Episode 94: The WORST Doctor Who Episode | Who's There? A Doctor Who Podcast 

please bring back the troy ramblings! the recent episodes have been so short😭

The Big Finish Monthly Range story _The Next Life._ It's three hours, THREE. It has four villains, an annoying rich guy who doesn't do much, Zagreus; A recurring BF villain, who's inexplicably voiced by Daphne Ashbrook, the Kro'Ka; the main villain of the arc (think the toymaker if he had no real control and just followed the main cast), and Rassilon,_THE Rassilon. None of the villains are used well, the Kro'Ka, (who hasn't really had the chance to shine or confront the main cast really) is reduced to Rassilon's minion, Rassilon also just shows up toward the end and then loses, I can't for the life of me remember what The Zagreus does, and the annoying rich man is removed earlier in some balderdash. Four villains all independently scheming does not work for this story, it was muddled and annoying and wasted two really interesting antagonists without using them for anything interesting. Now that the villains are out of the way, I can finally get started on my gripes about the main cast. The arc that this story concludes (The Divergent Universe Arc (Big Finish did arcs with 8 back in the day)) is sent in an adjacent universe, where time doesn't exist and planets are instead zones, adjacent to one another (Like The War Games), the zones is an excuse to pull the TARDIS out of the picture and still have a Doctor Who-like story, and the lack of time is an excuse to make Paul McGann a mean and uninteresting Doctor (Possibly the worst crime in Doccy Who's history), basically what I'm saying is that the 8th Doctor is entirely unlikeable and despises his main companion Charley (Who he'd agreed to just be friends with after things got a little romantic in Scherzo (One of my favourite stories for contrast, how did this arc go from best to worst?)). Speaking of Charley, she is so horribly mistreated in the DU arc, it's so sad, I won't mention them but they do horrible things to her, look up The Creed of the Kromon if you're curious, it's like after she and 8 agree to not go further the writers started hating her, made 8 start hating everything (including her) and even made the other companion hate her. And the other companion, C'rizz, He almost feels like a joke companion, they made a shapeshifter character in an audio story, and yet he still feels like cardboard to listen to, his entire arc is being sad about his wife's death, which is not in itself bad (Graham is like that after all), except he's the one who killed her, in the overly dark, sickeningly perverse adventure The (aforementioned) *Creed of the Kromon*, which would be my least favourite story of all time if it weren't for The Next Life. I know that seemed a bit rambly, but it's essential to my hatred of this story The plot is mostly boring meandering, it concludes unsatisfyingly, and the main three all mutually despise each other, leaving a feeling of futile emptiness in the listener. In short, It's a boring story, where everyone hates each other for previously established reasons within the arc, it has too many villains without satisfying resolutions, and it is the conclusion to an arc that was a miserable slog to trudge through, I'm normally a positive person, but this story broke me. If I have to pick a TV story, I would choose Death to the Daleks, the main cast is sleeping through the story, and Terry Nation seemed to have forgotten how to write daleks, to quote Sherlock Holmes, Death to the Daleks "....was a miserable bungler." I don't think the solution in arachnids in the UK is let them suffocate, to me it seemed like she thought there would be enough food for them to survive to the end of their life span. SO the food would outlive them/they wouldn't get through it, sort of thing. That's how I took it and I like that episode personally.

i have to agree with fear her. definitely what i would’ve gone with, along with maybe orphan 55.

i think fear her is really underrated, whenever i watch it i enjoy it! and iv'e always been right!!!!!!

I LOVED arachnids in the UK. I loved meeting Yaz's family and Ryan's friend. Definitely not the worst episode of Doctor Who, come on.

I’m glad my viewing experience differs each episode of Doctor Who I watch, sometimes it’s a serious watch others it’s through a comedic lens, I think because I watch fear her through a comedic lens I’m able to enjoy it cuz of all the silly stuff in it, take all that out and the episode is extremely dull. Also, I find heaven sent a bit boring lol

Nah I had to rack my brain for what TRULY irked me in an episode, and Arachnids was it. I still have a little fun with the episode, but God, I just can't like it really at all lol. Even Orphan 55 can be moulded into a comedy session.

the crimson horror is bad. like someone said, i forget it even existed that’s how boring it is.

For me it would be cliche to say idiots lantern love and monsters and fear her cause those 3 episodes are like a template for the worst episodes but I would say aside from them it’s The Rebel Flesh/The Almost People cause for one it has an unnecessary monster inclusion no real explanation for the origin of the ganger liquid and it slog to get through and really the only 2 episodes in season 6 I don’t look forward to having pop up

For me, Love and Monsters is still the absolute nadir of Doctor Who, ....and it has ruined listening to Mr. Blue Sky .

Most of New Who is bad its nothing but a soap opera proper Who 1963 to 1989 has all the best stories.

I genuinely dont understand why people like Heaven Sent. Its painfully boring.

I did not like Arachnids too, but saying you would root for Trump is insane lmao
