I first learned to memorize scripture by listening to Stephen Johnston's narration of the nkjv on cd, and what I quickly found how was that learning it by ear not only made it easier for me to memorize large chunks at a time, but also made it so that whenever I would recite it I would use Johnston's dramatic intonation by default. There was never any period where it was coming out in a monotone way. 😋 Having the narrator's intonation embedded into it also makes the sentences flow very naturally when learning it, which is especially helpful when learning something like Romans or Ephesians where it seems like the sentences go on forever haha. Using a combination of the audio and some mnemonic imagery for keeping track of the overarching structure, I can usually memorize a chapter per day without too much trouble (either during my morning quiet time or while I'm out driving). Longer chapters are going to take more time than short ones, of course, but even sizeable ones like say Romans 8 can be learned in a day. I think one of the major advantages to the audio format is that you see the chapters in terms of sections and not individual verses, so your brain is working on chunks at a time instead of being intimidated by dozens of numbered lines of text 😆

The mnemonics definitely come in handy, though! Before I found out how to use them, I just learned by rote, and I would sometimes forget my place in the sequence and spend a lot of time trying to remember where I was. That would really take the wind out of my sails. The mnemonics make it much easier to keep track of the sequence
