Thank you for joining me Dale, we had a lovely time together. We only see each other once a year but have been friends for so long it seems like more! I enjoyed hearing about her history too. xx
Thank you for the treat of this episode as well as 119. They have helped me through days of Covid and not feeling like doing much else. When you post a new episode, it’s like a friend has come to visit - this time you brought along your friend Jan. How lovely it was to hear your conversation and learn so many interesting things. Thank you for sharing your story as well as all of your hand work, walks and thoughts. Your episodes are treasures!
I am always looking out for your latest podcast, and have to watch it immediately. All of your episodes have been a joy to watch, and how lovely to meet your friend and hear part of her story. It’s funny how we all tend to think that our lives haven’t been very interesting when that isn’t the case at all.
Always a delight to spend time with you. I especially loved the part when Jan told stories from her life. What a treasured friend she is. I’ve never done quilt as you go, so I truly appreciate you taking the time to show us again. It’s on my list of new things to try. Take care and I look forward to whenever you post again.❤
Morning Ester, I will pass the message on to Jan, thanks. Hope you enjoy QAYG. I have posted episode 121 and this morning 122. Hope you catch those too. xx
@@penelopeschinwagEver since Helen Ketteridge mentioned you in her MousieMakes podcast close to a year ago I’ve become a loyal viewer of your podcast, too. You and I are the same age and even though you grew up in England and I in California, we seem to share a lot in common. Take care
Thank you for a wonderful visit. Your friend is lovely and inspiring as you are too. To see her trying new things and washing windows got me thinking that I too can do more, why not try, right? I love how you love and appreciate people and nature and life.
Thanks Deborah, I think Jan is a marvel cleaning windows with Bob, they do enjoy it and know everyone of their customers - always helping hands too. Does is sound too much to say life is a gift and a treasure? Anyway it is! Lovely to hear from you . xx
Thanks again Penelope for such an interesting & varied episode. It was lovely to “meet” your amazing friend. & hear about her life. Couldn’t believe her age she looks great. Glad her visit perked you both up. Take care & hope to see you again soon. Dianne 😀
Thanks Dianne, Jan and Bob are marvellous - working still and enjoying it! Busy people. We only see them once or twice a year as they live too far away in Suffolk but having the week together is a highlight of the year. We just walk along the sea front, chat and more chat and craft together. what could be better. xx
Hi Pene It’s always a pleasure to watch Chinwag listening to your stories and sharing your crafting Thankyou so very much for all that you share with us ❤ It was lovely listening to your friend share some of her stories too as you say just the simple things of our daily lives that we find so interesting 😊
Yes, it's the everyday things that count, although having a statue of a great great great was something special I thought. She mentioned it in passing!
I just love listening to you. You have such a beautiful life. You are inspiring. I think I shall write also. Maybe my grandchildren would like to read about my life someday. God bless you and Pete. Keep on inspiring us. We love you too.
