Steve catches up with Ireland's Bambie Thug as they prepare to bring their witchy brand of goth pop to Malmö.
They chat about their pride at representing their country, their hatred of tap dance and how they brought some Mean Girls inspiration to the video for Doomsday Blue.

I can't vote in the first semi-final but this song is so good so I hope it makes it through. I mean I liked this song on first listen because it was different but it wasn't initially my favourite song, but then it just got stuck in my head and has been playing in my head on repeat and I just love it so much, I think it is my favourite Eurovision 2024 song at the moment.

I’m really glad my country is taking a risk this time after years of struggling. 🇮🇪👍 If this masterpiece doesn’t get us into the grand final then I guess they’d *”rather have the star than the moon”.* ⭐️ > 🌙 Edit: I actually met Bambie at a Eurovision after party in Dublin the night they won the national selection on the Late Late Show (Eurosong). Bambie Thug might have got some inspiration from the 60s and 70s. Think Yoko Ono and Lene Lovich. Bambie Thug sound as if they did even if they aren't really old enough to have.

I love Bambie, and normally I vote by text for the GF, but this video is the last thing I'm going to be involved with. I am not watching the eurovision or spending my money on voting this year due to the decision to let October Rain remain as a song. The slight word changes don't do enough to make it an unpolitical song. I have unsubscribed from everything.

Is this being addressed? Seems contradictory to your diversity statement. Thug: Although this word originated in India and meant “ruffian” or “troublemaker,” it’s now used primarily in a negative context by white people to label younger black people, particularly men, as violent, irrational, untrustworthy, or gang members. The label is often applied based on how the person dresses, looks, or speaks, rather than by their actions.
