickups because of a demo video where the guy did not play any slash stuff. too many people think slashes sig gear is a gimmick and marketing fluff because there are not enough good demos to prove them wrong. his gear is great for all types of players. so we need more demos that don t have a guy playing all slash stuff .
I think all Epiphone instruments are great. I own an LP Jr, Slash AFD,LP Special 2 TV yellow, and a 56 Gold Top P90. I paid 89$ for the Junior. The guitar rips,so does the Slash AFD.
would it be worth it for an intermediate player and for the price? I've been playing for 6 years but I don't think I could afford a much more expensive guitar.
Dylan, I'm 53 and been playing guitar since I was 10. I've done everything from gigging to teaching. I own 2 Gibsons (ES LP & SG standard) AND 2 Epiphone LPs (1 is a Speciall II like the one above except wine red with no maple cap which plays great-no tuner, and the other is the Plus Top Pro). I'll be getting the Slash Epi with my loyalty points, soon. Advanced or beginner-you can't go wrong...
Im sorry but I don't have any camera equipment and no skills at editing and uploading :L But you can ask me anything you want to know of the guitar, i am no expert tho.
The Black Hokage lol okay. Is it good for the price? I mean, for like 300 more bucks i can get a higher level epiphone insted of a special ii which is widely concidered as a beginner guitar. Im more of an intermediate beginner, but not a beginner beginner.
If you ask me, then you should go for the epiphone les paul custom pro, Because special ii sounds really sharp sometimes, It actually hurts my ear when playing open g string with distortion :P
I picked up the Epi 56 P90 Goldtop from Musicians Friend. I signed up and they had a 15 per cent off code upon checkout. I think list price was $549. I got it for around $480 or so. Im really happy with it. I hope this answers your ?
I purchased this guitar after looking at a lot of reviews and doing a bunch of research, from what I could see it was a good guitar but after actually getting my hands on the guitar I was really disappointed. I originally thought that a setup at my local guitar shop would fix the issues with the guitar but I was disappointed to find out that there was issues with the way the bridge was seated and the tuning heads were as my guitar tech told me "the cheapest tuning heads you can find". I guess you get what you pay for but I though that Gibson /Epiphone had a good reputation and I hoped they would fix the issue but after dealing with Gibson tech support I was told that because the guitar was ordered on Musicians Supply which I guess resides in the states and I live in Canada that I would not receive a replacement guitar. In the end the guitar was disappointing and the support was brutal. If I could do this again I would spend the extra money and buy a real guitar instead of buying this guitar. It's a shame really because Slash attached his name to this guitar.
+dave lees I am guessing you can actually play the guitar quite well. I had the opposite experience with my purchase. Since my first guitar i bought about a month earlier on gumtree (craigslist/ebay) for AU$40. That cheap Strat copy would barely keep in tune at the end of 5 minutes practice! Anyway, I saw this guitar and it's many 'rave' reviews, so I took a chance as it was on a super sale AU$199 including shipping. All I can say, for an absolute noobie that could only just chord change from A E and D, this was great. Only now, 6 months later am I noticing a few strange areas, but higher up the fretboard. That said, it's still a zillion times better than my $40 strat, and I don't regret my purchase at all. It kept me playing because it sounded better than my alternative. Perhaps sell it to a noob, and spend the extra money like you say. I am looking forward to my next upgrade :)
Let me get this right. You have a guitar tech and you bought a guitar for $199.00? I don't have a guitar tech but I do have one of these guitars and it's absolutely brilliant for the money! It stays in tune, it sounds very decent on my Marshall and has a great action for the price. I would get another guitar tech if he can't fix the issues you seem to have. I guess there are good guitars and bad ones with any production line.
Hey, Brodo...I have an Epi Special II and the Epi Plus Top Pro. The Plus Top pro comes with Grover tuners which stay in tune much better that the tuners on the Special II.
