Thanks for watching! Hmm, that seems very odd. You should reach out to the manufacturer to see if it is needing a software fix. I'm had mine for months now with no issues.
Hi, I am insulted to be asked that question, as I always put a disclaimer if I am receiving anything from an OEM related to a video! I am never paid anything for any auto reviews. Sometimes, I am invited to attend auto launches and first drive events, in which the OEM will cover journalists transportation, accomodations and meals at the event location. This is standard practice and I am always part of a larger group that gets invited to these kinds of things. If that is the case, I call it out on my videos. However, for the vast majority of reviews I do, the fact is that I usually have some related costs, such as 407 fees, charging fees, car washes, etc. that I pay out of my own pocket. So go insult someone else with this kind of crap comment.
I was doing MUCH worse than that during the hideous -40C ice storm midwinter, but in good weather, but "well over 100kW" does seem to be quite possible especially if you can find the chargers that really are capable of delivering 200/250/300kW. Kenneth's 130-something is pretty good! 😀 VF8 apparently pre-conditions the battery IFF you use the onboard nav to take you to a charger - not just to the address / vicinity, you have to choose the actual charger off the screen like Kenneth showed, (or the VinFast app), otherwise it can take a few more mins to get to 100kW+
I believe ALL the Canadian ones come with the CATL battery. Certainly my 2023 eco model is [something something]_VF8_ECO_CATL, so I'm pretty sure Kenneth's review would be a [something]_VF8_PLUS_CATL. The pre-CATL batteries were in the early California "city edition" models, sometimes pronounced "$#!++y edition", with less range... and much worse reviews 😢
The only thing I'd point out is you can see real-time charger status in the VF App even if it is not available in the in-car HMI... Happy to discuss if you want. Ask John to set it up : )
Also - your charge rate will increase above 136kW to ~145, 146, even knocking on the door of 150kW if you get absolute perfect temps from the battery and the station is working as it should.
Patiently waiting for the VF7 and VF Wild. Tell Vinfast to put a frunk in the VF7 please! I suspect VF7 will do better in sales, just don't give customers a reason to cross it off their list. Not having a frunk is a big deal breaker.
@@minhtunghoang4743 It's still unavailable in our market. Where did you find this number? A direct conversion from other markets won't work. North Americans tend to get overcharged, especially for vehicles 10 to 20k markups.
@minhtunghoang4743 and others: I believe this is just purely a guess/speculation. However for that smaller SUV segment, I would surmise the VF7 to come in around Mid $40K's Canadian, with the top spec being $49,995 MSRP CAD or similar. They won't want to take a bite out of VF8 sales and that starting base is $53,600 CAD. So I can see the VF7 starting at $44995 CAD or something like that. Which for USD, would make it low $40K. Maybe even breaking below that barrier with the base spec. I would also guess that the VF6 would need to be sub $40K starting, like $34,995 CAD or similar. To compete they will have to keep pricing around these ranges. IMO. No facts, just my opinions.
Model Y interior feels like a kitchen counter, tablet, wheel, with a bit of a Musky smell. VF8 Italian Pininfarina design feels like a real car - "enough" physical controls, GORGEOUS HUD (no need to look ➡⬇away from the road to see your speed / nav) even in the base (eco) model. AWD as standard. Range is somewhere between the base modelY and the LR. 9.5kW portable/mobile charger included, not extra. By the time you have upgraded the Y enough to match the VF8, it costs more. Android Auto, Apple Carplay. VF8 ADAS beats basic AutoPilot, acording to (ex-)Tesla owners The only advantages of the Y are if you want to spend the extra $11k on Full Self Drive, or $4k for the dubious 3rd row of seats, as far as I can tell?
@NoseyNick The Model Y has much better range and efficiencies, that is the prevailing aspects of this vehicle. Also, native Supercharging is still very valuable, if one does some longer drives and needs this. Yes I know adapters and magic boxes are here and coming, however native still leads in functionality. Like I said, they are really two different BEVs for different needs/wants. As far as VF8 ADAS beating Tesla AP, well that is not the case. Tesla's AP is very very good for what it is, Lane Keeping and Adaptive Cruise Control. Especially the lane keeping, it sees the road in darkness and even when crossing thru large intersections. Tesla's system albeit camera-based now, is still very good. I would like to have my radar back, but alas Tesla is all vision now. So unless you have spent some time behind the wheel of a Tesla, to state that VF8 ADAS beast AP, is not true IMO. I use AP a lot and it works all the time with zero issues. FSD is another thing and I am not a fan of that.
