Christopher Paolini is taking us back to Alagaesia with a new installment in his "Inheritance" cycle, focused on the arguably much cooler character, Murtagh!
But it's been a minute since he wrote an Inheritance book. What all happened in the last one, and what did it matter? Hang with me as I read off the summaries and jog your memory! To the skies!

The first four books feels like a DnD campaign. I loved the way the books were broken up into different perspectives. We get to follow Eragon, Roran, Nasuada, Arya, which helps break up the long descriptions and keeps the pace moving. My favorite parts were the scenes with Murtaugh and Nasuada in inheritance but I also thought dwarf politics were cool too. So I guess my favorite part is the last half of brisinger and the first half of inheritance.

I think the part about Roran creating a literal wall of bodies with nothing but a hammer sparked my love for hammer/ blunt weapons in video games. One thing that was different and absolutely stood out to me was when Eragon used magic to create large calluses on his hands so he’d stop breaking or injuring his hands while fighting.

I really enjoyed Eragon when I was young in middle school but didn't read Eldest until years later. I think you identified the pace in Eldest pretty well where we would go through Eragon and his training with Oromis which was a much calmer tone and then we would transition to Roran and the village's struggle for survival which was fast-paced, exciting, and full of danger. I liked how the author structured that. Maybe I should pick up Murtagh...

There was a killing spell he could use but apparently the fish could only be killed with a bone, not any other weapon. So it was a combination of things that ultimately allowed Murtagh to kill it.

I dont know if retcon is the correct word for how the books went. Brom hints at Eragon getting more extensive training hinting at a rider's existence. Murtagh belueves he and Eragon to have the same father because that is generally how lineage is traced and Galbatorix saw the connection, but the hints were there from the first book that Brom was Eragon's father.
@GrahamBradley
@GrahamBradley 5 месяцев назад
I thought about that a week or two after filming. It could be an argument, but it's probably more of a "Well, this would be a good twist and it's not impossible" type thing that came along later. I'm currently rereading Eragon with my son and I'm not really feeling the paternal vibes, but it could work.

Why is everyone always saying that everything copied Star Wars? Star Wars in and of it self is a copy of everything that George Lukas liked! It's also a basic Heros Journey and that has been around at least since the time of greek mythology😂 Eragon is also a Heros Journey and is inspired by a lot of older fantasy book series and that influence is also in Star Wars because that's just fantasy set in space! Yeah you can see a lot of different inspirations in Eragon ecpecially from Tolkien, all kinds of mythology and the Erdsea books as well and you can like that or not but don't say it's a rip off of Star Wars when Star Wars just copies a lot of different fantasy and since fiction stories themselves. Star Wars fans shouldn't act like there fandom is the most original of them all when it's just not. If you break it down every storie is just a repeat of other stories that have there been before that grew into their own worlds with time. Also keep in mind that the Author was very young when he wrote the first book so maybe give him some credit for writing a whole ass book at the age of 16 and then growing that into a very cohesive four book series with its own world building. No storie is perfect so don't look down on other peoples favorites. You can not like a thing and still not take the joy away from people who do.
@GrahamBradley
@GrahamBradley 6 месяцев назад
I'm not taking joy away from anyone, the whole reason I made this video was to get people hyped for Murtagh...which I did. The Star Wars comparison is just the most plainly obvious one. Most people have never heard of Joseph Campbell, or the Hero's Journey, so it'd be a weak reference to make. Chillax, friend.

Hey man, I know I’m just a random dude but I hope you hear me. I’m excited about the next book. I read them ages ago and had no idea a new one was coming. I also didn’t remember shit about them, past the story major anyway. I searched for a recap and several of them were styled as a podcast or angled at a single character. I chose this because it seemed straightforward. And objectively, it was. However, bro… my guy… it felt like you hated it the whole time. It was weird. I felt like my wife was spilling tea about someone. All kinds of exposition, but so much shade. If you wanted to critique, label it that. I went through the whole thing (I even liked it because I always try to help creators). But damn, it was so negative. If you don’t like them, don’t make a recap for people that might. Don’t yuck people’s yums. Unless it was expected, I guess. And you shit on lightbringer out of nowhere? Do you like any books? I don’t think you did a bad job of a recap. But I’d ask you to introspect about the negativity of the video. I’m going to read it. But that video did NOT motivate me to do it. If, perhaps, you had some positivity. Or even curiosity. You’d motivate people to read, then to come back to hear your thoughts. I’ll f*%k off now and leave you to your life. I just thought I’d try and push you in a more positive direction. Just for the videos. We are all depressed, go to therapy for that.
@GrahamBradley
@GrahamBradley 6 месяцев назад
Loved the first three, middling on the fourth, hated the fifth, Light Bringer was an improvement but didn't really accomplish much as far as moving the story forward. I generally don't do negative reviews (I made a video explaining why.) This year I made two videos where I was negative and those got thousands of views, whereas something normal on my tiny channel would get like...fifty. I'm just a dude who reviews books and this is what people responded to. I could lean way harder into the negativity since apparently that gets watch-hours (and therefore money) but that's not what I do. I only did this recap this way because of how frustrated I was with Dark Age and how hopeful I was that Light Bringer would return to form. (Because, once again, I loved the original trilogy. Still do.) Anyway, I read all kinds of stuff and cover it here. I'm not going to please everybody and I'm not trying to. I'm just a guy who likes books and always wants to find another really great one. I've taken a lot of heat from Red Rising fans over this video, it is what it is, but I will say that for someone who didn't like my take on it, you're diplomatic in your criticism, and that's always welcome here. So thanks. Have a merry Christmas.
