Very refreshing to hear pro surfers openly discuss the realities of the industry, rather than perpetuating the misconception that their lives are always perfect, filled with endless travel and perfect waves, all while getting paid for it. Many hold this idealized view, so it's great you two are shedding light on the unspoken!

Very interesting perspective on the surf industry, the money left pro surfing when the companies realised they could get free targeted and more effective advertising on social media (by everyday surfers, photogs etc wanting likes and fame and promoting brands stuff for free in the hope of getting discovered) and that they didn't need to pay pro surfers (unless your JJF or Dane whos name sells stuff) so they stopped spending on wages (along with magazine ads and surf films). The money is still there but the companies are keeping it all for themselves and preying on the next hopeful star for free targeted advertising.
