In this second tutorial about Equalizers we're looking at the difference in equalizer-circuitry and at the difference between analogue and digital equalizers.
What is the influence of the sample-rate on the eq?

I was just put in charge of our company's audio visual program and I needed a crash course on audio. Your videos are exactly what I needed! You're a great teacher! You make it fun and easy. Thanx.

Bro, these series are amazing. I’ve been producing for over a decade and have seen many tutorial videos over the years (which are typically people just talking, using plugins in real time), and can say that after all these years, I still learned very valuable things from watching these video series. I love how you bring out high quality visual graphics when needed (I.e. mic placements on instruments/speakers to explain phase shifts in some of your other vids). Thank you for the time you put into making these🙏 The videos are very well made and a great source for an introduction to audio and all its complexities. Truly appreciated!

cant believe you have such few views. I've learned more from watching your videos (all this morning) than I have through listening to a professor teach me this stuff in college. Cheers man

Hi Satrio, In theory a passive EQ is only capable of applying a cut. What it does, it attenuates all frequencies with the same amount. If we 'boost frequencies' on a band, these are actually cut less than the others. On the output there is an output-gain which boosts all frequencies evenly back to the input level. So now the frequencies that had 'less boost' are now actually gained, and frequencies we have attenuated more with the EQ-controls are now attenuated. Hope this helped! Cheers.

Hi, yeah I did go to school for that, and besides that I also have done much studying for myself as well. Plus I have been a lecturer for an Audio Engineering school for a couple of years as well.. -Standing in front of the class and teaching in the studios, etc..

Your English pronunciation is pretty good (better than mine probably). Still, some words you say, reveal that you must be Dutch.

English with a Dutch accent really is one of the easiest recognisable out there. It's really amusing, since there's no way you can be wrong if someone is Dutch when you hear the way of pronouncing :D

I am using the Sonitus EQ in Sonar. What would be the best settings for drums / Guitars and Vocals for me to get the best results from this EQ ... thanks

Regarding noise, the comparison of passive and active EQ is not quite accurate. The insertion loss (attenuation of all frequencies) of passive EQ's is achieved via resistive elements in the circuit, and these resistors generate noise. By applying make-up gain after the EQ, the noise will be boosted, amounting to overall higher levels than an active EQ.

Also don't forget Ableton's very capable EQ8 has the ability to turn on oversampling to double the sample rate of the signal coming in before processing it, and then downsampling it again after processing is complete. Right click on the top bar to access it in the menu. Live 8 called it "high quality" mode, while Live 9 calls it "oversample". Peace!

Nice vids man! I was thinking that it can be interesting if u develop more in other videos how Analog Eqs works, electronicly speaking. And digital ones too, what are the algorithms, what really happens to the phase when we use them. Thanks, and sorry for my poor english :)

Most music comes from analog recordings anyway unless your recording a drum machine type music then what is the point .