When I started my story the first words were 'I don't know who would be interested in reading this but my grandchildren!' Now I'm reading it on Chinwag! Go for it, it's a pleasant experience and you never know what will pop into your head. xxx
Thanks so much, you're right it did me the power of good, although I must say I had to rest for a couple of days after!! Too much chatting!! Enjoy the weekend and hope the weather stays beautiful for you. xx
Goodness me Pene, your memory of a perumed rubber doll transported me back to 'Judy ', a favourite doll with blonde rooted hair & such a pretty face ! Thankyou. ❤
Penny, your videos just keep getting better and better. I hope you enjoy making them as much as we all enjoy watching them. I certainly will be watching for the next one, I haven’t missed one yet!🎉🎉 Looking forward to .Jans visit again. Such a lovely friendship you two have…maybe she’d like to show some of her work sometime. Good to see Pete looking better all the time. Take good care❤️🇺🇸
Thanks so much for those kind words, I do enjoy making them, but still am hesitant about pressing 'public'. I'm accepting that's how it is now! I have to chuckle to myself! Jan and Bob live a long way away from us and so we only see them once a year when they come and stay so time is precious. However, they may come again late October and I hope Jan will bring some of her work. xx
Thank you Penny what a lovely long video you have so much patience showing us all the difference stitches and how fast you sew. I do like how you put your program together everything is so interesting , your an excellent photographer you stay on subjects with sum you don’t get enough time to see what they are taking, you get full marks. Can’t wait to see your next video, but until then l will look back at some earlier ones. Love you take care now. xXx
I loved the Wooden Tops and also Bizzy Lizzy and Tinger and Tucker. I'm slightly younger than you Pene and ended up seeing Watch with Mother with my younger sister and brothers so it was around for years. Your quilt as you go is wonderful. What a joy for your great grandson xx
Thanks Anne, I'm not aware of the latter but as you know The Wooden Tops had an effect on me, purchasing my dalmation - sweety boot! I have listened to your last episode a couple of times and loved the Ochre cardigan and well done for making a top, not easy. xx
Pene, your chinwag is always so full of life affirming content. Your crafts, stories ,conversations and the things your camera captures just gives me such joy. A special thanks to Janice for sharing her story. It made this episode that much more special.
Lovely visit with you & your friend. Hearing your stories was so nice. They were such different times that it’s good to remember how things have changed❤️
Penny that was fabulous as always. Today don't have to tell me to keep an eye out for you ..I love when I see you have put up a video and can't wait to get a bit of peace to watch it. Thank you again. You are great
Such a lovely video Pene. It's so good of you to let us tag along with you whilst you do your crafting. You always simplify things and then I always think I can do it too. I promised myself that this year I would do projects where I learnt a new skill, then I discovered your videos. Well, I've knitted Tilley, never knitted toys before, made several macaroons, knitted a Helen Stewart shawl, never knitted short rows, knitted 2 pairs of socks, and just finished the Silver Darling shetland knitted hat! It's all down to you Pene, and a big thank you for showing me how. Lovely chat with your friend Jan and glad Pete is doing well.
Well Linda, what a comment, it's one I will treasure. How wonderful that I have inspired you to take on new projects. I will have to mention it next time if you don't mind. Take care, see you soon. xx
The stories stir so many memories. So nice to have friends to share them. The video is so beautiful. How is it that even the landscape in England is beautifully aged, compared to the U.S.
I do feel the connection, for sure. Things are looking up for the U.S. at the moment, though, and we just returned from family time on Lake Huron, so not complaining. I guess home is where the famiy is.
Hello Pene More Memories Of Happy Days, So Similar To My Own When I Was Young, Loved Watch With Mother And Listen With Mother, Your Quilt Is Coming On Well, Been Lovely Listening To Some Of Your Friends Story, Happy Crafting Lynn 🪡🧵✂️🤗❤️
Morning Pene. I'm glad to hear Pete is getting stronger. Lovely to meet your friend. I admire her agility on the step cleaning the window. Thank you for sharing how you do quilt as you go. I was trying to explain to my friend how to do it. Now I'll just show her the video. Andy, Cath, and I went to the festival of quilts at the weekend. We had such a great day. I'm still paying the price with terrible fatigue. There's always payback for having fun. I just accept it these days. Your crafting table is perfect, well organised. I've finished a few things over the past few weeks. Now, to decide what's next to start. Have a lovely weekend. See you next time. Xx
