For some reason as a european I want you to like this so bad like Im responsible or something. Doesnt make sense I know, Im not even spanish. Maybe because I know the camino is very different from what ive seen in your videos in the us. Its similar to the way I feel when I have international friends stay with me here in amsterdam i just really want them to like my city... I just love your videos and its my dream to do one of the big trails in the US one day (preferably the pct)! Your vidoes were the first ones i watched and still cant get enough of them :)
As a spanish, I feel the same. I am not from the regions the camino de santiago francés passes on. I always love Dixie's videos and I am really happy she is in Spain now😃.
From Luxembourg and I feel exactly the same, especially having done a bunch of trails in Europe and +700 miles on the Appalachian Trail. I'm sorry Dixie that you had to be part of European humpage. Believe me, it's not a cultural thing ;)
0:12 About the picturesque villages: You know what they say: In America 100 miles is nothing, and 100 years is a lot; in Europe, 100 years is nothing, and 100 miles is a lot. The feeling I get in the US is that the old historic centers are just not valued. You have some historic architecture as well. Different style of course, but historic by your standards all the same. But you tend to not do business there anymore, so things get shabby. 5:27 The green little guy: Probably an emerald lizard. They get about a foot long, and are common in southern Europe. 7:30 Re stop sign: They are standardized worldwide, I think. "stop" is understood in most any European language; even before we adopted the octagonal stop sign the equivalent in my home country Switzerland had the word "Stop" in it. 10:09 Camels walking: No it is not acceptable in any current European culture. But even more than different cultures, there are different turn-ons. They probably got a kick out of doing it in semi-public. It must have been pretty common in earlier times. Remember: individual rooms for sleeping are a pretty recent development. And I must compliment you on your photography of the small critters. You do a really good job of that.
Did you know one of the pilgrims you dined with (approx 13 minutes in) had started in Belgium. Meet her back in July on the Camino in northern France. Big surprise to see her in your vlog. Great to see she’s still on track. Her journey will be over 2400km long when she gets to Santiago.
I was just thinking - your posts surely reflect how excited you are watching Montana's experience!! It's so wonderful that the two of you are able to share this together (AND, you're willing to share it with us!!)!!
Dear Dixie, your reports of hiking, experiencing something, through hiking are absolutely one of the best. I like that you finally explore Europe. We also have also amazing really long hikes here. Your accent is great.
I know you did the Camino 3 years ago but I'm really loving your videos. I've been watching a lot of Camino vlogs as I'm planning on doing it in the Spring of next year and I'm really enjoying your videos. They have so much heart and you're so personable. It's so sweet that you did it with your sister.
Watching yall’s experience on the Camino is making my heart so happy! The lady that gave you paint and space to paint your shells... that’s the kind of love the whole world needs to imitate ❤️
Oh, and it's really mind blowing how nice people are in Spain and generally on the Camino. I got rides to town, free accomodation, meals, good tips and hints, everything from them. It's even better when you speak their language. And I always like to "pay forward" the good deeds with doing nice and good things for other people too. That's so much part of the Camino.
The kindness of that lady in the ceramic shop was a lovely story to hear & restores some faith that there are kind people out there. And I expect it really gave you a lift for the journey ahead and some “pay it forward” when you also have the opportunity. Wonderful ❤️
When I went to Italy and Ireland a couple years ago we stayed in a bed a breakfast that had a sign on it that had been put on it I’m assuming judging by its age when it was built in like 625 CE. European culture built with rock and marble. Native Americans history was more of a cultural heritage than stone buildings, though have you been to Mesa verde or Montezuma’s castle or tuzingoot in the four corners region of AZ, NM, UT and CO? We have culture here but it has been more of a culture of the earth until the Industrial Age hit here in the 1700-1800s. I’m so glad you are having this experience with your sister. It’s great you have been able to immerse yourself there. Indeed the best part of travel are the people......there is natural beauty and good food too but when you take out the people from the equation it isn’t as amazing. Keep up your amazing adventures and sharing them with us when you feel inclined 😊
I went backpacking in Europe when I was seventeen and again at twenty-one, you're making memories that last your entire life. Please have fun and thanks for the vicarious thrills.
