Nice one - taking those night shots. I liked "clearlake's" comment on being 55, newly divorced, and almost a narrowboater. A splendid mid-life crisis and much safer than a red sports car and 25-year old blonde! Narrowboaters seem a special breed, men and women alike: independent, curious, risk-takers (in the sense that anything might happen), and keen to take control of their lives. The rest of us live through their lifestyle vicariously and safely. Thanks for sharing yours with us. John, Ontario, Canada

Good point John, although I think many solo boaters in their fifties and sixties have chosen the lifestyle to escape (and I include myself in that). Some recover better than others, some prefer the solitude.

@@talesfromtheswansneck The dog is called Chester? Now I may be mistaken, but the pooch seemed to have a slight limp in the short clip. So I wonder if it was named after Matt Dillon's sidekick , Chester, in the TV series, Gunsmoke.

I have three dogs and one of them does not like any animals on TV so your channel is or was a safe bet 😁 It seems most boaters except cruising the cut and the tiller people have dogs or cats and because it’s late I thought I would watch you! I fear your channel may also soon become iPad only and not TV friendly. This really is a beautiful canal and I think selling your photography is a great idea. Maybe consider a calendar I don’t think an6 of the other channels do one but I could be wrong. Thanks as always for sharing your adventure.
@talesfromtheswansneck
@talesfromtheswansneck 4 года назад
Thank you Sylvia, sorry your dog doesn't like other animals on tv, however four legged friends may only appear briefly from time to time, so the big-screen could well be a safe bet still. Sadly calendars don't really sell in enough volume any more, but I shall be producing cards. Take care

Tales From The Swan's Neck When I was 55 and newly-divorced, I seriously considered a narrowboat (I have since discovered that 95% of newly-divorced men in their 50s seriously consider a narrowboat). In the end, I decided against it. And one of a number of things that put me off was the problem of shopping. Of course, going to the supermarket is never a truly enjoyable experience at the best of times. But at least when you do it in a car, it's relatively painless. However, unless a narrowboater hires a taxi, it must be a nightmare - particularly as boats tend to have minuscule fridges and no freezers and supermarkets are rarely a two-minute walk from the towpath. So no wonder you are looking fit, given that you doubtless have to lug heavy bags for miles. Therefore it would be interesting if you could do a video on shopping (no narrowboater seems to talk about this most practical of issues). How often do you have to shop? Do you plan these trips ahead in order to minimise the pain? How many miles in a typical week do you have to walk in order to get your purchases - and how long do you spend in carrying them back to your floating home?

You are really a most sad person. Basing your life choices around shopping is so so unfortunate....
@clearlake3492
@clearlake3492 4 года назад
@@vickijohnson4668 Amazing - you must be psychic! I was just about to respond to our Vuko pointing out that he was being unnecessarily rude, particularly as I don't 'base my life choices around shopping'. Even more remarkably, you have identified one of the main reasons I decided against a narrowboat 20 years ago (I am now 75). Sure I was fit and healthy back then. But I had enough foresight to think what would happen if I reached an age when that was not the case. Now I do indeed have mobility problems (arthritis in both knees plus a serious problem with my lungs) So opening and closing lock gates would be a nightmare. In fact, I just couldn't do it today. And how would I have got back on dry land? After all, unless you can afford to buy a narrowboat without having to sell your house, getting back into the property market would have proved impossible for me as narrowboats go down in value, while house prices go up. Do I regret not living on the cut? No. A few years after getting divorced, I met a lovely lady and we now live happily on Malta. But I still enjoy watching the exploits of those who are clearly braver - and fitter - than I am...

If you are looking for a possible upgrade for the Olight you may want to look at the Seeker 2 Pro model as it has a bigger battery, more lumens (not really needed) and is very floody so you can light up quite a large area. I also like the M2R Pro Warrior since it has a tail cap switch, 1800 lumens, and 300m of throw when you need to light up something farther away.
@talesfromtheswansneck
@talesfromtheswansneck 4 года назад
Ok thanks, but I used it as a promo for Olight, and whilst I was impressed with the brightness I found the build quality poor in that it is now quite difficult to turn on, and goes off with the slightest knock.