Morning Angela, What fun to get to the Festival. I would be fatigued for a couple of months if I went as it a way for me but I did want to go! I had ME for fifteen years and know what it's all about to have fatigue. My energy levels still have to be well managed. So pleased the video will help your friend. I like to be organised with my crafting but must say when choosing fabrics etc the place can look like chaos - all put away afterwards - what fun. A lovely decision what next to start, that seems to spur me on to finish whats on the table - I've already got an idea buzzing around my head after watching Lilly. We have a quiet weekend which is needed after my friends visit. Perfect. Enjoy yours too. xx
Loved to see how you make your quilts. I make my quilts in much the same way..wether big or small.. I attach the binding before I quilt. I do love it when Crafers make the effort for the small details. Nice to see you Pen xx
Quilt making is such a joy, I can't believe a few months back I said I wasn't going to make any more. I do have one to quilt which is folded away for the winter, it's just too hot here at the moment. Nice to hear from you Barbara. xx
I’ve been watching this episode a little at a time since I came back from staying with family in Melrose for a few days last week. Thank you for showing how to transfer the embroidery patterns onto fabric - I had no idea! I loved hearing from Jan - so interesting! - as well as your childhood storybook and a bit more of your story. And it was a delightful film to finish off with. Thank you, Pene! x
Yes, I thought it was a lovely idea and Lilly showed it so well. I have a few things that I have made a long time ago and I think I could use those. Hopefully will have time over the weekend. I will show you next time. Take care xx
How I love your channel, I so enjoyed your chinwag today, full of such information and interest. It was lovely meeting your friend and hearing part of her life story. I’m resting up at the moment after a knee op, your video today was just what the doctor ordered, I so enjoyed it x
A video full of loveliness as always. Your stories are always so interesting as was Jan’s. Talking about bendy toys reminded me that I had one of a PG Tips monkey. I haven’t thought about that for a very long time but can see it in my minds eye so clearly now. 😊 Gill x
Pene, you are a treasure. Love your videos and appreciate the results of your creative spirit. Thank you so much for sharing, , it means so much. It’s good to know Pete is getting better Take good care as you do and know there are many friends watching and listening to your chinwag..
A brilliant episode, thank you. Loved listening to your friends story, as I do your story. Had to smile about the hairdresser story...cant be seen with wet hair or curlers lolol. Times have changed, not always for the better either. Thanks also for the lesson on quilt as you go. Ill track down some DMC Magic Paper now. Look forward to your next episode.❤😊
Morning Raewyn, I purchase my paper from Amazon as we don't have any shops around here that stock it. Talking of rollers I remember I had a private counselling session and after they had gone realised that I had left a roller in the back of my hair, I wondered what they had thought, to tell me or not! See you soon. xx
@@penelopeschinwag Thanks I may need to buy from Amazon also as I havent seen it on sale here in NZ. LOL I can just see the people sitting there with you wondering if they should say anything.
Absolutely brilliant Penn I remember the programmes too and the flowerpot men and the man that owned the garden but you never seen him but heard his feet what a trip down memory lane thank you so much xx
Impetuously I have bought the template set to make the QAYG! We shall see if I follow through. Although you and your friend are 5 or more years older than me I nod my head and remember things just as you do. I showed my granddaughter Bill and Ben the flowerpot men, it's on RU-vid, on my phone, she's 4 but not impressed. lol. Thanks for sharing your story and skills. Jane
Hi Penelope loved your vlog as i always do it always leaves me with a happy feeling inside after you have read your story of your childhood it was so nice hearing about all the childrens tv programmes you watch as i use to the same lovely to remaniice of ones childhood your friend a very nice lady it shone through what good friends you are anyway am looking forward to your next vlog you an Pete have a nice week-end ❤x
I really enjoyed listening to you and your friend Jan, talk! Jan didn't mention being evacuated during the war, so she and her sibling weren't? I love that book!
