This was an unaltered factory amp that was trying to burn up its tubes. Let's get it fixed.

The only person that I have seen that still has not thrown those robo tuners in the trash as they just do not belong on a Les Paul. Enjoyed the video.

I actually have four self-tuning Gibson guitars. I read the instruction manual and I get along with the tuning system just fine so why not

@@DeadKoby They in fact do work just fine and I meant no disrespect. I just think that it was the wrong guitar to put them on and Gibson one hundred percent screwed over Tronical in the process when Gibson found out that no one wanted them on a Les Paul and they were very shortly discontinued by Gibson. Do not get me wrong as I love Gibson, but they have relied on the brand name more so than making high quality instruments for a long time now. I can get an Ibanez out of Japan that will destroy any Gibson and do it for less money as the Japanese still take pride in workmanship. How many young OR newer bands do you see today that use a Gibson may I ask? The answer is very little to none as these are (Old Folks) guitars that are far too expensive for what you get, and you can get better for far less. I hate saying this as I am 53yrs old, but the writing is on the wall as they have not been stable for a long time now and will even become much more of a problem as even the Indonesian made guitars are getting good for the fraction of the cost and the guitars out of South Korea are fantastic.

@@shane011471 Naa, it's cool. I befriended the local Gibson dealer, so the opportunities were there. I think the Tronical systems were great, but should have been an OPTION, rather than standard equipment. The independent shop owner did a good job on only putting quality instruments on the rack, and sending others back upon arrival. At present, I have all the guitars I need, and haven't been in a "buyers mode" in about 6-7 years now. I know there's a LOT of drama surrounding the Gibson brands... and I've just ignored it because I already have what I want, and won't be buying anything soon.

Often, Guitar amps break the rules shown on tube spec sheets. So it can be a puzzle.

So this amp was always on the borderline of red-plating then? Well that just sux! Bad design then. Sounded good after you fixed it up though! My 'Legacy' branded 'Valve Edition 15' amp is identical (except for the badging & labelling) to an Epiphone 'Valve Standard'. Apparently they're both made in the same Chinese factory! It had problems from new. Crackling noises, smells & hum! PT was red hot & 6.3V inline fuseholder melted. Built a regulated 6.3V DC 5A supply for the heaters using a separate mains transformer & ran the wiring direct to each heater instead of the AC running via the pcb. Swapped out all the 400V 'brown turd' caps for 600V Sprague 'orange drops'. Ran all signal & volume control wiring via earthed-at-one-end shielded cables, instead of around the world on the pcb. Increased 1st main filter cap value. Now it's quiet & clean! Prior to that -> it was rubbish! I was gonna re-badge it 'Neviphone' but someone's liable to take exception to that such that then I would be liable!

I don't know that all the amps were like this but I think the power transformer was a little bit hotter than they had anticipated and they never bothered to correct it

Just a thought. I am just barely in the video. How about dropping voltage coming out of transformer then you could up your bias resistor more to drop bias more.
@DeadKoby

That would have been the plan IF it was that far out of whack.

If it’s cathode bias. You should measure plate to cathode not plate to ground voltage

My meter device (That I design and build) Shows Plate-To-Cathode voltage on the upper meter. Sorry if you didn't catch that.

@@DeadKoby my apologies That said, it’s one of the coolest bias meters I’ve seen!
