I wish this was more mainstream, so many of us are highly sensitive and we hate ourselves for it. We could be using it to our advantage instead we punish ourselves and our children for the sensitivity we were punished for as children. I grew up feeling so misunderstood, as an adult I have a hard time making decisions and I put everyone else's feelings before my own. I'm the crazy person in the family because I see things and feel things no one else does. I'm an empath HSP and INFP personality.. I grew up loving your music Alanis and I find it really awesome and funny that your an HSP too.

Rome was not built in one day. Abolishing such mighty beastly ignorance being part of the human race is not an easy task, opening so many arrogant stubborn close minded minds about highly sensitiveness is not easy if not impossible, but you have two noble heroines, Dr, Elaine Aron and the talented beautiful Alanis Morissette. We wish your family and you the best, and look at your situation the positive part, today, you have access to such useful knowledge and wisdom that can help you, past generations didn't what you have access today. Past generations only had ignorance.

I was so excited looking forward to listening to hear an interview with someone that acknowledges to being a HSP. Unfortunately I’m 20 min into this and I have yet to hear Elaine speak for more then 20 seconds before Alanis interrupts. I think I’m so “sensitive” to this since I see and hear this in myself. Unfortunately this is not a positive trait to try and listen to as a third party. I’m still conditioning myself to hold back when in a conversation with someone, because it is very disruptive. I was literally trying to find a RU-vid video that best described an HSP to share with some people close to me to understand me better. I know I cannot use this as it will only negate my purpose to get especially “non sensitive” analytical people I know to take information about HSP’s seriously.

22 minutes in and I couldn’t continue :( the worst is she acknowledges it and continues to interrupt excitedly. Also, c’mon, I hate when I get a sense that those who identify as HSP generalize certain resists of themselves as “everyone” or I just can’t help sensing that they’re “too proud of it”. I hate that!

Lol....typical with us extroverted hsp’s - being overwhelmed by the sensory impression of discussing a topic in which we recognize ourselves in what we hear and relate to. Sometimes I get so extremely excited in discussions which I find interesting and know the topic of, I have to talk to myself in my head to calm myself down while the other person’s talking. 😂☺️

When we watched the documentary,” Sensitive: The Untold Story” featuring Dr. Elaine Aron and Alanis Morissette, we became aware of Highly Sensitive people. Before the documentary, we were ignorant about highly sensitiveness. In our view, Dr. Elaine Aron is a noble true heroine because she is bravely standing up, fighting, and helping win against humanity’s mighty beastly ignorance. Because of Dr. Elaine Aron, highly sensitive people of today have access to specific useful books, they have access to specific essential knowledge to help them understand about the highly sensitive human part of them. Because of Dr. Elaine Aron, highly sensitive people have such mighty vital wisdom to help them live much better lives without such irritating painful frustrations ruining their days, above all, without that frightening ugly feeling not knowing what is happening to them, sadly, influencing in some, a convincing doubt in them of not being human beings. Because of Dr. Elaine Aron, not only highly sensitive people benefit from her wisdom, but also, their loved ones learn how to live with them, how to treat them, they learn about their incredible intense deeper detail human perception/ability. Also, we admire another noble heroine, the talented beautiful Alanis Morissette, who is standing up, fighting, and helping win against humanity’s ignorance, too. They both are abolishing the ignorance about Highly Sensitive People.

I had to really focus in on listening (which gave me more limited ability to more deeply process the information) because of the speed of trajectory of the conversation, which felt Ike a game of ping pong. But, I get it. That’s how I converse, too, when I’m highly engaged. The amount, quickness, and frequency of your reactivity to each bit of information Elaine would share was overwhelming my depth of processing. :D If it we’re more interview style (more pause and reflect, slower paced), it would be easier to process and sink into, as an outside listener of the conversation (versus an active, engaged participant of it). Great content nonetheless. Thanks so much for sharing this conversation.