No, she wasn't. Quite amazing to think the first two years of her life were in the middle of London with Dad working as a fireman. I look the book too! xx
Well Pene I didn’t really think the chinwags could get any better but they did, it was so lovely to meet Jan and hear about her life. My father was in the fire service in Belfast during the troubles and had some bad experiences, he didn’t talk about them either…. Please thank her for window cleaning tutorial! Thankyou also for the quilt as you go advice, I’d like to give that a go for some new Christmas mats and a runner. Love to Pete, and you! And thanks. Xx
Wise I could hand sew but these days my hands are so bad can no longer manager because of the pain. I do manage to knit and crotchet but stick with top down in the round so very little sewing up required. Thank you for your lovely podcast 🥰
Pene, you looked especially pretty in this video. Well rested, perhaps or simply refreshed? In any case, so nice to see you aglow! Your friend Jan is simply amazing...incredible that she is 81! My parents were born in 39 and 38, so when she said she was born in 43 it didn’t compute at first! She looks two decades younger than them. Truly. Well done, Jan! Thank you for another video. Time flew yet again and you were saying good bye too soon. Meant to comment on your sweater from last episode; the sleeve looks quite nice and hope you are happy with the result. Hold onto that adorable book. I tried to find a copy and the only one I found the day I searched was 50 pounds! Keith and I will be in England next year for about a month, so browsing vintage books, along with yarn stores, is on my to-do list. My search for your book brought up so many others that look charming. And thank you also for the nature sceens. Love them and the music you choose to enhance the images. Always perfection! Ronna (pronounced like Donna, said with a whisper!)😉
Well spotted Ronna (said with a whisper!). The day this video went out I was 75 and decided that a bit of makeup wouldn't go amiss. I liked the look! How lovely you will be coming to England. Let me know your plans please! We hopefully are returning for a few days to Devon at the end of September so we'll see what the trees look like then. Thanks for joining me again xx
Penne, another interesting, learning episode had me reminising and love your bursts of laughter as always 💫 lovely to be introduced to your friend Jan really enjoyed the conversation. Say “hello” to Pete glad he’s improving moving back to full health. Lovely start to my day taking work day off as I’m driving couple hours trip to Adelaide (SA city) to see my old mate Dennis who is recovering in hospital from a fall where he broke his hip. He’s turning 80 yrs end year and I call him my “crusty old cobber” Australian for ‘mate’. He’s been grizzling to get home 😅 but I do understand it’ll be good to have him home and continue with his recovery build up his strength. I think I’ll show him how Pete’s recovery journey is going it might help him ☺️ Thanks so much again Penne, you’re episodes so help me too to keep going ⭐️⭐️⭐️🇦🇺
Have a lovely trip and love to your crusty old cobber - what a great title. Slowly slowly is recovery, fits and starts, so don't be discouraged by those. See you soon. xx
I love the iron, it is my second one. The first one lasted four years and then just stopped. You don't have to lift it and put it on a rung or stand it up. It goes up and down on its own. When pressing small pieces no lifting and I do all our ironing with it too. So much easier on the wrists. If your hand isn't on it, it will switch itself to low as well. I'll show you next time. xx
So much lovely content to comment on, this could well be a long ramble too! Your friend seems such a lovely fun lady, I'm so glad you inspired her to share some of her memories with us. I was born slightly later in 1957 but remember playing in a tent that Mum made us from a blanket and the folding wooden clothes horse and still love jam sandwiches to this day. I am envious of your folding craft table with the useful drawers 😍. Every day is a school day as they say, after all my years of sewing this is the first time I've come across DMC magic paper....can see an Amazon order coming up 😊. Finally it was a delight to share your walk in beautiful Devon. As always- Thank you Pene x
Hi Lin, looking down the comments I see this hasn't had a reply, although I know I have but where is it? A great memory with the wooden clothes horse, I think a memory of mine is emerging. Funny how we all love 'camps'. I love the magic paper and use every tiny bit. Jan is a lovely friend and is always 'giggling'. Enjoy your jam sandwiches! xx
Hi Pene! Would you mind telling me again what that book is that has all the sweet and small embroidery designs. I know you mentioned it before but I can't find it. Many thanks!
I use a Gutermann 100% polyester. I have just finished the quilt and made some adjustments as I was learning as I went! I hope to do a video next week of the process I finally came up with that I am happy with. xx
Pene, when you show block 3 and 4 (time in video about 9:35) can you tell me what the bunny fabric and mouse fabric is? I would like to find it if it is recent