I love how both of you are having so much fun together. I think that's one of the reasons I enjoy your videos. You're enjoying life...and nature and just being free. You're not posting like a reality show where all they do is party and drink. It's nice...and both of you are nice. We need more of that in the world. I hope to do the Camino one day. I'm 57yo...so trying to stay in shape. You're very pragmatic so all of your experience and comments are a big help to anyone pondering the Camino...or the other trails you've trod. Looking forward to more videos.
Your first feelings (even "why a STOP sign?") are what I felt, and still feel, after almost forty years of my first steps in Spain. It was a storybook that I did not want to end. Thank you for sharing this with us. Thank you for sharing this with Montana.
I have watched a couple of Camino Vlogs, I must say I am enjoying yours so much more than others, you are bringing such an amazing perspective to this adventure. It looks like Montana is indeed enjoying it as well.
That’s the Camino experience. I completed Leon to Santiago and ur was life changing. My trust in God grew so much in this days. He showed up everyday right when I needed it. What a great experience to have with your sister.
Timon lepidus - Ocellated Lizard Won't bite or hurt humans usually eats insects, beetles some fruit etc. On the list of threatened species. protected in Spain. 5:22
I remember one of the characters from The Way, went to el Camino in hopes to lose weight and never did because he was eating all the time! You two are having a great adventure, everything looks so beautiful over there.
I have watched many Camino videos in the past couple years (I have done three) and yours are so refreshing- a change up on the usual videos. I am excited for your continuing journey!
Yep! I've been taken into a Swiss cafe and fed croissants and coffee when lost and trying to find my way. They wouldn't take my Francs! Another time we came through a small village in Austria and found coffee and fresh fruit on a table beside the bike trail. Once in Scotland a B&B owner offered to refund our money and give us another night free because the airline had delays that cost us a day. I could go on and on with stories like that. The world really is a wonderful place once you turn off the tv and get out and enjoy it!
So sweet video ❤️I had to cry 😭 a couple of times, my grandfather passed away yesterday 😢😢😢 I’m determined to do al Camino to celebrate his long beautiful life
Re historical buildings: it's common everywhere in EU - most villages have a history of 1000 years. The church in my little village stems from 1507. In Rome you will see large buildings, like the colosseum (amphitheatre), which have been built around the lifetime of Jesus Christ, and are still there, in the centre of the city, which was then already older than 500 years and the heart of the world.
The thing that amazes me it that they must have been built by hand without all the power equipment we take for granted now. Every time I see those stone walls and bridges and buildings I imagine all the labor that went into the construction.
Some parts of the walls of the city in south-east France I'm now living in are almost 2,000 yrs old (They were built between 200 and 300 AD ((Gallo-)Roman times!), even though most of what we can see is from later medieval times and also from later religion wars' time (16th c.). In some part you can actually see a roman column in it, that was put there during the construction. PS: Nice to see a longer episode, Dixie :)
It's kinda really unreal to me that you are now in Europe and hike the same trails and see the same things that I've seen some years ago. You were that amazing (and still are) internet star from far away and now you're here with us. Welcome to Europe from me and all other "old" pilgrims!
The reason we have the theme parks in the U.S. is the idea of bringing these places that you are visiting to the U.S. for people to experience. The backdrop of these theme parks is where you are now visiting. Keep up the great videos!
After watching other hikers series videos of walking the AT and PCT I realized I got spoiled by watching yours first. No one else captures the trail experience quite like you do. Also your personality is just joyful! Thank you for making these videos so I can live vicariously through you! I will do a trail one day! I'm determined!
i am so glad you documented this! my heart is soaring and my eyes are filled with tears as i watch this because I CANNOT WAIT TO GO. I WILLLLLL GOOOOOO one day
Always enjoy your videos. I did the Camino in 2014 and it really had an impact on my outlook on life. It’s the safest way to experience Europe. Enjoy the people, food (cheap wine to) and scenery. Most of all enjoy your sister.
