I loved all the tips for storage. I'm blessed with having a husband who lets me decorate his practice with quilts on the wall. His patients love looking at them. When I switch them out, he usually gets complaints because some patients have a favorite and they always want to see them.

As I’m sitting here waiting to pick up my grandchild from school I decided to listen to a podcast…first podcast ever! My son suggested I look into listening to podcasts…. I knew I wanted something having to do with quilting…well it happened to be this one…great! So many great ideas, suggestions, etc…I’m hooked already! As a retired school teacher and beginner quilter (2years) I love all the advice I can get…my husband and mom are my biggest supporters…our home is filled with wall hangings, word walls, quilt decor etc Best of all my mom and I both quilt and share our ideas…. She has done it for years but I never picked it up…now I’m so hooked…😊 I look forward to going back and listening to the prior podcasts and future ones!

QUESTION for your next podcast: I have so many quilt patterns in paper, digital, and in books I have purchased as well as free patterns. I get a bit overwhelmed when I want to start a new quilt project. Between fabrics, patterns, and types (runners, lap, queen, king) I have a hard time sifting through it all to make a decision. And just when I'm about to start a quilt project another beautiful pattern and/or fabric line is released. How do you organize your pattern stash? And how do you choose a fabric collection for a pattern? Any tips will be greatly appreciated. Y'all had me in stitches😂In my family, I would have to be specific and let them know any quilt can be used EXCEPT the ones on the wall.😂 My oldest son took wood shop class and made me a quilt stand. At that time, I was not a quilter so I used it to hang store bought quilts. Now my quilts adorn his beautiful woodwork and it is a favorite to display quilts. I have a ladder my boss made me when I retired and it is a very treasured piece that displays several quilts. And I use large baskets with rolled up quilts too! My hubby is very supportive of my craft and doesn't have a decorative bone in his body! So I get to decide on the decor in our home.

Loved the video; informative. I had an elderly friend that used very thick "straight pins" for hanging things. She called them "cousin to a nail." I will never forget that and they are perfect without marring the quilt or the wall.

I loved this episode so much I'm watching it again back to back!! Chelsea, if you're worried about smells getting into your fabric you can set out a bowl of white vinegar when you start cooking in your kitchen and let it sit out overnight. By morning even stinky fish smells are gone. We live in a two story home with a basement and those smells seem to get everywhere. By morning all smells from cooking are gone when I've set out the bowl of vinegar!!

You three are the best! I am a sampler stitcher and when we moved to our current house 13 years ago, my husband wanted to know if all my stitching was going on the walls of this house...uh...yes!! I told him the walls of his garage were totally his to decorate (he has a separate garage from the house). Over the last decade I have decorated his garage as well...but not with my samplers. Hahaha...now my quilts are starting to take over our house...it's just the way it is! 😁

You should use the outdoor fabric to make quilts or pillows to put outdoors. The lady whose email you highlighted might be able to provide good fabric resources. Quilt ladders - check your local antique shops. I purchased an old apple ladder that I use for some of my quilts. The ladder was originally about 18' long. My husband cut the top, more narrow part of the ladder off and that is used for smaller quilts and the lower, wider half of the ladder is used to display larger quilts.

How does dad let you decorate everywhere with quilts? And: his idea of decorating is pendants/ a guy's dorm. OMGosh! Billy, you are going to have to pick between marriage or living single in a studio apartment if you want to decorate like a guy's dorm! Actually, this is why husbands have man caves. Simply put: Happy wife, happy life! Luckily my hubby is supportive and likes quilts (his mom, grandma, and aunts made them also) and the fact that my "studio" is the front room of the house with storage in nice furniture cabinets (no plastic bins). He is also working on his first quilt project: Laura Heine's Fish collage and helped me build a quilt ladder during lockdown. This was a great episode!

I’ve been organizing my sewing room. It’s taken me ten days X 6 lol. But I did take my bins into the living room and worked at organizing all my precuts into bins. So I’ve done 6 months of challenges in 6 weeks, I’m almost done, this was huge, I took all my fq bundles apart, and organized by colour. I have tons of scraps as well, so I’ll be working on cutting them into usable precuts myself, over the next few months. Thanks for doing challenges.

