Epson Ecotank Printer ET-3760 Review - Watch BEFORE you buy!

Today we’re looking at the Epson EcoTank 3760 wireless, duplex, color inkjet printer, and scanner from Epson.
They’ve broken the mold with this one. It prints well, very economically, and has some very forward-thinking features as well. On the other hand, it’s missing things that you may have appreciated in the past like a USB port, SD card slot, or touchscreen interface. I do recommend this printer for family use and high volume printing needs with a low cost-per-print: color or black and white.

This is the perfect review for us. I also homeschool my pre-schoolers and have had it with our brother printer. After using up not even half the ink in the cartridge, it stops printing and I get a low ink message. I've spent so much money on ink these past two years, I could have bought two new ecotanks. I'll be picking mine up at Costco tomorrow, crossing my fingers it's in stock.

@@tommyharris5817 no issues , we went with the 3760. I’ve printed a full year of first and pre-k curriculum. A homeschool planner, budget planner and three unit studies. It hasn’t even made a dent in the amount of ink. Also, copying has been a breeze with the top loader.

The ink tank system appears to be much better than the cartridge system ru-vid.comUgkxciSwynMJ7PnUvvx11rewiu-yFBkZTl53 and a lot cheaper to run. The machine was easy to set up. A small point but I thought they'd be a USB cable included to help with the set up but there was none. I've been using it now for a few weeks and it seems like a good product and superior to my previous printers which were all troublesome HP machines.

This review was actually the driving force that brought me to buy one of the pro models (ET-5800) for my office where we print about 5000-10000 pages per month. It was supposed to be a supplement to my large black and white laser copier but the running costs are so much lower I might be supplementing it with a second and phasing out the copier the next time it breaks. The paper input tray and output tray are a bit small for the 100-150 page print jobs we do at our office and the print speed advertised is not realistic at all. But besides those issues which we can work around, I love this thing.
@tookitogo
@tookitogo 2 года назад
I’ve been eyeing those models myself (for home, because I want a duplexing ADF). Did you get a color one, or one of the black and white models they sell? As for speed: if you look at the European website, do the print speeds listed there match our experience? (As I understand it, the EU mandates print speed specs based on a standardized real-world test document. I’m curious as to how accurate it is…)
@qwikz28
@qwikz28 2 года назад
@@tookitogo mine is color. It's a great printer thus far. I've been very happy with it. My only gripe is the paper trays. They are small and poorly designed. If you fill them to capacity, they will jam. And it will sometimes grab multiple sheets so you'll have random blank paper in your document. As for speed, it's hard to tell because the advertised speed is for 5% coverage and I rarely print with such little on a page. I don't find it to be a problem though. Color is much slower though, so I do regret not paying more for the 5850
@tookitogo
@tookitogo 2 года назад
@@qwikz28 Epson _still_ doesn’t have reliable paper feed?!? I remember my old Epson from over 20 years ago having that issue. My Canons never had problems. As for speed: I thought the 5850’s claim to fame (compared to the 5800) is having the same print speed in color as in black and white?
@qwikz28
@qwikz28 2 года назад
@@tookitogo that's my understanding. The color seems to go at half speed on mine.

Thanks, this is a good start for my search for a new printer. I bought what I hope will be the last of the ink cartridges while I search for an ink saving printer. I have zero tech knowledge but I know I'm spending a stooopid amount for ink. This gives me an idea of what to consider like print quality (important) and paper capacity (not so important) and auto feed (kind of important). 🤪

I picked mine up at Costco. I was underwhelmed with print quality on the default setting and the slow speed of the scanner. I have an epson ecotank printer, I love it. You have to make sure you don't let lots of paper stack up where the paper comes out, or it can jam. Once it jams, I have to run a 'print head cleaning test' and a 'printer alignment test', which is a pain. But it is so much cheaper on using for the cost / price of ink. The ink last really long and is not that expensive to replace. Yes the little led screen is such a pain, and so small. Why they could not put in a bigger screen is beyond me. WOW I like your big fluffy beard. Shaving is such a pain in the neck - literally. I forgot about the daisy wheel.

Good question! Right now we did 400 black and 700 color with only 15% black used. Since black is used during color prints as well that means roughly 7,333 mix prints per black and color mixed. At $49 for a refill kit that’s about $.007 per page so very cheap. And my wife was printing a TON of mixed use pages. Black alone could probably squeak out even more.

It was informative. The ending made me wonder what I missed. Actually watched a second time. Left me asking myself, would I buy it? My last printer was an epson. Jets got plugged up. It too had one print head that I really couldn't get to to clean out and it had just the ink cartridges without a print head. Mostly because i don't print constantly so there was a lot of sitting time between prints. Weeks at times. Also, you mentioned the previous cost of ink cartridges but i didn't hear you give a price for the refill ink. Quality of your video over all is very good though. If I was interested in the printer, I'd still have to research other features of it. Also compare it to less expensive hp premiers with similar features.

Thanks Randy! Very good point on sitting time. This Epson may suffer the same fate of many others where the non-replaceable printhead could dry out and be damaged - that is if my wife will ever stop printing on it for a second. Now I need to order more paper!

