In this fifth part of our campervan trip to Scotland in August/September 2023, we arrive on the Isle of Mull. We have a relaxing day at Fidden Farm campsite near Fionnphort on the Ross of Mull, followed by a wonderful day on the tiny island of Iona. You are very welcome to come and join us on this part of our journey!

Iona did look so peaceful. I'm surprised at how small it is but with a permanent population. Wow, they even had a wool shop! This whole campervan excursion has been such a beautiful, exciting and rejuvenating trip. I think it would recharge my battery just watching the sea and feeling the salty breeze. It is sometimes hard to leave such a place, you just want to bottle it up and take it with you. 🤗 When I see pictures of those wonderful, pretty or sometimes broody scenes, I see color ways for shawl or quilts. 🤔 My last big road trip to the east coast resulted in me making a souvenir quilt, featuring fabric purchased along the way. It's funny how I have such a horrible memory but can look at that quilt and remember where the fabrics came from and the stories represented in images I was capturing in the design. You have a wonderful video diary of the entire trip, a perfect souvenir. So glad to join you on this trip. I am interested in all the sights, history and even what you are cooking up for dinner! Thanks for sharing.🤗🤗

Thank you, Karen. You're right - even just watching the sea and breathing in the sea air is very good for the soul! It's brilliant that your road trip quilt stimulates your memory of all the places that you visited - such a lovely way to store those memories. Morning Helen, I’m loving my Monday mornings. I get everyone off to work and school and settle down with a coffee to watch you before I start my day proper. Your drawings of your little friends are amazing and what a place to do it. Those pancakes look delicious. Oh Dapper I’d be right there with you, nothing better than scratching around the shoreline. My word Helen, how lovely is Iona, so fascinating. Yet another place to go on my list. 😮❤ Mull is already on my list and you only make me want to go there more. Just wondering do you get a ‘rolled eye’ as I do from husband, when I spot a craft shop?!😂😂 Can’t believe the next vlog will be the last one of the series. Thank you, Sue - I love to think about being part of your Monday morning routine! I loved sitting there drawing the knitted friends and made a big effort to say kind things to myself about the finished drawings! Dapper was certainly very happy to be pootling about on the seashore! Phil seems resigned to the fact that I rarely pass by a craft shop - in fact, I think he worries if I don't go in! I really hope that you are able to visit Mull and Iona one day! xx

I didn't want the video to end! I loved the tour of the abbey. The Rev. McLeod could be one of my husband's relations. Just kidding! Your smallest passengers looked like they enjoyed their trip too. I agree that it will be sad when these Scotland trip videos end. Thank you so much, Helen for treating us. "Marvellous" is the word. I couldn't separate out the highlights, although Iona Abbey and the Oran chapel looked magnificent. I especially liked the carvings intended for prayerful meditation. (The little opaque blue shaded tiles would make a wonderful keepsake). I hoped one of your woolly travelling companions would be included and Dapper looked to be taking in the stunning sea views with much appreciation. The serenity of Mull came across. You have me much anticipating the next one and then, hopefully, embarking on an Advent- Christmas 're-run'.💌💐

Grey, cloudy, chilly day here. So glad to see the sun and join you on your trip in Scotland . The local products are beautiful and I suspect the wools are hard to choose from. We must always support local entrepreneurs, they are the life blood of the people who create. Happy crafting❤

Just lovely as usual! I am wearing my IONA wool slippers as I watch! Mr E bought me one of their IONA tweed bags and several skeins of yarn as a memento of our visit! So beautiful! Hope I get to visit again one day! Thanks. Jane xx

Hi Helen, another lovely chapter in your Scottish adventure. Iona is truly beautiful. So much history in one small place. Mull was a lovely place to recharge your own batteries :). Your drawings of your wooly van mates were very very good. I gave you 2 ‘verys’ because I know how self deprecating you are :). Scotland thankfully still has many wild ish places, where one can appreciate the beauty of earth, sky and sea. Can’t wait to see what treasures you picked up in the wee craft stores 🤗

Hi Isabel, and thank you! Iona is certainly a very special place. Although I could look at those drawings that I did and criticise them, I can see that I have improved a lot since I first properly started practising! I really hope that Scotland retains all of its little wild places. I hope I will remember to show the things that I bought! xx

This brought back beautiful memories of our trip to Iona a few years ago. My husband and I enjoyed it very much. The history, the stonework. It is really amazing. We saw many daffodills, a few highland coos but no craft shops. Hmmm I wonder if my husband sidetracked us away from them? Of course you had to buy some wool. I wonder what you will make with it. The wind was very strong when we were there. I remember being nearly blown off a small hill. Looking forward to hearing about the rest of your journey.

Another wonderful video. I was a bit surprised to see all the trees in this one as so much of the landscape seems more scrub and heath. Beautiful views as always and the abbey was lovely. Enjoyed the sketches of your little camper companions.

Thank you, Margaret! All of the Scottish tunes that I've been playing in this series come from some books called The Ceilidh Collection (The First Ceilidh Collection; Second/Third/etc). They don't have a left hand part written down, but do have the chords - so I just have to make up a simple left hand part! x

I think Iona is my favorite part of this trip so far, it has a very special feel and such spectacular views. Want to see which items you ended up with from the gift shops! I saw a few I would want to bring home! Those yarn colors were very special. This is the first time I noticed your video had advertisements. Have a lovely week ❤