This is in between a question and a request. I have always added your new collections to my stash as I love the way they mix and match from year to year. But I have never see any 108” fabric for backings. Is this something you would consider in the future? Plus who decides if a particular pattern could become a “basic” something that is always produced yearly. I feel there are a lot from your collections that are perpetual “top sellers”

I love hitting up yard sales and thrifting. Awesome find Chelsea! I have my mother in law's armoire. I might have to move that into my sewing space! 😉 My husband loves what I do. I told him I wanted to move my quilting room downstairs..he agreed because he has been upstairs with me and realizes it does get hot at times or cold in the winter. So, he is letting me take over the Den. Not the dining room because that room sits right next to the front door. He does allow me to do the decorating. Our home is neutral. We have our Dodger gear here and there as well as some painting/art work of his choice. This was a great episode thank you for great tips about storage. All 3 of you are great! Keep up the good work. Billy - stay neutral in your colors for your house and meet in the middle when it comes to furniture. Or you take a room to decorate of your choice and let her pick a room. Remember if that doesn't work just meet in the middle and if you can't then you just keep on trying to make that decision on what is best for you both! Good luck!!

Smaller quilts make great coffee table toppers. Runners look great hanging in doors. Smaller quilts look great instead of a painting and don’t need framing. Smaller quilts are also great for outdoor door decoration if the doorway is sheltered. Smaller quilts also look good on the backs of chairs just like folks used to us crocheted doilies. My front door currently displays the star pattern quilt block Pat Sloan offered as a fundraiser for Ukraine. It is in yellow and blue. I made a second one in red and blue for the US. I have double doors so it looks great. Just an old wooden ladder also makes a great display item. Unquilted quilt tops make great table cloths and quilted ones look great on an unused dining room table. Whenever I buy fabric I always ask myself how it would look in my house.

Billy's decor worries were funny. Thanks for the laughs. But it reminded me of a decor story from my early married likfe. A wise lady at a Bible study suggested that I not neglect to put up our first Christmas tree. She gave me a beautiful angel topper she made and we still use today and we've been happily married to for 28 years! Upon discussing this with my husband, I was surprised how important it was that we NOT ever have a "theme" based Christmas tree. It also helped me to focus on what to purchase ornament wise. So wanting to be a good wife, I went to a local decor store, purchased all sorts of ornaments(not too many as we were tight on money) in traditional Christmas colors and proceeded in decorating our first Christmas tree. He came home from work and was concerned that it looked like a theme tree. I had bought a beautiful red wooden garlend that tied everything together perfectly. So I had to explain to him and show him how it wasn't a theme tree at all, that it had a huge variety of ornaments and he was satisfied. Since then, childrens homemade ornaments from long ago go onto the tree and we love to purchase ornaments from various holiday places and all go onto the tree. It's always gorgeours. It doesn't look messy but beautiful. The key is to tie it together with similar type balls, or stars or garland. It reminds a lot about scrappy quilting which need certain colors or background or chain blocks to tie it all together into a beautiful cohesive all. Anyhow, thanks for the lovely episode and jogging a beautiful memory.

My master bedroom closet is referred to as the quilt vault. I have a couple of parts where it is quilts instead of clothes.

1) there is a Sunbrella factory about 4 miles from our home. 2) love Billy's storage question and mentioning he won't be living with his fiancee until marriage. 3) display table runners at the foot of the bed without extra weight and bulk in the warm southern summers.

Country Sampler magazine has a variety of artisans who make things such as quilt ladders. An Amish furniture store might also be more likely to carry them

I bought an antique cabinet from a local shop that I use to store quilts. I also store them on the bed in our guest room. My husband jokes that anyone sleeping in that bed will be crushed from the weight of all the quilts.

My husband doesn't seem to care or if he does he suffers silently. However, I do not have a lot of quilts on the walls. There is a real mix of cross stitch, small quilts, paintings and prints.
