I wish there was something like eqprotect for my area. I would be very comforting to know my old horse would be safe

My horse - also named Sal (Salvador, an Andalusian) - had colic due to a strangulating lipoma. Unfortunately, the lipoma was much closer to the stomach and we are about a 2 hour drive to the nearest equine hospital. By the time we got to surgery, about 75 percent of the small intestine was non-viable with little to no chance for a favorable outcome. My hope is that one day we have a way to discover the presence of lipomas before they cause damage. Today, however, there's little or no way to see them coming. My horse was up and his normal happy self but after his morning hay, it was only an hour before he was down and in pain. Lessons learned, but little we can do. This medical team really impressed me. My vet also was an is excellent, but too much time elapsed (3-4 hours) and that was all it took.

how common is a strangulated lipoma

It’s is most commonly seen in older horses.
