I visited the Epping Ongar Railway and enjoyed it so much, i thought id share it with you all.
A 6 mile heritage railway running from just outside Epping-Ongar, with its London Transport heritage it was a no brainer for me to visit.
I have to give a massive thanks to Howard, a good friend who is a guard, he couldnt have been more helpful in showing us around.
Thanks also to the rest of the staff for the warm welcome.
Visit their website at www.eorailway.co.uk to get yourself some cracking fish and chips on board, plus a nice day in the essex countryside.
Eric.
Ps, please check out www.AGRmodelrailwaystore.co.uk for your model railway needs!

Not sure why, but the sound of an old prop plane going over head, momentarily just breaking the silence and ambient sounds of a summer's day... Is just so so relaxing and peaceful... Lovely video mate 😎☺️

1865 The Beginning In 1856 The Eastern Counties Railway (ECR), which later became part of the Great Eastern Railway (GER) opened a double track railway between Stratford and Loughton. A single-track extension between Loughton and Ongar was added in 1865.

Great video Eric! I followed the progress of the Epping-Ongar in the railway papers and it was quite an undertaking. So nice to see a quite pretty part of the country but not far from the suburbs. An interesting point, the '0 Point' for the whole Tube network starts at Ongar; that wasn't in the railway papers! The Fish'n'Chip Train looks to be a good afternoon or evening out package. Lovely shots of the 53 stock...maybe a battery unit on the other end...? A Fun Video and a nice, laid back, day out. Nice one. Keep safe, sir. Thanks!

Looks a most excellent day out! Must get over there myself sometime soon. Lovely to see the real L92 at work. Have a Bachmann model of L92 (aka “Preston”) on my layout which is one of my favourites and was a “must have” buy! Used to live near Preston Road on the Met during the 1960s and can remember the LT Panniers chugging up and down!

It’s always the station yards that are so interesting. Personally I’d linger longer in Ongar…
@UndergroundEric
@UndergroundEric 2 года назад
I had a nosey in Ongar for a bit, but it was while nothing was running, plus you cant access the yard on foot sadly. When you go to Ongar on the train you only have 10-15 mins to linger until the train is ready to depart again

I remember hopping off school in the late 70's and getting an all day pass for the bus and underground. Used to travel all over the bus and underground network. When feeling very adventurous we would take the train out on that section of line. It does indeed seem strange seeing it like it is now. Glad the section was saved, to be used once again by train services. In a way it is the opposite to the Isle of Wight, where once ran steam hauled trains, now they have underground trains! I love the history of the steam times on the island, just a bit too young to remember BR steam though, but do very clearly remember the old 1926 standard underground stock that run on the island during my childhood and beyond. Then of course the 38 stock. But now they have of course gone, replaced by the old 'D' stock units, albeit somewhat changed.
@UndergroundEric
@UndergroundEric 2 года назад
Thanks for the comment, that sounds awesome. I wish id been around to experience it all in service really. Its gutting! As you say its just so good that it was saved ect. As for the island line… lot of love for that little place!

Hi Eric. What is meant by the Zero Point for the London Underground, please? You seemed to have a fantastic day and I would love to go. I loved the shot of sparks coming from the chimney of L92! If I see Howard and say "Eric sent me", do you think I would get a cabride (LOL)?

Its the point from which the track mileages on the underground are measured from. Ha, we had an advantage in the fact that me and james are both train drivers with PTS ect 🙂👌🏼 L92 though, what a loco!

@@UndergroundEric no worries mate - thanks very much for the great video! The one unfortunate element of the spitfire flights, is that they cost around half a million pounds to maintain per year - hence the experience flight cost of £2500...

@@UndergroundEric absolutely, Duxford is well worth a visit. I'm extremely privileged to have done a small amount of ground crewing this year at Duxford on a couple of spitfires, and it's consistently amazed me the dedication of the peeps that actually own and fly these beautiful aircraft. Won't it be impossible for old LU stock trains to run in this line - as they'd need fourth rail?!?. The existing tracks (which would have been similar to the original tracks) aren't electrified at all. They don't even have third rail. But as you may know, LU use 'fourth rail' lines. I would love to see old Central line stock on the E & O line again, but they'd need to figure out what type of electrification they would use. As diesel electric locos also presumably cannot run on this line.
@UndergroundEric
@UndergroundEric 11 месяцев назад
LU vehicles can and have been towed along before by wedgelock coupler fitted locos or with match wagons, no reason a diesel electric loco cannot be used, they do often. Only thing is the rail heights have been lowered to accomodate the mainline stock

@henrybest4057
@henrybest4057 2 года назад
The footbridge is one of many (nearly) identical ones that were on GER stations. They were built, from a standard kit of parts, to suit the location, so it may not be the one Hornby used for its model, just its twin.