Thanks for watching. I try to keep it real and yes, I understand early challenges with pre and early production units, but over the last year they have gotten much better and most issues have been software related.
@@normt430 ALMOST entirely software, not poor construction (mostly BMW chassis/parts after all) and the software HAS been fixed. I got mine just over 10mo ago and have loved it, cancelled my Ioniq 5 reservation.
Thanks for a great, very interesting review of a good looking EV. I really like this car and the VinFast company's integrity, attention to detail, excellent customer service, quality vehicles at more reasonable price. Kudos to this company !!
Thanks for watching and appreciate the feedback! Time will tell about how they do as a company and the statements you make, however they seem to be very driven to be successful and these things are important.
It looks like a great product. It is disappointing that Detroit's Big Three were never able to offer a similar product despite being in business for over a century.
@kelviskelvis7140 Thanks for watching! Kinda, they are a bit smaller IMO so may be more like compact SUV class. Certainly can lump them in for a comparison. Ford has dropped pricing on Mach E's to be very competitive and I do love them. Equinox is too early to say and pricing is still in a bit of flux until GM actually starts to deliver them in Canada. I have not driven one yet, only sat in car show static displays. Plus for sure Equinox is smaller than VF8.
As of this video, the current software for the VF8 was FRS 9.6.1.13, so many bugs have been fixed according to VinFast. Release 9.6.1.15 is coming very soon and this will offer improvements as well. UPDATE 1: Also, when using the build in nav, it does provide charging station availabilty/use and other specs. VinFast is supporting all the Charging Station providers that can give this info in their apps. So if you look for an Ivy Charger in their app, they will show you live status of a station (if in use, etc.). This info is fed into VF navigation and displayed when looking at charging stations. If you look on my video, it did show it for my charge trip, but I said that feature was not supported yet. It is.
Hey Kenneth, great to see an honest review from Canada! 😀 "[after an hour or so] it will revert those settings back to default" is only true of the "guest profile", I believe. If you set up multiple profiles, everything is stored. Certainly my wife an I have a bunch of different settings, including quite different home screen layouts, mirrors, some of the ADAS settings/warnings, auto-high-beam, and it recognises / switches them based on whose keyfob was used to unlock the vehicle, or they can be switched with a couple of screen taps and about 3sec delay whilst it moves mirrors etc. I'm not aware of any setting that still reverts. I know you can't type unless in "Park", even if you have a passenger to type for you, bit annoying, but you CAN instead ask Alexa to navigate to an address, if you have her set up. I remember I was going to lend you my VF8 (eco, in the green), but never happened. Glad you got hold of an official press loaner! 😀
@NoseyNick I had a profile set up for me with an account so I could use the App. Was not in Guest profile mode. So this is not the case where everything is stored. I sat with VinFast engineer after my review to go over the settings that were not saved and most will be addressed in future OTAs. Some like LKA coming on all the time, will continue to be this way, however I asked them to put it default to warning and not taking actions. The nav typing apparently is post 2023 laws which now prohibit this, I was unaware as my 2020 I can type while driving. Alexa would be a good setup to do and this would help for nav use. Yes I was going to reach out to you to meet up to do a review, but then VF called me to be the first for the press fleet. Thanks!
I understand the VF9 (minivan) is being delivered to early-reservation customers already, and available for test drives. Yup the smaller vf6/vf7, and the super-cute vf3 will follow in time 😴
Thanks for the video Kenneth. I keep seeing ads online to lease one for $350/month and yet every time I check their site, its twice that price. So annoying.
Thanks for watching. I would rather see BEV adoption, but many are not willing to part with ICE, so a good PHEV is a better alternative than an ICEV or HEV.
Thanks for the review. Put the charging port in the correct location, to bad they did not go all the way with a NACS port. Anything that keeps charging cables short increases charger reliability. With long cable are people don’t put them back properly, examples are everyware.. Example at the Grand valley destination chargers 2 out of 4 have been ripped out, due to being left on the ground and a snow plow ripping them out.
