Excellent points made by all regarding Mo and Razor contracts. I am not very knowledgeable about this stuff and was very curious about this subject. You laid it out nicely. We shall see. 🤔
I think based on what’s left of the cap, it’s pretty clear at least Raymond or seider will bridge, might get one of then for 8 years, but probably not both
It feels really odd to see people saying Veleno's deal is an overpay when his performance was comparable to Rasmussen's performance at ~$1m less. Veleno's deal is fine. We're gonna sign Seider and Raymond, and still have cap space regardless of whether or not we sign Berggren.
Thanks for the episode guys! I feel like people forget about intangibles in signings like this. At face value you see a slight overpay (even just from analytically i don't see it) but people REALLY forget the fact that this signing gives us two years (instead of one year he would have received in arb) plus he still remains under team control as RFA in two seasons. I still feel like Veleno can take another step. He can be a 15 goal (35pt) guy, that will eventually be apart of the mentor group for young prospects. He'll play 4C and PK2 and do fine at this AAV for us.
He hasn't had the chance. They threw him on a line with horrible linemates and limited minutes, and still did really good his first season. Only played 12 games last year and scored 6 points. Roughly a .5 points per game player. Imagine if he played with a 2C. He's FAR better than Veleno and Rass, probably put together. Also better than Copp and Fischer.
@T-Will-4554 they aren't comparable. His defensive lapses make him a liability playing in the top 6 right now. If he can improve defense just a little he'll be a fine 3rd liner.
@GrindLinePod I'm talking about offensive potential between forwards. Centers and wingers alike. There are quite a few defensive liabilities on this team right now in the bottom 6. Might as well go with the higher scoring defensive liability lol He's nowhere near reaching his full potential. They need to trade him or keep him up, he's WAY too good for GR.
@@GrindLinePod he would have to sign a bridge deal then, which would kind of be unfortunate. It would be a dream come true if him a Ray took team friendly contracts. Even if we signed Ray at 8m per and Mo at 8.275m i would love that!
