I'll be making my videos aimed towards beginner beginner quilters - as I have had many comments saying that they are 'new' or novice' or newbies...and so I am tailoring my channel to the most basic of quilting techniques. I hope you beginners enjoy my way of teaching!!

Very beautiful table runner. I like it very much. I like the saying too. And yes…I’m a kinda new beginner in quilting, and when I started out my husband and I started out with the most minimal of fabric just practicing, fun..but what a mess they were. I like to think I’m getting better, my seam ripper got a real work out, lol. Thank you also for the encouragement, which is much needed. Fabric so…expensive anymore that I’ve been watching to see if any sites on the internet are down sizing in sells just to be able to purchase any of there fabric. I sewed a few months in quilting and then quit as my hubby was helping me and suddenly decided he wasn’t doing any sewing on our machine period. I was so..disappointed to say the least as he was helping me with the measuring and all. So..now I’m left to fend on my own with trying to learn what to do, so…u-tubers such as yourself I’m watching their videos as well..trying to learn from them. Just like cooking everyone sews differently. So..,I thank you for your video. I took home economics in Jr high school years ago, but..the most we made was a dress and I believe an apron. I hope to learn more, I’m slowly getting back to quilting.
@jeantruelovetruelovequiltsfory
Thank you for taking time to watch me! Each project you make will hone your quilting skills a bit better:) Just start with small projects so as not to get overwhelmed and really TRY to finish them! :) You will gain confidence every time you sit at your machine. And don't get too discouraged, this should be FUN:) All the bet Sandra:)

I don't believe this. I'm actually working on pinwheel blocks. Your tips are probably just what I need to get them to line up perfectly. I never thought to start 1/4" seam a 1/4" from the edge. And pressing the 2 halves in opposite directions- GENIUS. Thank you
@jeantruelovetruelovequiltsfory
LOL! Well look at that! It came JUST at the right time:) All the best!

Thanks for watching me!! Yes, I've been collecting fabric for many many years and I am trying to use it up - although it would take me 149 life years to do so!! LOL!!! Thanks again for tuning in!! :)

The title alone is worth the thumbs up!!!! Great idea...start small with each skill and then build up to the magic of full cover quilt!! Helps avoid the tears so many of us have shed on our first quilting experiences.......Crystal
@jeantruelovetruelovequiltsfory
Thanks for watching me! Yes, start small....we CAN and WILL make larger quilts...but I feel it's important, as you say, to build from basics. Thanks again! :)

Jean, thanks so much! Over the last few months I’ve been learning machine sewing so that I can make face masks. I have a really simple Brother sewing machine (only has straight & zigzag stitches). I am an expert DIY guy for house repairs, design & build flower beds, fences by myself, yard stuff, ceiling fans, wood stove, woodworking, lots of electrical work, etc. Similarly, I’m finding sewing various styles of face coverings an attractive creative process, too. I talked my wife into letting me make table runners & quilted pads for end table lamps. She picked out the fabrics & now it’s up to me. What I most appreciate about your channel is how down-to-earth & candid you are (instead of scripted), and especially how encouraging I found this video to be. I did my 1st pinwheel block during the playback & actually produced something satisfactory! I don’t foresee sewing becoming my latest hobby, but I must say I am drawn to the gadgets & equipment & just the endeavor of putting raw materials together. Again, we new people need people like you to share your wisdom & inspiration. P.S. thanks to your cameraman Elliot, too.

Umm... I admit I scratched the coffee table & so it beckons for a runner. My idea is that we’ll eventually have 5 or 6 collections which we put out for the holiday seasons. I swear I didn’t scratch it on purpose just to be able to have a shopping spree @ Joann Fabrics!

