Thank you Stephanie for another wonderful bright, beautiful and interesting episode! I always enjoy your beautiful makes and your thoughts on colours. I wait with bated breath for your next half and half, and how you will name it and think of it as you make it - the Love Letter in all its forms is just perfect! Always enjoy your book recommendations - more for my list! Thanks always, Ros X
Dearest Stephanie - thank you for another lovely podcast episode. I so love the moments I am able to spend with you virtually! 🥰 I absolutely love the way your Sunkissed Stripes turned out and as you know, I'm now contemplating a summer shawl of my own. You half and halfs are always so inspiring and I truly enjoyed listening to you describe the many types of love. Today I'm working on my Heirloom Quilt Cardigan which is knit one square at a time, so you will be forever a part of the cardigan and I will be able to point precisely to your square. Talk soon! Mia ❤
LOVED your mending story!!! Made me giggle cuz I too have done the same on a project. Your mending was a great fix!!!! Think of it as a beautiful flower!!!🌼🌼🌼 Which actually blends well with the theme of your fabulous bag!!!! I really enjoy your podcasts!! So fun!
Great episode. I was so inspired by all your knits. Your color choices are so good. The Coloring Book Raglan is really pretty. I really like how you do the cuff of your socks. I enjoyed when you talked about your Love Letter Wrap, it was so lovely. Your flowers are gorgeous. Take care and I look forward to seeing you next time.
Thank you for a great episode Stephanie. It really spoke to me. I also like having a long-term project that is with me through different seasons of life. And your flowers reminded me how uplifting they can be, its inspired me to arrange a bouquet subscription for my husband for our 30th wedding anniversary. We're about to start a new season of life- empty nesters, which is very bittersweet.
Thank you so much for spending some time here Jacquelyn! What a lovely wedding anniversary gift that both of you can enjoy. Congrats on this new season in life!! So many of our life milestones are bittersweet aren't they??
As I mentioned on your IG account I love how your socks turned out. The blue really highlights the colourful stripes! And all through the podcast I kept looking at the t-shirt. So clever! I love it! Thanks again for a great podcast Stephanie!
I'm so glad you liked the book Stephanie! This is Donna in Mills River, NC. Gorgeous knitting, I love the striped sweater in pale stripes, it's gorgeous!!! I finished my Tolsta Tee, it's drying now, it fits me, which is a first for something I've knit. I think I finally figured out what to do to actually like a garment that I knit. I"m making some socks right now with Cascade Yarns Whirligig #3 - it's not the greatest yarn for socks because the colorbands are so big, there aren't stripes so much as blocks. So I'm cutting the yarn and switching colors when I want. I think they'll be fun and whimsical.
Thank you so much Donna for the book recommendation!! I'm so glad you are finally getting a sweater that fits the way you want it to. Happy knitting!❤️
Awesome projects Stephanie. I really love the blanket you are making and you are tempting me to cast on another half & half with the various colors as you have done. Thanks so much for sharing with us. I have the same t-shirt you are wearing!
Another wonderful episode Stephanie. I’m coveting those gorgeous Dahlias ! So beautiful. Next year being added to my little gardens. I’ll have to pull the bulbs in the Fall for storage. Too cold here to leave in. Happy Knitting! Thanks for taking the time to share. ❤️
Thank you so much Roxanne!! We're supposed to dig ours up for the winter but we haven't had great success that way (some survive, some don't) so we might try leaving them in this year and covering the ground where the tubers are??? Not sure yet....
Hi Stephanie! Wonderful episode as always. I'm really in love with your Sunkissed Stripes shawl! The color choices plus the lovely drape just makes it look like a lovely wardrobe staple for years to come. I think I'm going to have to make a half and half wrap at some point because yours have been so lovely to follow along and watch. I have some pink pop linen quill in my stash but I'm still trying to decide what color to pair it with! I have Lychee Pink but I feel like Peony Pink might be a better fit. Your coloring book raglan is also just so stunning. Love the low contrast stripes! I am amazed at how prolific you are with your knits, it inspires me constantly. Looking forward to the peachy flax for your 10yo soon!
Hi Shreya!! Thank you so much!!! Pink Pop + Peony Pink is a GREAT combo. You get both the soft and the bright and they play well together. The plan is to get the Coloring Book Raglan and the Ripple Cami finished in the next week and then concentrate more on my daughter's Flax. We'll see how it goes lol. Take care!
