Seems to me a door or window would frame out or "buck" might not be a good place for a wall seam...not real sure bout the technology...but if it were my 2 story home I'd want the window bucked in at the factory for rigidity? Any thoughts?

"The structural characteristics of SIPs are similar to that of a steel I-beam. The OSB facers act as the flange of the I-beam, while the rigid foam core provides the web. This design gives SIPs an advantage when handling in-plane compressive loads. SIPs are used for high wind designs in excess of 180 mph. The load-bearing area of SIPs is equivalent to building with 2x10 framing at 16 inches on center." Matt Risinger talks to this same guy in a more recent video 23/24 and they said the same thing. I believe it's a 6" SIPs panel that they use in that example vs a standard 16 OC 2x10 stick frame. Homes built using SIPs in the 30s are still standing.

Paul, this is your opinion and perhaps based upon not fully understanding sealant chemistry. We supply SIP-seal mastic to a very large percentage of the SIP panel manufacturers in North America as well as overseas. Our product is used by the SIP School in their instruction and all of the SIP manufacturers using our product are members of SIPA, the Structural Insulated Panel Association. This formula does not dry out or harden and is very effective at sealing any high performance building envelope. Installers of SIPs using our product consistently achieve blower door tests well below the passive house standard on a regular basis. Perhaps you have another method that works well and if so would like to share it? If not please refrain from being critical of a product or method you do not understand. Extreme Panel Technologies, who produced this series, is among the most reputable and successful SIP manufacturers in the world.

In previous videos the sealant was called glue, is it glue in all applications or is it mastic, or a combination?

Use of mastic or caulking is NOT recommended with SIPs. This is bizarre! As shown, the mastic tends to fall away and does very little to seal the window framing lumber (bucking). Plus mastic will over time dry up and crack. We do a far superior treatment of this that is faster and cheaper. Mastic is also unnecessary since you will be using mechanical fastening of the 2X lumber in the SIP. Furthermore mastic only provides a small area of contact and seal against air infiltration, so as you saw, parts of the mastic fell away and is thus not doing any good except globbing all over the floor and needs to be scraped up. This kind of misinformation does not help the SIPs industry or trades to quickly, properly and economically install SIPs.