I recently was scrolling and come upon this channel just within the last day or so. That being said right this moment is the one that I chose to click on. Due to the other recent discovery of your guests oddly enough. So I thought why not,? I'm 47 years old, I watched you on you can't do that on television lmfao, as well as I felt your music. Soul resonating is truly an understatement to say the least. As a youngster, I was continuously being reminded of"YOUR TOO SENSITIVE NADIA"... Needless to say after this being something continuously I was reminded of it also was reminding me of what I wasn't enough for others as they were okay with me being me but on their own terms. Of course thinking of it in those terms isn't something I thought of often in that childs eyes (eyes , meaning feelings/feelers/awareness etc.) To clarify I find that words that the speaking of them and of course it's an extension of ourselves and the foreman which we express it, as a common theme to which in a nutshell it's all about the in languages in which we speak that truly are a matter of finding the bridge to connect where the gaps are and or you could call it the connection gets or the expression or the language gets Lost in translation somewhere in the midst and then of course the entire layout of the particulars which just exist as we've known and yet still unknown as well and then eventually it all comes to meet. Periodically just like they say all has lead to the same place it all ends up at this connection point which that would explain the meeting at the same place part of that saying of those words of what in fact the meaning and that it can be simply as is eventually and then finding the residents with what that meet point brings and allows that release of which so almost you can feel a proverbial psi. I'm not sure if I spelled that correctly but hey I'm not here for a spelling bee LOL nor am I for being critiqued on my grammar, LOL however this is a common theme personally so before going any further this is my heads up foranyone taking the time to read this comment I use talk type mode or whatever to be entering on my phone as opposed to typing on the keyboard, for several reasons which needless to say are unnecessary to elaborate on due to it's not the need for others agreement to list them or my own to convince or help convince ends up being the case I've found and continue to find when I have lost that particular grasp and awareness. So if in fact when reading what I'm expressing due to the fact of limited punctuation use for example due to it being a conversation because of the talk type way I'm entering it in on my device that I'm expressing myself from as if talking to somebody right in the same room with me. Which using punctuation does not exist while that form of communication takes place up close and in that vicinity of being in the same room with whom I'm communicating and connecting with. So that being said maybe one day I will no longer feel that need to have this explanation along with having to feel like I have to explain why I am in the first place. What else am I if not allowed to be myself? And, the blessing disguised amongst the resistance there where eventually all those pads previously lead back to meet once again and then I can release because it all has its completeness at that moment in time of past present future and really words cannot really truly describe exactly the feel of it yet as we know words are like props like the same way that I am with directions and the use of what I call landmarks that would stand out to me and what language in which I am most capable of grasping not resisting the other however it's just allowing it to be and if there is that point where there is a Lost in translation possibility the awareness of it and the ability to eventually somehow come to not have to be carried away and how it feels like being rejected when somebody is forcibly aggressively sarcastically just blatantly or even in a manipulative definitely not limited to being a positive or negative form of any other just the awareness of them all and of myself through it and being able to be reminded. Periodically as such comes with all that I have experienced and continue to and it's continuously . if in fact you're still reading this perhaps one day I will remember to begin with a smaller summary of of which I'm not sure that's possible lol , however if one struggles due to lack of punctuation when reading something that I've written it does help to read it out loud, due to well my own truth and I have had enough response to what I have written and posted and how I express myself either I'm rambling making absolute no sense whatsoever which I laugh as I say that just because that's just so intricate and meanings of epic proportions just continuously prove over and over through living that it is always part of the point but it's not the only version of it and it isn't and it is until it's not yet it does not eliminate its existence from its part and the formula and the existence of all and without even a molecule no matter if it's defined as good evil right wrong bad correct or what have you these things cause limits and they do exist but yet not so suffocatingly so that there is nothing besides that which I believe is how we're working it out collectively with existence of all that is not at all leaving any known and unknown possibilities of whichever without any bit of it it would not be as is this very moment so finding the gratitude for what a blessing in disguise is comes through that and knowing that gratitude is truly something that can be felt and that there is a difference between a word and its existence and the meanings exist with through avenues in which are more natural than not even if it seems to be abnormal.

I didn't really know who Alanis Morisette was before the interview funnily enough. I grew up in the 2000s and listened to later stuff, but I'm a new fan. I do hope she's able to bring more light to this topic in the media with her celeb status. As more of an anxious type HSP, I am inspired by those managed to shoot to stardom while having HSP traits. I go through high and low periods and could have avoided certain self loathing had I known what this was at an earlier age.

