Welcome to episode 2 of The Terry Collins Show. The weekly podcast covering all things NEW YORK METS.
On this 2nd show, Terry and co-host John Arezzi start it all off by discussing the Mets disappointing start to the 2024 Season.
On Talkin with TC - Terry brings on the former MLB Umpire Tom Hallion and for the first time EVER they discuss the May, 2016 ejection that made the terms "ASS IN THE JACKPOT" and "YOU GOTTA GIVE US A SHOT" part of baseball lore. They watch the incident together and give their take on that heated argument that was captured live on a hot mic. The inside story fans will never forget. Hallion gives us the answer on the origins of that now famous phrase! Then we bring on 10 year old Mets superfan "The Amazin Cam" on the "Ask The Skipper Segment". Cam talks about his appearance on The Kelly Clarkson show, when he got to interview Mike Piazza. Then we watch Cam's Opening Day VIP Experience as the special guest of Mets Owners Steve and Alex Cohen.

I love Terry Collins so much and Tom Hallion had the patience of a saint with him. “Get it all out…” 😅 This is in my top 10 of favorite moments in Mets history. And BTW, there wasn’t a single moment where I didn’t think that was all Thor. 😂

Terry Collins was never a favorite manager of mine and I was glad when he was gone. After this video came out and seeing that Terry had the same level of anger I did that night and seeing an umpire who understood changed a lot for me. Terry is #2 behind only Bobby V in my Mets love of managers. Every Met fan loves Terry after that video because nothing gets a NY fan on your side like caring like we do. I have a ton of respect for both Terry and Tom thanks to that clip and to be honest I would love that video no matter the team involved but its MORE special to us Mets fans!!

Wilpons apparently hired TC to be cheap (surprise) during a down period in talent. At least since 1975, TC is the best Mets manager. I loved that guy. He had guts and grit and the players respected AND loved him. Never shouldve let him go. Longest tenured Mets manager. I love seeing him show up during games.

Thank you for my new favorite show! Hey tc, the mets really have some great players in the field but they likely won’t contend due to the starting rotation. Why did they waste a year of these players careers and possibly their last season with the Mets? Over a self imposed spending limit? Wouldn’t a contending team earn much more money? They could have gotten snell/montgomery on 1 year deals, and instead elected to assemble the worst rotation in recent history 😂. When a couple starters would make the difference why dont they at least trade for them? Why wont they try Trevor Bauer? He seems to be proven innocent and will pitch for league minimum so why not help the team contend?

Terry I love you interaction with Tom & he explain things from his perspective. Now we know what Tom Ment by their ass was in the jackpot lol, also by what you menrby giving you all your shot. I agree if the pitcher would leave a bruse around the hip area nothing would be said by anyone else & game went on, but insted he threw behind him & yeah that's... we all know what the umpires have to do in that situation. I'm sure Tom did t agree with MLB or Joe Torry in the prior years play off incident, but I like how he said "There's nothing I can't do anything about that, You know how I feel about it" This was Great hearing from you Terry & Tom. I kind of miss the better days, before the pitch clock & instant replay, but in a way I kind of like replay in SOME instances like when a BCB (Bench Clearing Brawl) happens who did what who started it & what else happened who else was involved. Close plays at the plate where the catcher is positive he got the tag in time or batter shares they missed the tag. This whole thing of retouching the base before you leave for the next base sounds like softball, only there the girl can't leave the base till the pivot foot hits the ground other wise she's out for leaving too early. I would love to have Tom's take on some of the stuff mlb has put in place.

I read a book written in 1985 by Cormac McCarthy called "Blood Meridian." It's set in post-Civil War Texas. One character who was from Kentucky uses "being in a jackpot" as being in a difficult situation. McCarthy, brought up in Tennessee, was a master of the language and drops all kinds of archaic seldom used words into his writing. Would love to know how that word got from Saugerties, NY to Tennessee.

I’m a Yankees fan, but I enjoy watching the Mets too. I have so much respect for Terry Collins after watching this. You hope everyone has your back the way Terry had his player’s back. Tom Hallion is such a class act too. One the best videos in MLB history.