Mikki Cooper. My mama and I went to our first quilting class 8 yrs ago. They had me make a Log Cabin queen size quilt for my first quilt. Then she stopped having classes. So my quilt is still sitting unfinished. I do have it all together. It is sandwich but not sewed together. I know it sounds crazy. It is still sitting. I really want to get back to it and start a new project. Thank you for your show. Glad I found it.
@jeantruelovetruelovequiltsfory
A log cabin queen size quilt for your first time!!!?!!? Nuts!! I say start small, slow and easy! That way your project WILL NOT be sitting 8 years along unfinished! How depressing! Yes! Follow along and make a simple block or two - you will be encouraged to keep on and most of all, ENJOY AND HAVE FUN!! This isn't rocket science - it's supposed to be enjoyable!! Thanks for watching! :)

I have been following you for quite some time now. I never really commented much until lately and always forgot to hit the like button. I decided I wanted to start at your very beginning and watch all the videos I have not watched and rewatch those I have. Making sure this time to like and comment as I know that helps you in how RU-vid places your videos, and as a way to say Thank you for all you have done for me. Not to mention it has been fun to see your first videos and how far you have come in your lighting and being more relaxed in front of the camera. There are so many robot types of personalities out there trying to teach that simply do not have what it takes. You are warm, welcoming, friendly, and most of all a great teacher that is making it clear in every video that it is not about you, it is about others and helping others. When I watch one of your videos you make me feel like a friend that is sitting in your craft room crafting alongside you. I truly appreciate the time and effort you take in providing this online friendship, it is greatly appreciated. I feel like I have known you and the Truelove family forever. I do believe that GOD blesses those who are blessing to others so believe me when I say you are Truly a Blessed Woman. I have one of the ridiculous things now interfering with my binge-watching your videos right now, I have to take a break and go fill an order. I will be back later in the afternoon. Here's hoping the sun is shining on your side of PA today and that you have a wonderful day. Nicole

Taking the time and energy to really try and learn a new editing program ~ tears and frustration aside!! LOL! I do enjoy coming into my room and chatting with people who appreciate me ~ when our friends DO come (BP ~ Before Pandemic), the kettle is the first thing turned on!! The weather here has FINALLY warmed up again..the last several days it was actually below freezing, so cold and we even fired up the wood stove again! Hopefully it'll be clear sailing for the next few months. Thanks again for taking time out of YOUR busy schedule to visit with ME! :) Have a blessed day:)

Lol my first quilt was a 12 in finished block...12 block quilt of sunbonnet sue and Sam. Including sashing and cornerstones with 2 borders. I stuffed all my Sam and sue pieces. Quilt took me maybe a month to do.....you know with work and all lol. I have quilted for almost 20years and I have learned a few things from you. Like that 10 minute 3 seams block. I ABSOLUTELY love that block and I may have purchased some fabric lol. Great job. I love to see us quilters teach each other new things and also teaching new quilters old and new tricks. Thank you for your awesome work and god bless y'all. You have a new subscriber too 😁😁

It's like practicing the piano. You start with the right hand, then the left, then put the two hands together. Play the music slowly until you've got the rhythm correct, and the volume. Eventually, everything falls into place. The longer you play, the easier it is to try something new. Same with sewing, or any "art form". ❤😊 Then, you realize you rarely need a pattern to sew...or resize a project.

@@jeantruelovetruelovequiltsfory I love watching your videos. Your clear explanations & down-to-earth common sense technique is refreshing & makes quilting easy. I've been a average sewer for years, but was never a quilter as I always heard it was so difficult & I'd need to be an expert in math. Since English is my thing & math is not my strong suit I never pursued quilting. I then was hired (through my job) to transcribe instructional videos for one of America's/Canada's best sewing schools. After discovering all their hints, tricks, & short cuts I was hooked on sewing. Best part is I got paid to learn from them. I just recently decided to try my hands at quilting. I've watched 100's of YT videos on quilting, but most are overly technical, a bit pretentious, & requires a near bank loan for all their specialty tools. I was about to bail out, on quilting, until I found your channel. Thank you, so much. You're a breath of fresh air. I love your sewing room with the shelves of colorful fabrics & your beautiful way of speech too -- sounds Irish to me? I feel like we could spend a day sipping tea, chatting about our kids & grandkids, & sew up a storm. Peace & blessings!

