I love how you organized your Luxembourg stock books with catalog paper placeholders and the stock cards - very flexible and beautiful way to showcase your collection. I have a large album but I also enjoy keeping specialized sub-collections in stock books and on stock pages.
Yep, I loved the stockbooks. But I find stockpages nicer to work with. Now I 'just' use stockpages and stockcards. In episode 35 you can see how I progressed my Luxembourg collection to stockpages and using binders. But having a place for every stamp issued is kinda nice, but takes also a lot of room. @@chrislovesstamps Yes - I forgot about your recent Luxembourg video and the excellent reorganization. I was just catching up on your older videos during a rainy last few days. I collect the world in a Minkus Global stamp album that I built using pages combined from several collection box lots - managed to get a good condition and complete album until early 2000s. I wanted the album as a kid but couldn't afford ;)
@@voneschenbachmusic Hi. Wow, combing several albums into the one you always wanted as a kid must be so fulfilling. I really love that. It is like restoration, like restoring history. Early 2000's, is that a choice, as in, do you have a cut of date/year where you stop collecting?
@@chrislovesstamps Exactly! It was fun restoring an album. I'll add newer pages if I ever find any - Minkus went bankrupt and Scott printed supplements but they were crazy expensive so most people just stopped buying them. I have my post-2000 stamps in stockbooks for the countries I especially enjoy including Western Europe, Japan, etc.
Very interesting the way you use stock books with a label for each stamp. I collect Germany 1945-1949 so there are plenty of missing pieces still to be found in my colllection and I keep on reorganizing them constantly. Good suggestion!
You collects Germany between 1945-1949? Is that a typo or are you collecting only the timespan of those 5 years? I collect Germany too, but mainly DDR, BRD and Berlin (West), everything pre-1949 I keep but as yet not actively collect. My Germany collection is in a ‘bad’ shape, compared to Luxembourg. I like your cataloging system with the numbers ect on cards, very similar to a system I use but I use stanley gibbons numbers as that Is the catalogues I have. Nice interesting video.

Good seeing this video. I have to come up with a plan and figure out what to do with those I inherited. What was obvious to me is they weren't stored properly over time and most likely not collected correct. Stamps are all new to me.
Storing is really important. But there is various ways, not just one way. That goes for improper storing also, various ways in doing it wrong. Don't forget humidity, (direct) sunlight and mounted to acidic paper also.
Hi Jasmine. What I do currently is not add the catalogue value anymore. It is too much work. If I would I certainly wouldn't update it yearly. Catalogue value was for me an indication what the more rare stamps are. Mostly it is the higher denominations, not always though. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Hi Chris, thank you very much for this video. I still have to make many decisions about sorting and organizing my stamps, and really appreciate you showing what you do for me to see all the different ways stamp collectors do it. Your stock books and cards are very neat and attractive. I like it that you put the information with each stamp and that you have "placeholders" for the stamps you don't have yet. Some questions: what do you do with your stamps when e.g. with the first sorting of a world-wide mix lot of stamps. Do you put them on stock cards immediately? How do you order and store duplicates of your stock book stamps. On the stock/dealer cards I see you add the duplicates to the stamp you keep. Is that right? Sorry for all the questions. Thanks! 🙂
As yet I have the duplicates on the stockcards. For Germany I started a seperate stockbook wioth duplicates but I still have some duplicates in my Germany stockbook also (work in progress). For a world wide lot I order by continent generally, then I pull out 'bigger countries' that I collect actively or passively. Passive means I will keep the stamps but I won't look for stamps of that country to buy. Actively means I buy specifically. From the world wide lot for example: I pulled out Luxembourg, Canada, USA, New Zealand, Australia. All others went in glasines by continent. Other wise I won't have room. My aim is to keep one stamp and all duplicates somewhere else seperately for trading, swapping or to sell. Thank you for watching Charnie!
Great video showing two nice ways to store and present your collection. I personally usena hybrid system of individual cards with the stamps stored in individual mounts. I keep these in four ring binders on stock cards
