... I agree that maybe some windows were excessively "messed up with", but I see things differently than most critics here in the comments. Lots of ground ladders raised, quick hose line deployments, lots of hustle...

@catboattwo
@catboattwo 3 года назад
@@BC-of7qx Maybe that´s right.... But that depends on the fact, that i´m living in a country, where house-fires happen three to four times less then in the US. I´am a volunteer firefighter for more than 38 years and i´m proud of, that we have normaly a very low number of calls per year in our 8-thsnd. people village. Seems to me, that we are doing something quite right or a bit better.... We do not smash windows, we do not cut holes in roofs and we are fully dressed up on arriving on scene. We do not wave around with dozends of bars, hooks, ladders an saws, but we put out fires effitiently with a minimum of damage. The population of my country ist four times lower than the US, but we have the same number of firefighters. So what do you want to teach me...?

Let's arrive on scene and smash out every window and feed the fire a ton of oxygen before knocking fire down. Lucky the fire didn't get out of control adding all that oxygen not to mention causing way more damage.

Recruit school teaches the by the book "perfect condition" way of doing things. On the fire ground you will never find the perfect condition. Some things that are done on the fire ground aren't supposed to be done but they are for different reasons. The Academy can't teach you 10 or 20 years worth of experience. Most of your learning is done outside of the academy.

There is a big list of things that I don't agree with here and go against my training. As bad as it may be, instead of bashing them, consider that they are volunteers and probably don't get the training that most paid department get. Point out stuff constructively and hopefully it will make a difference for the future and they can learn from it. Leave some explanations on here about why they should do things different. Give a man a fish he eats for a day. Teach him to fish, he eats for life. Lets make each other better rather than see how much better we are.

Its joked around about because people are always forgetting them and getting chewed out by some e8 because he didnt have one (on Kandahar airfield in afghanistan) new army shit. Not that its pointless, at dusk over there between the dusty air, low light and huge amounts of traffic in KAF its good to have but like anything becomes annoying because POGS lol. This was the worst fireground tactics I have ever seen! "let's go smash every window in the building and cause thousands of dollars of damage for a small bedroom fire." not to mention by taking every window in a building is dangerous as it will create a flow path and worsen the fire by allowing air to enter and feed the fire. and they look like a bunch of bozos walking around the scene with waist straps hanging and half ass PPE, no seatbelts enroute, smashng windows above other firefighters heads with no warning. The list goes on. Just brutal!
@LCERRP
@LCERRP 9 лет назад
You must be new here. This fire department is located in Prince George county Maryland. Almost all of the departments there do what ever they want. They will break windows for no reason wear no scuba and do lots of other dangerous things that's how it works in that county nothing is gonna change it.
@OnionRingsGaming
@OnionRingsGaming 9 лет назад
hfd88 YOU are the bozo. Everyone knows if you don't properly ventilate a fire you risk flashovers and backdrafts.
@hiltzy
@hiltzy 9 лет назад
+Onion Rings then everyone should know proper ventilation doesn't consist of smashing every window of a building. Its systematic and should be controlled. Im a career firefighter and do this job for a living. I know what proper ventilation is. You would never see these actions by my crew. And we actually take safety into consideration on a fireground. Unlike these cowboys who are just waiting for someone to be injured or killed.
@corey97140
@corey97140 8 лет назад
+Onion Rings assuring the fire is at the extinguishment phase is key before opening the structure. Ventilation is what feeds a fire until that water is on it. THEN you clear the smoke out.

@RobertTaylor-nn3ri
@RobertTaylor-nn3ri 10 лет назад
This is horrific. 1. life safety 2. instant stabilization 3. PROPERTY CONSERVATION. With very little smoke showing, why would you cause thousands dollars of damage when you could simply open the window? Second, at 4:29 and several other moments, their waist straps are hanging. That is a lack of training. That could get someone entangled and is setting a bad example. At 1:42 they arrive and again, the lack of care for the PPE is horrible, as it is slamming the side of the truck possibly damaging it. That could cause life safety issue if this was a big incident. This is one of the worst channels and some of the worst firefighting I have ever seen. To all rookies this is a bad example, do not follow in their foot steps.

@ScubaSteve07194
@ScubaSteve07194 9 лет назад
291xMac Not to be a douche but you always sound like a douche when you critique fire departments that aren't your own. It's their fire, they fight how they want. Then again it looked off to the side from the main entrance. BUT even if it were directly over the entrance, if I were inside I'd still want it there. I'd rather bump my head on it walking on the ground floor than have to bail out the second floor and there be no ladder cause safety sally didn't want us to bump our head walking around. Pros and cons to that situation.
@gocoastgaurd721
@gocoastgaurd721 9 лет назад
Scuba Steve I agree, I'd rather bump my head than not have a ladder. But, if the engine company were to pull the line in and the ladder were to get bumped it could skid on the concrete and fall. Leaving an obstruction in the way, no ladder, and the potential for somebody to get hit with ladder. I can see your point about the critiquing other departments, but at the same time, I'd rather be critiqued and given ideas about how to do things better than to not have any input at all. However, I don't know the situation on the fire ground because obviously I wasn't there. So there may have been a report of a victim trapped in that apartment which justifies the ladder. I don't know. Just pointing out a potential problem.
@ScubaSteve07194
@ScubaSteve07194 9 лет назад
291xMac They didn't say anything about it in the video but in the description it says they did have a report of people trapped. So that may have played a factor. And it's true that it could get bumped and fall. Seems like there were enough guys around they could have had someone at the door feeding hose in. Then again being an apartment building they could have flaked the hose out inside somewhere we couldn't see thus negating the whole hose hitting the ladder anyway. And it's true critiquing is a good thing, unless it's from an outside source on a video website. They aren't going to get the info. Now that being said, having a good discussion about it is a really good thing. Which is what we have here. Also thanks for not going into a full fledged rant about safety though. Discussion=good, rant=bad.

+Ricky PGFD encounters many working fires in one year. It depends on the contents on fire. They may be the same or different then the city, as in the city, no big rooms, not a lot of interior time. But in places like PG, houses with larger rooms, more smoke, more time in the building searching or attacking, more soot or "salt". Just by judging a whole brotherhood by the acts of a few is not tolerable. Its like saying all apples are rotten at the store when really only one or two out of the bunch are. All in all, just think before you say.

I can't watch any PGFD videos anymore. Those guys have a MAJOR hero complex. Pride is great in your job, but you guys have taken it to an unsafe level. You have convinced yourselves that not wearing PPE is safer, it's a competition to be involved at the scene and destroy anything at the cost of the home owner, you can open a window the regular way during overhall to vent, you don't need to smash it, the true emergency is over. If you smash a window from the interior without a mask on, you my friend are a RU-vid firefighter. Smashing 3-5 sets of window for a single room an content? You claim you are professionals, well how about you hit the gym a bit and get off the computer. I would love to see what your guys accountability looks like. Freelance central in PGFD. Don't get me wrong, I am 100% on board with aggressive firefighting, but I also like to see property conservation and not see my crew die of cancer. -21 year career firefighter, still in shape and cancer free.
