What a perfectly delightful podcast! Thanks so much for it! I have machine knit several bodies for mainly Lopi style yoke sweaters. It's the only way I will knit a sweater nowadays. If I hadn't started machine knitting a few years ago, I would probably have stopped knitting sweaters.

Thank you both Ann and Hazel Tindall. I’m stunned! It seems people are used to not paying ‘a living wage‘. How may we encourage people to THINK about and put into place whole life costing? From the very beginning until the very end (including the cost of disposal which in synthetic materials is astronomical). Would including the number of person hours taken to make the item and the material costs help potential customers to understand the actual real life value of an item? Perhaps include the number of makkin hours only and ask each customer to use their own hourly rate to calculate a ‘real’ cost.😉 Thank you again. I have Hazel’s DVD’s, such a gift. I like the way Elizabeth and Hazel work together and I feel very privileged to have the visual learning aid they provide. I am short and had to laugh with Hazel as my preference is also for vertical pattern emphasis rather than horizontal.

Thank you for this lovely episode. I always love to listen to Hazel, even when she explains things I've heard before. Her sense of her audience and knowing that everyone doesn't know "all of the things" makes it sensible that she will often explain in simple terms about her experiences. I liked hearing your story at the end. I agree with your sentiment about the disappointment of creators not being able to get a fair price for their product. Good advice you gave about paying more than she asked for and encouraging her to make that a standard price.

What a wonderful episode! Thank you! And I so agree knitters don't get paid nearly enough for their work...I lost a commission recently because of sticker shock even though I gave an in-depth explanation of the cost of the wool, the hours it would take to design from scratch for a personal(not generic) fit and then to knit the complicated one of a kind Aran cardigan.

People just don't get how much time and skill goes into it!

I found this podcast fascinating to listen to (as I was knitting on a sock). The history of the Fair Isle (and Shetland) is what I am finding so fascinating, history has always been an interest so it is natural for me to be drawn to Ms. Tindall's story. Thank you for posting this one. I will definitely be checking out her website as well. Have a blessed day.

Thank you, Pat! You may want to find a copy of the book Knitting by the Fireside and on the Hillside. It goes into greater depth about the history of knitting on Shetland! Thanks for listening. :)

Another lovely interview. Such a cosy interview to knit some fair Isle gloves along to! (the other soundtrack where I am is rain ☔!)