Hi guys, I would consider myself as an intermediate player with a pricepool of about 300$ and I want to buy a Les Pau guitar smilar this one. Should I buy this guitar or is there a better option for around 300-400$? I`m a fan of slash but I don`t need the additional stuff besides the guitar. Pls help :D
I have a question. Is this just a regular spesial 2 epiphone that slash have added some other things to? Like the shadow tuner and better pickupps? And a better look?
Sort of, like you said he did add some things, but the tuners are also better too, so it's pretty much a beefed up special-II with an amazing price tag.

witch one i should get ? Les Paul Special II Slash "AFD" Pack 222 euro Les Paul Electric Guitar Player Pack 199 euro i have never played guitar before.

I'm just planning to buy a new guitar, like you. However, if you've never played guitar before, I'd definitely go for an acoustic one first. If you insist on choosing from the 2 above, I'd choose the 1st one: "Les Paul Special II Slash "AFD" Pack 222 euro"
LP 100. You'd be dishing out a bit more $, but it's worth it in the long run. Heck, if you have the money and you're a committed player, I'd even say to go with a Gibson. I have a few Epiphones and they're great, but my Gibson is at least 5 times better. Granted, it was 5 times more expensive but they're so worth it.
It sounds a little worse. but if you are a beginner you won't notice the difference. Its really easy to play, a friend of mine bought this for his starter and he loved it. It sounds kind of cheap to me, but it plays so easy that I stopped thinking about that and I couldn't stop playing for half an hour straight. Its a good guitar for its price. Its a Chinese guitar though, so don't expect much.
+MJ Alejo (mjmusicstrings) Slash's Epiphone Les Paul Special II Model has better tech(electronics), the pickups have been upgraded from the Normal Special II, it also comes with binding and an built in tuner :)
Ok, nice for some folks I guess... but a bolt on neck!!!! Sure they keep cost down that way, but also lose sales too. Don't care much for that on board tuner...I mean for someone who loves a real L.P. but can't afford one, I would just go with a VINTAGE V100 L.P. I am amazed how good they are built, the set up, the feel, the sound, and body is 2" thick, set neck in body, and both all mahogany, a heavy guitar too!! Not light at all!!! Stays in tune forever, hardware=Wilkinson, which by the way, sounds tops!! Even a Harley Benton L.P. has a set neck!!! This Epiphone body doesn't have a 2" body either, and I must say, the typical inlays on a neck of a Les Paul, and 2 tone, 2 volume knobs, and the switch selector in the correct place is what does it for me, just my opinion of course...
The machine heads on the AFD Guitar cost $5 for the 6 of them and they are absolute crap the rest of the guitar could rattle any $1200 guitar. The Epiphone Les Paul Junior is a fantastic guitar too except for the $5 tuners I don't know why they continue to fix these crappy tuners to there otherwise exceptional guitars. And it is not easy to purchase good quality replacements either without luthier/Guitar tech installing them and then a set up so add about another $160 plus to the cost of you AFD. Still I think mine is a great guitar the Les paul Junior is unreal and the sustain lasts forever. I love Epiphone why would you buy $4000 Gibson Les Pauls when you can get great guitars by Epiphone. I have a Epiphone Les Paul Standard and it plays very closely to my friends Gibson LP that he paid a fortune for. Let your ears do the buying not the brand names.
Back in the late 80's I went to a bar that was having a Halloween costume party and I went as Slash with my brothers epiphone and drunkenly fell into a table of people nearly slashing them to death with the tuning end! That's as close as I came to the big time .I won second place out of two contestants but would have won first if I had only bothered to make a taller top hat!The only one I could find was sort of stubby !
The song at 2:46 is the song of buyers remorse when you realize this is a little kids toy guitar and you should've just saved your self a little extra money and bought a Chibson slash afd Les Paul because it is closer to the real afd les Paul in looks, sound and that the real afd les Paul was also a fake
This is the biggest piece-of-crap ever made: bolt on neck, one volume and one tone knobs, the pickups switch is in the wrong place, there's no wood, just glue and sawdust....