NOTES TO SELF D - Depth of Processing @12:25... thinking more thoroughly (?ruminating?) O - Overstimulation @15:45 ... b/c you are processing things so deeply; can lead to overwhelm & need for downtime to recover (learning self care is very important... only you know when you've had enough) E - Empathy & Emotional Responsiveness (we cry easily) @19:45... when you're over-aroused, you can't think as clearly (can't think of anything to say; this is NOT shyness) S - Sensitivity/atunement to Subtleties @24:25 ... @44:39 Sensitivity to Subtle Stimuli - involves picking up unconscious cues @27:48 re: the workings of the Amygdala in an HSP vs the other 80% of non-HSP people @35:15 Shyness = fear of social judgement Emotional Regulation @50:38 = having the right feeling, at the right time, in the right amount @41:57 In business or other relationships, you have to look at the bottom line & be able to articulate what the other person stands to gain from the existence of your HSPersonality [Riiiiiiiight! Sure, that's where it always breaks down. :( Most of society doesn't want to deal with that.] @55:30 HSP is a survival strategy adopted by the minority in all species studied, to look before you leap, to do it once & do it right, to really pause to check; it is not just about escaping from threats... it means taking advantage of something that others may not see & finding a better way to do it that others might do it. @59:00 re: Boredom... inner sensation seeking - HSPs get bored with boring conversations @1:09:00 - [9.2.2021]

@fractal97
@fractal97 5 лет назад
@@gwenbardon6025 I am an HSP as well and I have a tendency to do that in an informal conversation. The wiring of our nervous system is different than 80% of population so we tend to process deeply what the interlocutor is giving us and this deep processing, which is the key trait of HSP, is pushing us to jump into the thoughts of the other person to immediately clarify all the subtleties that we see in the topic, but here we have a celebrity. Here we have the discoverer of HSP itself and I would be all ears asking questions only to connect Elain's thoughts and make them flowing. However, the interviewer was mostly listening to herself rather than Elaine which was unfortunate. I persevered until the end of the interview, but it was really painful.

I am trying to listen to the rest of this interview. It’s is somewhat.....let’s be honest as you said painful and frustrating to listen to. I see this trait in such a negative light and of course it does not help that it now highlights this trait in myself. I only recently came across HSPs and looking for resources to share. It was so frustrating when Elaine was trying to explain how undervalued an HSP can be made to feel, especially growing up and Alanis interrupted as she had been doing since the beginning. I’m only at the 39min mark and can’t continue. I have such low self esteem and worthiness as it is and I’m not sure how helpful or hindering it is listening to this any longer. My first attempt only made it to just under 20min. Is it because I’m an HSP, that I’m so determined to try and listen to this till the end? Or am I just a gluten for punishment. (Sorry Alanis, I really am commenting more so on my own issues of being caught interrupting within my own conversations when I’m excited or feel so determined to get my points across, or feel I’m trying to educate someone about something I think is so passionately important and/or relevant to me.)

Definitely resonate with the ESP aspect, (after all, if it’s broken down literally, how can anyone deny the connection - “extra” “sensory” “perception”). I had no conscious effort in this, but I’ve opened up more to being able to literally channel physical energy, namely through Kundalini. I literally feel like a powerful wizard playing with and manipulating energy, like it’s a physical/ tangible force. I’m able to tap into the collective energetic field where my energy center opens up, and the Kundalini flows in a very physically felt and visually observable way, where it can channel into a rapid “sign language” through my hands that produces fluid movements throughout my entire body. It also produces sounds from my mouth, very characteristic of the serpent energy. I’ve experienced literally tapping into the entire collective (don’t know how to describe, but I just very overwhelmingly felt it, and with a clearsentience, just absolutely knew it) and sending some kind of multilayered transmissions from beyond this visually perceivable reality, to the entire collective through this sign language that fully embodied, or entered (channeled though) my body. It’s not a possession of the body...I just infuse with it, and am fully conscious and fully present when it comes through. And it’s fully rooted in the heart, empathy, and love, and is the most benevolent and warrior/ powerful energy all at once. I’ve actually fairly recently recorded (not the best example, but good enough for now) an example of this and put it on my page for reference. I experience the ESP aspects in a few other ways as well through color perception and other ways, and I know I suppress a lot as well. When I was a child experiencing all this with no understanding whatsoever with this and having to sort through it on my own was scary as hell, and I would wish it to stop or shut down or go away, as that awareness would rumble and tremor through my body and I wouldn’t know what to do with it in order to feel a sense of calm and normalcy. Big ramble, but so much to say. Hard to contain myself. I know I’m here to do very big work, but centering and grounding myself and being able to consistently channel this energy has been my greatest weakness. It’s literally like being in a cage of Kryptonite most of your life, without a real tangible understanding and awareness of being in it.

