Great stuff! I'm probably around the intermediate to advanced level. I've been mixing for a worship team for about a year and a half, and it's a good mix but I still have a lot to learn. Also, I'm actually an Eagles fan lol. May the best team win 👍

Excellent EQ tutorial James. My live mix for our Church Livestream is going much better. I'm over the hard setup stage with my new in the box workflow and getting Studio One working well. I like that idea on the EQ narrow cut with a broader additive to smooth it in. I'll grade myself intermediate advanced. If we get our EQ settings wrong, it Hertz. PS I can't unhear the BBQ fork. When I open my plug-in effects rack next Sunday, I'm going to be thinking about BBQ forks. Thanks in advance. 🙂

IS there any data/stats on HOW people who watch a Livestream church service on RU-vid actually listen to it? I mean, predominantly earpods? Their computer/iPad's speakers? Headphones? I wonder because what they use for listening can affect how you EQ the audio stream for best sound. thanks for any info .. great vids!
@eugenesidelnyk4600
@eugenesidelnyk4600 Год назад
Are you doing all the EQ stuff listening to what comes out of your speakers, or do you do it with your headphones? For instance, if you are about to eq kick drum, you can't just mute everything else in order to focus on drums. When you have full mix playing out from speakers, it's pretty hard to focus on whatever you are currently trying to mix. From other hand, it doesn't seem to be possible to eq stuff from headphones, since sound you hear from speakers differ from what's in your headphones. How do you EQ on live service and on rehearsal?
@AttawayAudio
@AttawayAudio Год назад
I don't use headphones in live sound very often. No one else hears what the headphones sound like. I don't solo either. But if I have to, I can duck other things using DCAs to highlight certain things. But the real key is to listen to things and EQ in context.

@chadgrieser8021

somewhere between a beginner and intermediate levels. To move forward, I need to have an actual worship team to run sound for. It is hard to work on my craft when there is only the pastor speaking and doing worship videos to.
@ChaitanyaBhagwatChai
@ChaitanyaBhagwatChai Год назад
A great way to train your skills is to try your hand at mixing a multitrack. Even if the workflow is different, it'll train your ear on what you should be looking out for, and it'll teach you how to address the problems you hear. If you want to learn for a live environment, you can purposefully limit yourself in a saw to have channel processing similar to the console you're working on, e.g. EQ and compressor on every channel, and maybe a bus reverb.

Before you boost or take away will the position of those eq dots matter where they sit? When it's flat?
@AttawayAudio
@AttawayAudio Год назад
When there's no gain change, the position of the frequency selection doesn't matter at all. I only put them in certain places so I can quickly grab that frequency when I want it, if I need to make a change on the fly.
@AttawayAudio
@AttawayAudio 11 месяцев назад
If the gain is 0, the frequency point doesn't change the audio, but it can make you get to the frequency you want to faster.

I'm confused with ur tips, "narrow cut, wide boost" for EQ. In the other video you cut vocal sound in 200 and 500 with wide Q. Can you please explain?
@AttawayAudio
@AttawayAudio Год назад
it's a guideline, not a rule. Sometimes you need a general cut like the low shelf or wide bell curve to cut out the proximity effect.
@joshuasue2558
@joshuasue2558 Год назад
@@AttawayAudio thank you! Do you have video that talk about proximity effect in detail? I learned a lot from ur videos, I'm blessed thank you

We have a StudioLive 32S and wondered if there is a way to use a footswitch to turn the effects on/off. This board does NOT have channel inserts.
@AttawayAudio
@AttawayAudio Год назад
when you mean effects, do you mean the reverb & delay sends/returns? If so, you can program a User Function key to act as a mute group for the effects returns. Or I prefer to have it on a DCA so I can fade it rather than cut it.
@johnwilson7809
@johnwilson7809 Год назад
@@AttawayAudio Yes, the built in effects. We don't have a sound guy, so shutting off the reverb with a footswitch between songs allows for better talking to the audience.