What a joy to watch your videos on the Camino. I found you first on your PCT hike and again on the CDT. Also watched you and your mom and that oh so precious Fancy making up the missed PCT miles. This is such a different environment I can hardly believe it's you! So fun! I just love your personality. Thanks so much Dixie.
Thanks...This seems like fun. i am glad to see your meeting people who can help you along the way and you two are growing together during the experience.. its nice to watch others go thru a journey and you know that when it ends they wont be the same..
Dixie, your photography and narrative as you travel are really great! You could absolutely have a future in travel photography or travel show kind of thing or whatever...you have a gift! It's great to go on this journey with you. My sister and I will be doing this journey in a few years...
Such beautiful scenery you two are getting to see and experience! Some folks have no care for others who were trying to sleep! SHEESH! Montana, my thoughts and prayers are continuous for your feet! So glad you gals are enjoying the Journey through some very gorgeous countryside! Thanks so much for letting us travel along with you gals through videos!
Im so enjoying your videos of the Camino and watching your experiences as many are so similar to mine yet also very different in some respects. Buen Camino!
20:50 I love the travel life! I've done about 8 months of solo travel throughout my life and there is such a great community among those who wonder. There have been many people I've meet- split rooms with, traveled with for a week(s) and never seen since but will always remember
What you had described, in regard of the pottery shop’s lady, is what we call The Camino Magic....las magia del Camino. I guess it is similar to the trail magic you experienced along the american’s trails! In my 2 Caminos I learnt how wonderful people can be. What a great energy flows while on a long distance walk, and how every day becomes a special and magical day! Buen Camino to both of you!
Girl I am living for your vlogs right now, been with you since the AT. I am an avid hiker who slipped on some wet grass and broke my right ankle in two places and have a triple break in my tib fib, can’t even walk. Thx for letting me hike through you!
I'm happy for you two that you're having such a great time on your hike. I love watching your great vids and experience Europe from a new perspective that way. And just imagine, this is only a tiny part of the continent. There are still so many more and vastly different hikes waiting to be explored here, like in the Scottish highlands, the Irish coast walks, the Fjells of Sweden and Norway, the Alps stretching through France, Swizerland, Italy, Austria, Germany and Slovenia (almost forgot to mention Liechtenstein and Monaco since they are so small), mediterranean islands like Corsica and Mallorca or really wild areas like the Carpatian mountains in the east of Europe, to name just a few, each with a wholly different nature, climate, history and culture. Though I have to admit, wine fountains are unfortunately not a common thing - but neither are camels humping in monasteries. Pepper grinding night time lions much more so, and wine or beer often have something to do with that. I can recommend the soft earplugs by Ohropax (the pink ones) to counter that, you should be able to get them in most drugstores or pharmacies.
Jessica, I'm so glad that you haven't forgotten how to say "yay....!" I'll never tire of that. Great video with awesome videography including audio! And it sounds like ear plugs are worth carrying.
I could never bore of watching your adventures. Thank you so much for sharing your hour WY with us. Again. What amazing communities you are experiencing.
Ohh so thanks for this video!!! I was questioning the shell situation too! You are soo awesome, and its so cool how u r experiencing the world with such openness without prejudice. Soo cool
Very interesting today and a sentimental journey with two sisters who will always remember doing this very special passage together...as you ladies grow elderly, I can envision you sitting together and talking about this trip and these days. 💙💚. Thanks for sharing with us these once in a lifetime moments.
Never surprises just how great of a community backpackers are (for the most part lol) So awesome that even in other countries people are being kind and helping out
Been watching some IBTAT videos from the PCT. When you said "back on trail" my brain did a flip as I imagined you finishing the sentence, IBTAT style! If you were ever to hike with or around him, a guest appearance in his morning greeting would be the ultimate hilarious moment. Safe travels and take care.
Well done, Dixie! My niece and I find your work delightful! We noticed that you are a great editor! Very entertaining! Thank you for giving me a cameo appearance! It was quite a surprise to see me in your episode 3. You are a wonderful lady and I wish you all the best. Pixie
