I agree with with this 100%, for sure if someone had a collapse as a newbie they'd be reluctant to go up again, so learning slowly and safely is for sure ethe way and no one can argue with that because safety is paramount! .................. Thanks for explaining this safety very well with the common statements that people always make, i have witnessed this a lot.. Stay Safe and Enjoy Everyone.

A low-B glider is (unaccelerated) the same forgiving than a A-glider. When you fly a A-glider you might think that you are safe for everything, but this is wrong. A low-B-glider lets you know that you should have care. When you did some hours of flying you will be happy about the better gliding and the better way against wind when you accelerate the wing. And the low-B mostly is better reacting and has a better handling than the A. When I started, I got a Low-B (that time DHV1-2) from my teacher. I tried some A-gliders, but was never happy with the slow reaction from them. I felt safer under my low-B. So I think that it depends on how the new pilot is under the glider. I think it is better to let decide your own teacher which glider he will give you.
@Bomb-Blast1
@Bomb-Blast1 Месяц назад
Totally wrong! Well if gliders are tested to standards then A is always safer and will make sure you put the correct inputs in otherwise the glider wont allow so itt stops you getting into bad habits.

Excelent points Marco! I have been flying a Bolero for my first 60 yours. Probably the best thing that I have done after training. Had a wing that I was on the middle of the weight range and took a few collapses with it. Always a non issue with they recovering with no pilot input. After changing for a smaller wing that I'm close to to top of the weight range never had another one. With about 40 hours did a flight in a B and realized it is easier for me to move around in the Bolero than the Epsilon, simply because I'm more comfortable in it. With the A wing I am flying slower than other pilots, but going almost as fare as them. The extra safety was a good trade for the performance I would have with a B as my first wing.

Confidence in your equipment is by far the most important thing! Remember we do this for fun. For me it was right to go for a Epsilon 7 (low B) as first wing. I got the wow, this wing is so awesome, it does what I tell it to do! feeling after learning on an Element. Then I got the same feeling again with a C wing after that.

Marko is teaching students in Valle de Bravo known for strong thermals. In northern Europe where the wind is strong and thermals a lot weaker, it makes more sense to move up to faster wings earlier.
@flumenparagliding7293
@flumenparagliding7293 4 года назад
Why? We do also have strong winds here. Unless flying on speed bar, no gain. If it is a site where beginners learn to use speed bar very early and know consequences could work but mostly is not like that.

Thanks for great video. I have done P3 with 15+ hours and definitely going to buy EN-A after watching your video. But need your advice, manufacturer now a days market few EN A gliders as high performance gliders. e.g. Supair Birdy they call it as A+ (found few review, test videos) not sure if we should include that as an option considering safety & learning ?

Thanks for yet another great and important video on safety. I'm hoping to get started with paragliding in the autumn of '21, and I don't understand why anybody would want to start on anything but an A-wing (fortunately this also what's being recommended by the Danish instructors, so no chance of going straight to Bs). Obviously it's a personal choice but I'd never risk even the slighest injury simply from stepping up and "not being the one flying an A-wing"; couldn't care less and I actually imagine staying on an A-wing for many years.

@gerrit555

You should try by yourself and ask your teacher for that. Noone can say which glider is the best for you, if he does not see and know how you fly and react. And so it could be a A or a low-B too...

You asked me a question why am I in training to be an epsilon 9 payload? It took all the money my mom left me to buy the equipment and the training. I'm only going to learn to fly one way it's going to be an epsilon 9 I'm flying the big boy and I'm flying heavy. I'm not a gangster but I play one in a small town. I think I can fly around for free or almost free. I'm going to have a lot of flashing blinking lights on my harness and a horn of some sort. I'm going to fly up to cloud base if I can and throw out a box of cornstarch to make it rain. I'm going to honk at people and way the people and come in for a landing. I requested that the school train me on the epsilon 9 only. There's a very clever engineer over there and he build that Wing and he said that if I would just put my hands up no matter what turbulence I hit he he was my best chance no matter what turbulence I hit that I could fly on home. However active flying is recommended. The guy I bought it from flew it for me and he is the instructor. I'm going to strive to be a weight shift hands up payload for a long time. I'm a leprechaun and I'm betting the whole leprechaun and the pot of gold on this one. I'm on the heavy end of the big wing weight range. . I have to accept my size and I got lucky to buy a wing that would fly like the devil and it's still got a 5.25 aspect ratio. I went to 7 years of electrical engineering. I'm bored and I want to analyze all of these horrible accidents . I'm bored I'm poor I got a lot of spare time and I need to find a few hundred launch zones I could take off from on private property where everybody loves me for flying through the air honking a horn with flashing lights so they can look for me when there's trouble all nine thousand people in the county. I don't know if it was a wise choice or not and it might be the end of me someday but it was a choice I made with the money I had and I'm going to finish the school and get my pilot's license and I'm going to fly on weight shift as much as I can and I'm just going to cry everytime I see somebody using the brakes too much and hitting the ground or flying close to the ground intentionally. I will have Lee leave proximity flying to anybody that can sit on a power pole and see a mouse in a field and point him out to me. There's no one where I fly after I leave the school so I don't have to learn to turn like all the normal people

Some wings on the 30 or so points that are graded may only have 1 rated B. So 29/1 ratio... for me i have been always on A rated wings. Due to risk reward. If going for hundreds of hours every year then sure go for a b rated wing... for me i cannot ever see me on a high b or a c ever...
@draked5968
@draked5968 4 года назад
There is safety in performance! When you fuck up, get too low over unlandable terrain and the wind is strong, then you would like higher top speed and better glide ratio! If you dont fly XC then it's ofc a mute point. Also, counting A's and B's on test report is not helpful at all. Safety is very complicated and if you rely on the wing, then please dont fly. You and your skill is a 100 times more important than if you fly an A or a B wing!
@flumenparagliding7293
@flumenparagliding7293 4 года назад
I am still not convinced. Safety in performance can be achieve only when you know how to take the advantage. As a beginner you don't. Even if the beginner uses speed bar, there is still a lot of other consequences which will reduce the safety. There is no lack of performance on an EN-A glider for the condition that the beginner and novice pilot should fly in.

Well i disagree with your point on buying an A wing as the first glider, i understand it will be a smart choice if you dont go flying a lot or are scared easily in flight, however if this is not the case and if the person is a quick learner i do think it is possible to go straight for a B-wing after a couple of flights, started flying this summer the second week i went flying was on a low B-wing and i actually felt a lot more comfortable flying on it, yes the pitch control took me 3 flights to get the brake input right but that is mostly because i never really properly learned it on the A-wing. when flying into a thermal on the a-wing i just had to touch brakes and i couldnt even feel the pitch anymore (because the wing just damped it) on the b-wing i could feel i didnt apply the correct amount of brake and i could see i wasnt braking left and right evenly. Well i do understand that there is a bigger learning curve if you go for a B wing pretty fast but i disagree on the point of it beeing the wrong choice for every pilot. I just bought my first wing and this is a high B wing (i asked my instructor if this is a good choice for me and he assured me that i should be able to handle it) I will be flying a lot next year and i do understand i will need to learn how to master this wing but the learning curve does not scaremealso i have booked my first SIV after next summer and i am looking forward to it