I'm so curious as to whether one can go from being highly NON sensitive as a child to highly sensitive as a young adult? When I was younger I believe that I was H(N)SP and incredibly emotionally "resilient" (apathetic) as a way to protect myself from the emotional trauma I'd endured (parents divorced, mom abandoned etc etc), but after experiencing a number of events and engaging in emotional intelligence work that busted right through those "resilient walls" and opened the emotional flood gates again, I feel that I've become highly sensitive in recent years... and even been criticized for it. I've not fully been able to comprehend exactly how or if it's possible because I don't hear about circumstances like this often. Maybe one day I will know!

Emma Fretts , Hi Emma I too only became aware of HSP about 2 years ago. I’m 50, I do believe, for myself after looking into, traits of HSPs, early emotional trauma/neglect and early attachment theory, I have come to realize I was always hypersensitive. I had to build very thick walls as a child to cope in a very emotionless home. This is why I’m only embracing my intuitive, compassionate sensitivity now in mid adulthood. Do not listen to all the negative rhetoric non sensitive people dump on HSPs to make themselves feel better. If you can learn to appreciate what Elaine Aron has accomplished in highlighting more of the positive traits and how to do more self care. Know you had a really tough time growing up with your family situation and you more than likely suppressed your sensitivity to survive.

Hi Emma, I agree. I think I've always felt different and maybe have in my childhood and as a young adult built up thick walls to defend myself in a world of non HSPs which had resulted also in low self esteem. Though I faced challenge and came out the other end, it was more by putting up these walls instead of truly understanding my personality type as a HSP and learning to embrace it. It makes a difference now to know I'm not alone and don't have to feel my reactions or thinking or need for huge amounts of space is wrong.

Of course Free Will opens for expressive of oneself accordingly which in other words you can also eventually understand through the process of experiencing life just living pressing for time and specifics and details as you wish and as you so allow others to project their own upon you and sifting your way through with and without things that may and will come handy and you'll know what teachability and what it means to accept, and learn from the acceptance of one's actions towards themselves aswell as to others ... It's not about being perfect nor is it about separation of right, WRONG , rude, manners, etc... There's choice upon choice with choices upon those continuously quantum mechanics , visible, invisible, etc... If you can get the gist,. Which is the avenue in which brought you here to this particular channel.. again there's nobody stopping you from infact having a platform you create and do, not do,, redo, undo, grow, demolish so on and so forth as it's yours to do as being not for others to continuously feed on those that they utilize for what they're too scared to risk vulnerability themselves just to speak like u have zero concept of how to conduct yourself except for from obnoxious , and entitled bully seekers for scapegoats to feed false boosts of self esteem which clearly never ever fulfilled other wise there's no need to continue skimming surfaces while seeking misery's company ... So perhaps , there's at least opportunity for More than your own perception has significance beyond the limitations shown by how one conducts themselves.. learning by doing is actually still not limited to singular perspective for one it's all touching throughout exsitsance itself. So call pads lead eventually to meet up at that one place and their sense among throughout even if it's just momentarily

Unfortunately just couldn't keep listening more because of too much focus on the interviewer, her experiences and her laughing, interrupting and jokes. It started to distress me. Dr.Elaine has calmer energy and it is a pity to take the focus off her and the valuable message she has to offer. She wasn't allowed to deepen the conversation and to share enough information in the pace that suits her the best :( .. forcing jokes all the time.

I’d be interested in the differences of struggles/success between HSP’s that are completely blind/deaf and HSP’s who have somewhat normal sensory function - on a side note, it’s crossed my mind how much more sensitive my skin is in comparison to someone that doesn’t have this sensitivity allele that is “hyperactive,l in whomever thinks they have this. Maybe we have more allergens than the 80%. Could there be a possibility some of these questions could somehow scientifically define HSP’s further?

I loved listening to this conversation. I am French, and I try to find videos about being highly sensitive. However could someone tell me if when you talk about Highly sensitive person, does it also refers to "gifted" person? I believe "gifted" people are highly sensitive person...? I am trying to find if Dr; Elaine Aron is talking about it too. Thank you if anyone has some answers.

I love this episode! Upon re-listening and hearing the part where Alanis asks Elaine, "What about plants?" and Elaine answers that we don't know about plants[1], I wanted to mention "Sensitive Plant," or Mimosa pudica[2]. It's a whole species, not a minority of individual plants within a species (like highly sensitive humans and other animals), but it seems relevant to this conversation nonetheless. --- [1] ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-l6fXYBqw-tM.htmlm24s [2] en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mimosa_pudica
