As you probably know, my dance started as Boogaloo in Oakland in the late 60s. It was a liberating, free-spirited African American dance that spread around the world and is now enjoyed by people of all different backgrounds.
Recently, a "Boogaloo Extremist" movement has surfaced, which took this word and associated it with values, actions and ideals that my community (and most people I know) do not support. There are ties to White Supremacy and violence, and they ultimately want to start a 2nd Civil War here in the U.S. (please look it up to educate yourselves)
We want to let the world know that we are not associated with this movement and that our culture cannot be taken and twisted in this fashion without us speaking out about it.
Any posts you can make will help! Even if you don't know anything about Boogaloo, just find something online regarding its connection to dance and music and make a post today with the hashtags provided. This will get the word out to our community as well as theirs. THANK YOU!