Oh thank you Anna for that! Like you, when I watched some RU-vid quilting tutorials, I thought, as an experienced quilter, that if a beginner was to watch some of them, they would not 'get it'.....because so many of the instructors start at say "Step Seven"...not taking into consideration that some people don't have a CLUE about Steps ONE to SIX!!! :) And so, I hope to really help beginner beginners...like...hold the cutter this way...position the ruler that way..and so on!! I just think that if you go to RU-vid to say, need to know how to repair your dishwasher, you want the guy to say "now hold the screwdriver this way, put it into this screw and turn..."!! LOL! Then you REALLY understand how to do it!! I appreciate your kind comments! Made my day! And yes, I'll go and put the kettle on and we can have a good old chat!! LOL!

Fantastic, Jean I am so very glad that I accidentally found your video. Now maybe all the fabric I have been collecting through the years will finally become works of art. I have always just told myself that when I become more confident with my old machine, that I will make something really pretty for myself and then for my boys. I have hand sewn some pieces, although not very well and never finished since all I ever completed was a top..lol. Sorry for the giggle, but I made that top when I was pregnant with my second child for his baby blanket and he just had his 30th birthday. I cannot wait to learn from you. ~SuzyJCinColorado~

Hi Jean! I love your pinwheel block. I just wanted to say that you are very clear in your explaining on what you are making. Most professional quilters don't take the time to explain in detail what they are making. They run through it way to fast. Even my daughter, Jen who doesn't know hardly anything about quilting loves to watch you. She says it's because she can follow and understand you easily. When I watch Jenny Doan or Angela Walters she says they don't explain what they are doing very well and that they just rush through it. How do you expect a new quilted to follow and understand what you are talking about when you just rush through it? But she loves watching your videos because of how clear and precise you explain and show us what you are doing. We will be looking forward to your next video.
@jeantruelovetruelovequiltsfory
That is lovely to hear! I feel that real beginners don't mind the repetition , repetition, repetition for emphasis! I think so many tutorials start on about step 7 ~~ assuming the beginner knows all about steps 1 through 6 ~ when they don't really have a clue! I tend to pretty much start at step 1....assuming nothing! :) LOL!

I started making my first pinwheel. I made my first block. I started cutting out all the triangle and I started to start sewing my next pinwheel. My first block I had 4 triangle with a design and 4 plain color. When I go to see my next pinwheel I can only get a total of 6 pinwheel. Why is this? I can't figure it out. I hope you can help me out. I just got new blades for my rotor cutter. I press each pinwheel seam. I am only making a table runner like u said start small. I am so sad because my first block came out so nice and the middle points came together really nice. I took my time and now I'm bummed out. Thanks for your advice and listing to me. I don't even know how many blocks I need. Feel like putting it in the trashcan. You r great in what you do. You r teaching me a lot. Yes I r fast. Watch out u might get a ticket. Thanks Ann! I don't know quite what happened while making this! If you made it EXACTLY like I show, with the plain color and the patterned fabric, right sides together, when you stitch and cut you HAVE to get the 4 half square triangles (to put together to make the pinwheel block). Did you just try doing one at a time? But step away now...DO NOT THROW AWAY!! You will see it with fresh eyes later! And then you can figure it out!! :) All the best !

@@jeantruelovetruelovequiltsfory I didn't cut one at a time. I was thinking that could be the problem. I've calm down now and I'm going to figure this out. Most people give u a sweet answer and go on down the road. You aren't that type of a human being. Thank you once again. I'm old and I want to learn the right way. Ann

Thanks for watching me!! its's not ONE ten inch...it's 2 ten inch squares put together and then when sewn and OPENED up into the half square triangles, then sewn back together, THOSE units make up the 12 inch pinwheel block. Hope this helps! ;)