Just started watching..❤ your openings are always so bright and cheery! And right now in my life, this one is bringing healing to my soul❤ Gonna knit on my green dk rib socks, ( it's been a week) and drink from your podcast. I know it's a good one, as usual Stephanie 🪷
I love those stripes and love your feelings about the colors 😊 I also love Linen Quill and can’t believe how expensive it’s gotten, I went on the way back machine to just see if I was remembering wrong, but it used to cost what you can get it on sale for now 😮 that log cabin blanket is gorgeous as well and makes me want to dive into my scraps pronto!
I am really enjoying your videos! I just discovered you as I was looking at Sheep Camp sweaters and stumbled upon your beautiful sweaters! I’m enjoying watching all of your back episodes and I am super inspired to knit all the things!
Love the dahlias! I planted my first one just this year, and i finally have my first bloom! It's so beautiful....I'll definitely plant more next year. I'm in Southern Ontario, so I'll have to investigate how to save it over winter
Thank you!! We are advised to dig ours up too - it's the only flower in our garden that we go through that fuss for. Although I have to say they still don't have a great success rate year to year that way so we're thinking of leaving in the ground this year and maybe covering up the the ground where the tubers are - TO BE DETERMINED!!
Love the flowers and veg and pottery! I grew up (have I, tho? haha) in Northern Minnesota and learned to pronounce it "Loo-pin" (or loop - in). That's probably what I hear most. I am working on my first test knit for Tif, also a shawl with texture and color, but DK weight and I love it--the interest is just enough (or, a good balance) especially after a summer home with the teens. Love the bag story (not for your panic) but that I can commiserate! Love the story of the Love Letters.
Hi Jessica!! I've been pronouncing it "loo-pine" my whole life and now am questioning it.... I feel like that dramatic spaghetti sauce commercial where the woman is like "what other faux decisions have I made in my life....." lol Thanks for chiming in!! Take care❤️
Really love your project bag for the Love Letters hhtriangle wrap. Just thinking about your visible mending I would simply add a pink heart 🩷 on top of it (like appliqué) to correspond with the project inside 🤩
So cool! A quick Google tells me she doesn't have a stand-alone website but she is on Facebook as Genevieve Loso Pottery (I don't use Facebook so I can't verify but that's what my Google search came up with!).
So many fun projects! I really love the low contrast stripes on your coloring book raglan. I'm from the Northeast and we pronounce lupine as 'loo-pin'.
Thanks for the book recommendations! I’m always looking for my next book😉 Your projects are beautiful; I’m planning to make a couple of kids sized sweaters this fall; I really like the fold over neck. Your latest half & half wrap is beautiful; I really like the dark blue. I knit a Ranunculus out of the worsted weight Linen Quill this spring, and I’m really looking forward to wearing it this fall. Unfortunately, when I looked at Purl SoHo’s website this past weekend, it doesn’t look like the carry it anymore ☹️ Living in Minnesota, I don’t knit many fingering weight sweaters. Thanks again for your podcast!
Hi Karyn!! I was soooooo sad that Linen Quill Worsted was discontinued. There was a big sale for all the yarns they were discontinuing and I had three sweater quantities of Linen Quill Worsted in my cart and then I didn't check out for whatever reason. Oops. Sigh. I have plans for a worsted weight sweater by Tif Neilan that I'm going to hold Linen Quill (fingering weight) double though for the 18sts/4" gauge and I think it's going to be fabulous!! More details to come once I get started on it. Thank you so much for tuning in and adding to the conversation! Take care❤️
Those Zinnias! Those Dahlias! Such show-offs! I too find random-ness from book to book. A place, street name, object, (or knitting-as your example)… I find it fun! I get excited about this, but only I can enjoy this pure randomness, sigh. Your pieces are so lovely, the colors … Perfect…! If you’re so inclined, embroider a few petals to the “mending”, matchy matchy flowers to the print fabric… but you just might be DONE with it !! I can totally relate to freaking out about a “thing”. Setting aside/resting for a bit always helps. Usually. Mostly. You’re too funny! Thanks for sharing, inspiring, and making me chuckle!
Aren't the blooms AMAZING?!!?? So fun to find "common threads" and "coincidences" throughout various reads. I considered adding petals or rays but currently I think for both the bag and my benefit, that I should stop messing with that part ..for now....!! Take care!
