Thank you for this nice review of this amazing car. I am very interested in the EV6 and looking nearly every information that I can find. Your clip gave me much information. Thanks for this - greetings from Germany.

A trick to ease the cleaning of the back glass/windshield is to glass ceramic coating. Gold wing in Ottawa can do it for you if you are not comfi doing it yourself. I put my name for a Kia EV6. lot's of good EVs out there but I just love the look of the EV6. Thanks for the good review.

Thanks for watching and appreciate the feedback! Yes, in general these reviews are relevant for some time, as many models don't get mid-life refreshes until years 3-5. This trim of the EV6 is very popular.

Great overview Ken, you must be one of the first few journalists to drive this in Canada. I agree the side and cross traffic alerts are great safety features, hopefully Tesla and others will add these soon as many entry level gas vehicles have this. I've heard feedback from journalists regarding the lack of a rear wiper was sent to the OEMs and we are hoping wipers will be added soon. There may also be software updates to allow the rear camera to be used while driving at normal speeds, which would be another good solution.
@EVRevolution
@EVRevolution 2 года назад
Thanks for watching JP! Yes I think one of the first this time! Seems the rear wiper is could be a hit and miss, as another viewer commented on his older Audi, did not have one and he's not had issues. Time will tell and if they add one, great. Good to hear about upcoming OTAs.

I used to have an eNiro that needed the rear wiper, but driving in similar rain/mud conditions with the EV6 in our native BC, the rear window was fine even though the area below the lower spoiler quickly became covered with dirt as usual. The Ioniq 5 with the more vertical rear window and without the lower spoiler may be a different story. BTW amazing car. So many substantial additional features over the eNiro - AWD, HUD, 20 inch 255s, powered pass seat, pass heat controls, powered lift gate, not to mention the "head turning" looks.
@jhindson88
@jhindson88 2 года назад
The rear wiper is not needed on the EV6. I have one and have had many cars that needed (and had) a wiper. The EV6 does not need one and the rear window is as clear or clearer than any of the many sedans that I have owned. The dead air is below the lower spoiler and that is where the dead air is and where the dirt shows up.

You are the first one mention about the missing rear wiper. I am in Utah and if I am at work with a snow storm in the afternoon, it can have inches of snow and it just won't work without a rear wiper. Please talk to these people and explain it is a must in certain areas to have rear wipers.
@EVRevolution

Thanks for watching. Yes I have and I believe Hyundai will be adding a rear wiper in the 2023 or 2024 Model Year version.

One reason that the car won't stay in ipedal mode for regen is because it's very hard on the rotors. My dealership (where I bought and still maintain my 2017 Ioniq EV) actually recommended not using the regen too much as it increases the need for brake maintenance; the only real maintenance Hyundai/KIA EVs usually seem to need. Incidentally, I love that they gave you the GT line 2 model in blue to critique. It's exactly what I have on order and, from what I hear, I'll be enjoying the car vicariously through RU-vid videos for about 12-16 months before I have one to park in my own driveway! A couple of quick questions: are the dual screens in the cockpit actually curved or flat like the Ioniq 5? And would one be able to carry small breakable objects like a camera or laptop in the 'Frunk' or would such items need some more padding/protection? The only use I can see for a frunk is to hide pricey stuff so I'm particularly curious. Really great comprehensive presentation!
@EVRevolution

Thanks for watching and really appreciate your feedback and comments! Congrats on joining the "EV Revolution" and sorry you have to wait so long for it, but it will be very worth it. Interesting feedback on the regen - I've not heard that before as pretty well all BEVs offer some form of it an most drive in the stronger regen modes. No hearing of any issues but hey, if Kia is telling you this, then they may know something. However, I would research that more as most dealerships are still lacking in EV knowledge. The regen should in no way impact the braking performance, unless Kia's (and Hyundai/Genesis) design uses the friction brakes more than the electric motor. The screen to my memory is flat, like Hyundai. For the frunk, sure if it will fit, why not. I would wrap anything that is "fragile" however in something (towel, bubble wrap, etc.) just in case as there is no padding in the frunk - it is hard plastic. You could put something in it to pad it down I suppose. If you get the AWD version, the frunk is the size I showed. For the RWD, it's about double the size (deeper). Also, just in case I would also put the item (like a camera) into a zip-lock bag or something resealable that can keep moisture out. The frunk has a rubber seal on the top and should not get much water on it, however it's always better to be safer than sorry. Especially for a big-ticket item like electronics, cameras, etc. Hope this helps!

@@EVRevolution Thanks very much or the feedback. It actually wasn’t the Kia dealer who told me about the impact regen has on brakes. It was the service manager at Hyundai. I’ve presently got a 2017 Ioniq EV that I’ve just put through it’s 5th Canadian winter. He suggested lower regen modes to me to save on rotor maintenance. I still use level three regen in ‘eco’ mode all the time. There is an impact but it’s minimal. I’ve had the brakes serviced three times in five years; no worse than if I was driving an “ICE” vehicle and being a bit of a leadfoot I suppose!
@jhindson88
@jhindson88 2 года назад
Yes the "information" about not using regan is pure baloney. Regen reduces brake use and lowers maintenance costs (dealer income).

@@jhindson88 In spite of my dealers advice, my own experience and intuition tells me you are probably right, Jim. I have to take anything the dealer told me earlier on with a grain of salt. After all, they were the ones that kept asking me if I was in there for an oil change for the first two seasons.🙄

My car is a 2003 Audi A2 without a rear wiper. Not ever been a problem. If not needed, through good design, why fit one? Same issue with some BEVs, why have a transmission tunnel? There is no logic in requiring EVs to look like ICE vehicles.
@EVRevolution
@EVRevolution 2 года назад
Hello John, thanks for watching and really appreciate your feedback on the rear wiper. With regards to the t-tunnel, some BEVs are "electrified" versions of an existing ICE vehicle, so therefore they use the same chassis. Kia Niro EV, Kia Soul EV, Hyundai Kona EV, BMW i4, etc., are just some models that fit this use. It's generally not a deal-breaker for most as I am not aware of many people shuttling 5 persons around all the time.
@johnkellett7797
@johnkellett7797 2 года назад
@@EVRevolution , agreed, but it is like making a diesel locomotive look like a steam locomotive just to please the 'stick in the muds'. The 'electrified' vehicles are far too compromised to be useful. The whole BEV concept allows more internal space / smaller external volume, making re-using an ICE body-shell a very silly thing to do just to please marketeers and their perverse view of the public. The BMW i3 (and the Audi A2 plus even the original Austin Mini - the BMW incarnation is hideous) are examples of very well designed cars badly marketed. Surely in the C21 we can stop that. Even the Tesla 3 has useless space under the bonnet filled with a 'Froot' (the bonnet doesn't have to be that long even for 'passenger safety', why not just make it shorter and save energy or add space to the passenger cabin or boot space. The four year old iPace design's use of space hasn't been bettered yet! It is an issue that, as a architect, I have to encounter every day. Clients demand a past solution because they cannot envisage a future solution. However in the real World it is the future solutions that car designers and architects are actually very highly trained to provide and which the World needs. The phrase 'trust me, I am an architect' has a lot to commend it :-)
@EVRevolution
@EVRevolution 2 года назад
@John Kellett Totally agree with you and we are seeing more ground-up BEV platforms here now, and coming. That is the future and pretty well most OEMs are moving there, if not there already.
