I think you didn't watch far enough into the video...there was actual audio played including the before and after of the acoustic adjustments. Additionally, this was for house mix, not livestream mix. What we hear on a video like this would only be representative of the transmitter microphone that picks up the room sounds and the earphones, or speakers with with a viewer would hear.

His comment about how microphones add tons of bass from the proximity affect is so important. Removing low end from vocals will clean the mix up so much. It sounds weird at first in isolation, but in a mix you need space in the low end for the instruments

Only just saw James stuff yesterday...reaaaallly good stuff James. Once again reminding us in essence to use ears :-) AND get singers to have great technique (like Eivor...let the musician respect mic tech as part of their instrument and become responsible)...this is so important ;-) Having the mixer manage dynamics is not ideal; this is the craft of the band. Getting the singers to respect by not whispering during sound check is important although some do without realising but others with intent...get what I mean...the responsibility needs to be in growing in professional attitude and actions despite most being volunteers. Just some points; the HP is DEFINITELY better applied less aggressively with an LF down for the actual prox but HP is really just about RT60 low end bleed mic bleed issues as far as I have found in live music We do need to take in account context...if you have a minimal band setup, a 24db shave of the bottoms of a bass/baritone male will destroy it (lower fundamentals start at 80hz). For really moving forward in various situations we need use great reference tracks and play them in the venue...eg for difficult male vox as just described I use Jack Johnson "Sleeping through the static"...this is one one of the best ways to become confident in choices and top end works like this are super solid in getting amazing live mixes; no bottom end HP hacks and it sounds amazing and full Would be great to tut/highlight using sidechain for compression for context...this is the REAL game changer for sub/bass and voice, acoustic guitar and also takes complete care of solo space A good thing to use is a note/freq/time reference sheet eg 20ms attack (depending on model constants/release etc) is pretty much G1. This is from a spreadsheet I use where you can see, the 20ms is a whole period of approx 50hz, as it descends lower it will progressively reduce the openness of the notes below it, so the sub will allow 1 full 'pump'/period of the bass and the kick is similar but this is why sidechaining is the next step in getting a punchy and uncluttered foundation Note/Oct Note Num Freq Frequency ms G1 31 49 48.999 20.41 Measuring the nodes in the room will let you know what you are really trying to control in the lows so tightening may be directed more towards eg 40hz etc What this tells us also, is that in the low end eg 200 - 400 slices removed for the keys is really going to create bumps and is where broad cut is actual more important because you are moving the whole range of left hand playing mud basically over 1 octave where its more like 2 for most keys players...single frequencies might just create more issues and on top of this, compromises have to be made based on key and actual instrument resonance as James was mentioning. BTW if you are still getting plosives on a live mic...its time to change to something that is properly engineered in regards to pop protection. Great presentation!!! Really good

12 or 24 db at 250 Hz makes the male vocal sound very thin! I would go for a better vocal performance with a better microphone. RE 20 or SM 7 would my go too for reducing proxmity effect. 40 years for broadcast voice work is my background for great sounding voice.

So many little changes... but none of it is relevant at all without being able to HEAR the difference those changes make... as you make them. It's going to be completely different for every source/band out there. I think that if you do this again, it would be much more useful to run some recorded rehearsal or something through the system so the changes have context! ...IMHO of course ;)

Does god insist that we worship him? Did god create the universe to have creatures who would worship him? I may never understand all that. So many people just do it. Why? I live my life to have fun and be good to others. The worship part doesn't make sense to me. I imagine being at the gates after death and being judged. What will count the most? The number of times that I attended church/synagogue/ or other house of worship, or how good I was to others? I think church attendance will not count at all because it is only a hypocritical way to get points. Sound funny? Well the whole religion thing is funny.

@allanmck
@allanmck Год назад
Being good doesn't make a difference either. It's not being good that gets you into heaven at all. On your own even your good deeds are counted as tainted rubbish. In fact, the Bible doesn't say the payment for being bad is to be good. That's a man made idea. It simply says if you do bad it costs death. The is the whole point of christianity - that we can't do anything at all to save ourselves. Once we die in sin we pay for it eternally in that death. So then... how? A death was actually paid, by somebody who actually didn't deserve it. On our behalf. God himself in the second person, Jesus, as he died on the cross offering that payment to absolutely anybody who would accept it by belief for their own payment. All that is required is for us to believe and accept that it was for us personally. Everything else is a response to that. All the good works you talk about, the doing good things to others, the not doing bad anymore... those are simply the response to already being counted guiltless. A response of thanks and desire to obey God. None of that response earns us anything towards being counted guiltless, by payment of the death. It isn't paid by us at all and never could have been. And that brings us back to worship. Worship is regularly mentioned in the Bible as a response of thankfulness to God. Both what he deserves to receive and also what we desire to give.