Your dahlias are amazing. I enjoy seeing your flower and your food harvests. I'm impressed by your husband's ceramic skills. I like your new shawl. I'm a fan of slipped stitches. Added the pattern to my faves and am dreaming of what yarns I can use for it. (My Bennett Sister Shawl is doggin me rn.) Hey so you did some visible mending; that's all the rage now for holes in pants or whatever. If you get tired of it you can always sew a patch over that area? On that green linen pants that are part of the Saguaro Set, I had accidentally made a hole near the waistline I think with my serger; the fabric had gotten caught and thus created a hole. I used extra fabric to create a tab shaped piece and then sewed a button on top. So now that area or decoration looks intentional. May I ask which bug spray you use? We are going "hiking"/trail walking in Muir Woods Labor Day weekend; I'm excited as I want to see the redwoods. I don't remember if I've ever visited there; maybe...my mama would know. I don't know if I need bug spray to wear there, but good to be prepared just in case.
I love catching up with you! All of your makes are so inspiring and I can't wait to see the finished camisole. Love letters is looking incredible! I have three book recommendations for you; The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern, The Stories Life of A.J.Fikry by Gabrielle Zevin and The Bookseller by Cynthia Swanson.
Always so nice to catch up with you!! Lovely projects!! I would be very interested in tips to read while knitting, I am having trouble keeping the (paper) book open while my hands are knitting :D but I would love to learn how to do it!!
Thank you so much! I find it easier with hardcover books to stay open than paperbacks. I'll use a hair claw clip to keep the page open and the book is usually propped up. Hope that helps!
Oh Stephanie, I always love seeing your half and halfs! So inspiring! Also, I just finished reading Remarkably Bright Creatures and really enjoyed it too! Thanks for a lovely podcast!
I have revitalized several garments using visible mending. And, much to my surprise received compliments on the items every time they were worn. I referenced the book Mending Matters and then purchased several others. It is so gratifying to see the new yarn actually create a focal point. Living in Texas, jeans are a constant and the mending just enhanced the look.
I’ve been making the ripple camisole in July’s Lupine colorway. But seeing yours in August’s colorway is making want to make another Ripple. So pretty!
How lovely!!! I'm thinking after this one, maybe I'll look at any of the Bear Paw Sock skeins I have from previous Sock Squad months to cast another one on....
Love your podcast. Very informative and inspiring. I have a question about the sleeves on your sweater wip. How do you knit your sleeves , magic loop, double points, etc.?
Thank you so much!! Currently the sleeve is on a short circular. The short tip interchangeable needles (Knit Picks) are on a short cord (not sure exactly how long it comes out to be, maybe 12-14"?) and then when I get down to the cuffs I switch to magic loop since it's a smaller circumference. The sleeves on this sweater are bigger so I can do that, otherwise I like to use my blue Chiaogoo short needle set that's US4-8 (but for needles outside of that range I end up doing magic loop on 32" or 40" cables depending on what I have available).
Beautiful knitting, as ever! I loved Remarkably Bright Creatures - so beautifully written. Have you read Yellowface by R. F. Kuang yet? It’s satire and rather biting - but very timely.
Love all your wrap projects. Starting a striped garter stitch blanket and plan to slip two stitches at the selvedge. How do you deal with joining in a new color and still keep the slipped stitch selvedge intact? I’m stuck…any tips greatly appreciated.
Thank you! I change my color where I do the double stitch for the German short row so it actually doesn't affect the slipped stitch edge. I Google'd "how to change colors on a garter blanket with a slipped stitch edge" and a several videos came up, maybe try that and see if something matches up with what you're working on?
Hi, I enjoy your podcast very much. Your projects are very inspirering. 🤩please can you tell me about the blanket, did you pick up 3 Stiches for 4 or….? For the side panell….it Looks so perfect.
Thank you for your answer but I mean how many stiches did you pick up for the vertical stripes?? The video from purl soho says 4 rows mane 3 stiches or three rows make 2 stiches. My stripes got a little bit like ruffles 🤩🤣
@sabinefrei3834 That is what I did for my vertical stripes. I did 10sts/stripe and each stripe was 20rows so that would be a 1:2. Between each garter wiggle I picked up that "bar" of yarn. My numbers do not follow Purl Soho's pattern. I am using a different yarn weight, different needle size, and different stitch counts so I'm not sure how my ratio would transfer to other gauges, etc.
Hi Stephanie! I always enjoy your podcast. So very inspirational. I have a none knitting question Q: do you use any sweetener in you coffees and teas? If so what do you use?
