The ACE Questionnaire, also known as the Adverse Childhood Experiences study, is a widely used and validated tool to measure the impact of childhood abuse and neglect on health and well-being. The questionnaire assesses participants on 10 different types of adverse childhood experiences, including physical, emotional, and sexual abuse, as well as household challenges such as substance abuse and mental illness.
The ACE Questionnaire was first used in the Adverse Childhood Experiences study conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Kaiser Permanente in 1998. The study found a strong correlation between the number of adverse childhood experiences and the risk of developing health problems later in life, including obesity, diabetes, heart disease, and depression.