This is my concern with them - the late 90s/early 2000s Epsons clogged horribly if they weren’t kept in constant (daily!) use. I asked a guy at a store if they’ve been having trouble with clogging on these, since they’ve been out for a few years now, and he said no. If they clogged anywhere distantly as often as old Epsons, they’d know about it. Even so, it’s hard for me to forget just how bad the Epsons used to clog, so I may end up going for a Canon. (Never had permanent clogging problems on those, any clogs have always been cleared by, at worst, a “deep” nozzle cleaning cycle.) My current printer is a Canon from 2008, still going strong. (And I buy my ink in the classifieds, since people sell off their spare ink for peanuts once their old printer dies. So I’m printing at essentially the same cost as the ecotank/megatank printers now!)

I had a Epson 3640 all in one printer I got a deal on at Costco. I liked it but had the same issues you did. The default print mode looked faded and even the best mode was merely ok and used more ink. I finally got it looking good and it ran out of ink and would cost a lot to buy new cartridges. I got a aftermarket continues ink system and I had to redo all my tweaks. I realized it was using non pigment ink so I ordered pigment ink for when it ran out. After about a year of using it when I needed to print something out the heads started clogging. Then the black cartridge head thing plugged and wouldn't print so I bought another setup as it was cheap and I had ink. The print head started plugging again due to long idle times between print jobs and removing and properly cleaning it is very hard. I used to have a Ancient HP 990 high end straight printer, and yes every time I bought new cartridges it had a new print head built in. I also started buying rebuilt cartridges and they worked great, and you could knock out the fill plugs and refill them about 5 times before the cartridge just stopped working. I could let it sit forever as long as it was turned on and had ink and it would just print beautifully. If it did plug I'd pull the cart and clean it up with alcohol and it would start printing again. I finally couldn't find good rebuilt or new carts anymore so bought the Epson wf 3640. I don't trust Epson anymore with my use case so found a HP that has easily removable print heads, instant ink, if you care, and does everything. It printed better in standard mode than the Epson did with all my tweaks and only got better with some minor changes. Ink is expensive but there are excellent quality after market inks for it and with two sets of cartridges you can refill one set at a time and save a ton of money. I got the 9018 Costco version, after being very happy with it I upgraded to the 9025 version that has two paper trays and is faster but the same cartridge and engine as the cheaper version. I think as long as you use Epson printers every day and keep it on they work great, but you can't let them sit the ink dries up and clogs the heads badly. I'd certainly be interested in your updates with time and if they ever offer a unit with ink tanks and a easily removable print head for cleaning I might try them again

I just bought this printer- very long to set up , but follow the setup directions , need to download software & the setup would have been quicker.. love how it prints & I’m a junk journal scrapbooker & wanted to print digital which prints on cardstock( Epsom premium heavy paper & accent paper works perfect. Walmart cardstock was great also, so I’m glad we bought this printer.. saving on ink is a must & their technical support team on Epsom is great .Great deal at Costco also for an ecotank color printer..one negative was that there is no instruction manual - need to download over 100 pages- I’ll just download a few..

Its so funny because here in the Philippines, Epson already sold in the market these type of ink tank printers since 2011. It seems like its just nowadays 2021, 10 years later that USA is having their hands in theese type of printers. Epson L100, L200 and L800 were the pioneer models of ink tank models.

Good day, I'm only @1:02 so far and have the following issue/question for you. Years ago, I purchased a "ecotank" type printer whereas the ink was in a main refill tank and the ink was fed to the print heads via thin surgical type tubing. Since I don't use the printer often/regular. I found that the ink would begin a drying and crystallization process in both the tubing and the print head and thus the unit failed to print! IS THIS THE SAME CONCERN TODAY AND SPECIFICALLY, A PROBLEM WITH THIS UNIT?? ALSO, I HAVE HEARD OF OTHER PRINTERS FAILING TO PRINT OR EVEN SCAN IF ONE OF THE INK TANKS ARE EMPTY. IS THIS A CONCERN WITH THE MODEL 3760 HERE? Cheers

Would this be a printer I could use with only my iPhone? I live out in the boonies and the two companies who provide internet in my area are insanely expensive and the internet is awful so we only have the hot spot from our phones. I would love to get one of these and am scratching my head trying to figure out if these can be set up and used without having to connect them to a router. I bought a little HP that advertised you could use it wirelessly and then you had to have both your phone and your printer connected to wifi (not from your phone) in order to work, so now I’m wondering if it is even possible 😅 you seemed like a good person to ask.

We were at Costco today and bought one (before watching your review). The price of ink is what made us buy. It does the basic printing and that's what we need. Now to return the spare ink cartridges we no longer need to keep for the HP this is replacing. THAT will pay for part of this printer.

They replaced the ink scam, with the "reset ink pad" scam. Don't buy this garbage, and demand Right to Repair from your useless politicians. I shouldn't need to pay a russian hacker $10 to reset the ink pad after changing or cleaning it.

@@JohnDoe-fs6tk What's the "ink pad" deal? Cost, frequency, and ease of swap?
@JohnDoe-fs6tk
@JohnDoe-fs6tk 2 года назад
@@737smartin It's just typical J highway robbery. Using DRM and DMCA to prevent Hardware Repairs. Artificial life limit. You pay the hack dev 10 bucks, get code, reset counter. Just make sure you cleaned the waste pads or installed a printer potty type bucket. I got like 100 printouts, but had to run the head cleaning a lot, which fills the waste ink pads fast (as well as the digital time bomb)
@JohnDoe-fs6tk
@JohnDoe-fs6tk 2 года назад
@@737smartin In addition to my previous reply, Epscam won't let you reset your ink pad counter. They deny having the ability (direct, blatant lie). They want you to spend at minimum 1/3 the price of the printer to "repair" what you can fix yourself for 10 bux and 5 minutes of time.
