This is a book worth getting. Especially during the present financial climate. Full of tasty, nutritional ingredients and cheap.... which is a bonus. I have made some of these dinners and my family love them. Xx
It kind of started as a bolognaise, and then turned into Cowboy Hot pot. I couldn't help thinking that a few sausages in there would've been good. Nice one Keith, good to see all of the old school dinners coming back 👍👍
my sausage cowboy supper, 4 people, 12 sausages brown in a pan dont fully cook remove, one fine diced onion in pan fry untill slightly brown then add some sliced mushrooms two packets of supermarket ready sliced, high heat untill mushrooms have started to go slightly crisp (if they start to release water just leave on high heat untill it evaporates). add sausages to pan, then add two tins of baked beans,mix soon as starts to sizzle add 1 litre of hot stock(4 oxo cubes) bring to boil, turn heat to medium low add 2 tables spoons of tomato ketchup, give a stir and one more oxo cube, simmer for aprox 1 hour serve with boiled pots, roast pots or mashed pots. enjoy.
I always keep a packet of instant mash in the cupboard and any stews or casserole I need to thicken up just sprinkle over the top and mix well to the consistency you require also do the same with leak and potato cup a soups , two sachets in a pint pot boiling water and instant mash to thicken.
Ooh this looks very similar to Cowboy Stew. Looks cozy and warming. I'd love to 'go' grocery shopping with you if you're comfortable filming it. I enjoying seeing everyday errands
Thanks Old Food Guy, I am going to have to try this one. Don't remember this one at school, but it does remind me of something my Great Aunt used to cook. No baked beans, but any left over meat or vegetables thrown in along with the mince. Loving this school dinner series.
Hi Keith the potatoes would of been nicer cut smaller and made when the potatoes fall too thicken it a it I make that at home and I call it lobbies cos you a lob anything ini it I remember having it at school but it was thicker the potatoes fell so it must of been on a long time cooking .Great recipe Keith can't wait for the next one xxlove fran xxx

I used to love school dinner, especially in junior school, jam roly and custard, and a good old stew, this one you've cooked looks really appetising, keep it up, enjoy. 😊😊
Top job mate just got back from the pub mate but that is awesome mate family meal for a few days for next to nothing looking forward to making it to take to work on nights
Great video again 👍 I commented on your live stream yesterday but, don’t think you noticed it…. I’ve bought this book after seeing you had and have made the farmhouse mince, it’s lovely. Recipe says condensed veg soup which you can’t get, so I used 2 tins of normal veg soup
I'm sure you'll find, like any kind of stew/curry/chilli etc that the flavours will be enhanced on the 2nd and 3rd days of eating it. Dont you always find it tastes better reheated the next day?? I'm sure it will freeze well too, (will need to as it looks like you were cooking enough for a small army 😄) Regards to you and Nat x
That's not the cowboy hotpot we had at my school. I wish it were! For us, "cowboy hotpot" was liver and boiled potatoes. Might have been a bit of onion, but no tomato. It was grim! Early eighties, this would have been.
Sorry just have to say that just because the mince isn't red, doesn't mean it's any less of a quality product! Could of saved yourself even more money! Trust me, I'm a butcher!
