Am I alone here? No one made a single comment on how they skipped an entire step, the MOST important one, lol. You didn't use any primer prior to painting or epoxy'ing. You'll be lucky to have 1 year of joy outta this job.
You may be alone. We followed the manufacture’s application guide to a T. I just looked at the application guides for five more acrylic pool paints and they were all described as self-priming or specified no priming required. We got three years out of it before we resurfaced the pool.
If you’re going to scrape and/or sand you “shouldn’t” need to acid wash as well. Acid wash is just to get rid or harsh chemicals on the surface of the paint. Scraping and sanding would remove most of that. Looks good though.
Appreciate the feedback. Even though we scraped and sanded the pool, there was still paint residue in a lot of places. We weren’t taking any chances with having poor adhesion, so we washed with muriatic acid. Plus, it helped to neutralize any alkalinity in the plaster and cement.
Thank you! Yes, we pressure tested in a previous episode. It was a bit of a pain, but well worth the trouble because we discovered a joint that had been put together dry and never glued! Here’s the link: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-VbBgFx_z_5I.html
Thanks, Dan! It was quite the job. Our paint lasted about 3 years before it started bubbling. We ended up having a company come in and apply a fiberglass coating on the concrete. It’s doing great and should last us another 15 years.
We’ve noticed a few blisters and small areas of loose paint, but not too bad at this time. Ultimately, we would like to do something like Pebble Tec, but it’s $$$!
Do you likecthis pool paint better then a pool liner?? Or why go with the paint vs a pool liner ? Is this a cheaper option? What was the total cost of the materials for this? And how long did it take you guys from start to finish !??
This is an old school concrete pool with a plaster finish. It never had a liner in it. It had been painted several times before we bought it, so we decided to sand everything down and repaint it. We ended up using around 7 or 8 gallons of paint. The pool was in horrible shape, so it took a long time to prep it.
Hi Patricia. We used the Ramuc AquaLuster Acrylic paint. We did an acid wash first with a diluted muriatic acid solution. Then, we applied a TSP solution. Finally, we rinsed thoroughly with pure water. Good luck with your project!