Thanks for watching. Nope, I won't get a chance until these are available in the Canadian Press Fleet. Polestar does not invite to bring me to product launches out of country. I have to wait my turn.
That doesn't look like a Cadillac! Cadillac has lost it's way. GM has turned every vehicle it has into a truck or SUV. It does not have the distinctive styling that says it is a Cadillac. That thing is atrocious! That thing looks like it was designed by Mary Bara, not a Cadillac designer. Bara and the CEO of Ford should have been replaced a long time ago; neither of them have any ideas past internal combustion engines 👎🏾
Thanks for watching and appreciate your feedback and viewpoints. Looks are very personal as everyone will have a different opinion. Looks similar to the XT4 to me.
Hello and thanks for watching! I don't have this vehicle any longer, only had it for a week. However, I would be happy to chat with you about these features. You can email me at EVRevolutionShow@gmail.com and we can set up a time to talk. Congrats on your LYRIQ purchase and thanks for joining the "EV Revolution"!
It has integrated roof rails. I can easily slap a canoe carrier or bike carrier on top. This means a lot to how I can use it. (I don't trust clamp-on rails with a canoe.) Canoe on top, use the hitch carrrier for bikes, and the fam can go camping. I can actually use this the way I need to. RBC did a financial analysis of Blazer ICE vs Blazer EV. The EV is cheaper to own, starting in the first year (dependinf on financing term.)
Thanks for watching and all great points for Blazer EV usage! Yes, I know that BEVs have a very positive ROI & TCO story and I try to tell people that using my own real-life costs to show. Hopefully more folks will get it.
Great video. A few details. The Lyriq itself didn't have production issues. But GM's 24 NCMA cell battery module (8S3P) that they use in all North American EV's were having production issues. GM could make cells but the company the contracted to automate module assembly had severe issues. For a while GM was building modules largely by hand which slowed all of it's Ultium vehicle production. This is now resolved and GM is now pumping out vehicles. Of note Ultium is a platform of parts. The vehicles are on different architectures. Of note there is BT1 (short wheel base and long wheel base) and BEV3 (SWB and LWB). BT1 LWB is the Silverado EV, Sierra EV, Escalade IQ, Hummer SUT. BT1 SWB is the Hummer SUV. Lyriq, Blazer EV are on BEV3 LWB. Optiq, Equinox EV are on BEV3 SWB. The Bolt EV is BEV2. The new Bolt will continue to be on BEV2 but will be updated with the Ultium architecture parts bin.
Thanks for watching and for all this great info! Very much appreciated and yes I was just generalizing the production slowness and had heard about battery assembly issues. Does not really matter what was the cause of the slowdown in as much as it impacted overall sales and deliveries. Now that GM is moving along at a good clip, should get much better!
*_Matching watch and socks and car highlights._* *And yet women say men don't think about what they're going to wear...* _Pffft...!_ _As for the Car._ Hyundai have made the very first EV for the petrol head and done a fantastic job too. What's not to like about this licence banning car? You can do the monthly shopping. Drop off or pick the kids up from school. That's if they're to bone idle to walk the 1/4 mile down the road. Or collect the in-laws for the day. Just make sure you've dropped them off back at their home. And once you done all the above, with the press of a button or two, and you've driving on one of the stages from one of the world rally courses. And while one half of your brain is saying, _"I am a driving god!",_ the other half is saying, _"Licence... Licence... Don't lose your Driving Licence..."_ EDIT I forgot to mention. Have you seen one of these in red? Doesn't it look like the gorgeous *_Lancia Delta HF integrale_* from the 1980's?
Thanks for watching and you are the first to notice my "colour" coordination! You get the gold....oh I mean Orange Star! Thanks for the feedback and you have summarized what Hyundai has done in the IONIQ 5 N so eloquently in a paragraph of well-chosen english grammar, that took me much longer to articulate in a video! Thats the true essence of this BEV and it is truly an experience, to say the least! Oh and yes, off camera, my mind was thinking both of those thoughts....especially the second one! :). And no, not seen it in red yet, but this Matte Blue is definitely a head-turner! Thanks for making my day today!
