I thought being able to keep a straight face was something special. Agree 100% with that mate. Great minds in this tiny part of time in watching this and reading to replying to comments. Brains are amazing.
Yes. Absolutely. Same goes for André Preview. Incidentally, for the rest of André Previn’s life, every time he climbed into the back of a London taxi, the driver would say to him, “hello MrPreview” To which he would answer, “Privet!”
@@robbiebunge859 The 2 Ronnies had a few memorable scenes but Eric & Ernie will always be true legends of comedy and i defy anyone to watch a large compilation of clips and not laugh but watching these is impossible-you just can't keep a straight face. They are pure comic genius and far better than this alleged comedy you see today
@@morespywareforyou2262 I'm old enough and I remember him and Mick McMichael and Jacky Palo, Steve Vidor, Prince Kumali , Honey Boy Zimba and the others.
@@blighty3248 usually at 3pm ITN ....when I stayed with my gran in Belfast..... Wow betide you if you if you made a racket when the wrestling started😅😅😅
Do you know how I know this is timeless comedy? My seven year old son was giggling like crazy whenever Eric would talk with Ernie and slap his face or they would do a dance.
It always impressed me how Morecambe and Wise were able to get such big names to appear on their shows, including such luminaries as the classical conductor Andre Previn. It just shows what high regard they were held with.
Sitting dow (or laying on the floor for me) watching saturday night television during the 70's..... Morecambe and Wise, Two Ronnie's, Dick Emery and Parkinson.....I was 7 years old when this was first aired , if I remember correctly we had not long just had the third power cut of the weekend and christmas was looming....radio times was the must have guide....bloody hell I am old.
Yes you are right, and I must add only a British comic could do this 👏👏👏👏 Great Britain has such amazing comic Geniuses with amazing timing, Cooper, Benny hill, morecambe and Wise, two Ronnies, do you know I could go on all night, you know who they are 👏👏👏👏 British humour you just can’t beat it 🇬🇧
As most of us did, I grew up watching these two comedians quite regularly... M & W brought us some brilliant and silly sketches of our generation. May you two comics bring the house down wherever you go... Respect.👍
Eric was an absolute god of the comedy scene. I was born in 1973 and spent the first decade of my life watching everything I could of his. Got it all on DVD now 😁
Out of the many many times I've seen this sketch over the years, I never noticed the final genius line before. "Mr McManus, I'll never watch you wrestle again!"
Think I should have your RU-vid name - my name's Barry, and I was born in 1959. Sitting on the sofa - was it Saturdays or Sundays? - the highlight of the week waiting for Eric and Ern.
Comes from my last name and my mates calling me it most my life. It was Saturdays least as I recall in 70's. I was born in Norf London - you can be Bazza I'll be Basa..LOL
Interesting, too, that it was then still quite a novelty for famous celebrities to take part in such shows and be gently sent up. Andre Previn, Des O'Connor, Angela Rippon etc.
@@mitchell16 The timing makes it seem like a pre-arranged response to a question. Eric Morecambe was able to make even the tritest joke a masterpiece of comedy.
LOL! Love the questions... Even though they are supposed to be general knowledge questions, they are all themed towards their level of education! 😅 Ernie, being Professor of English literature is asked questions all relating to literature, Eric on the other hand, being educated at Infants School - his first question is about a nursery rhyme! 😂
I remember when Magnus announced his retirement .. it hit all the headlines .. Magnus was an institution!! I used to sit and watch the show .. and if i got 5 answers correct .. i was really chuffed :):):)
I remember seeing this when it was first shown. I nearly shocked laughing. british tv at the time was in a golden age with regard comedy and this act sat at the top with the two ronnie's.
Brilliant ... Magnus Magnuson misidentified - @ 5:34 "Mr McManus I'll never watch you wrestle again" ... Mr (Mick) McManus was a British professional wrestler of the time :-)
OMG, I haven’t seen this probably since it aired. These two gave (and give) me unending joy. My family took Erics (and the end of M&W) death as personal bereavement. Erics face here when he sees that Ernie is answering such difficult questions correctly early on. RIP M&W
As always, perfect timing and delivery from eric but also faultless back up from ernie..superb sketch.I think what always came across with these two was the love and respect for each other as well as the joint ambition to make each sketch as good as it could possibly be ,regardless of who got the funny lines.Thankyou for sharing this with us,Ratpackmanreturns, as you say ABSOLUTE CLASS !!!!!!
I'm 32, African born from Fulham. my go-to for comedy's will always be the golden oldies, porridge /only fools /Morecombe & wise / 2 ronnies / rab c / on the buses /. modern telly's gone all wrong 😕
AND THAT IS, MOSTLY THANKS TO THE LOONY PC BRIGADE. BRITAIN HAS ALWAYS BEEN A BAWDY NATION, WITH A HIGH DEGREE OF NAUGHTY INNUENDO, BUT NOT OUTRIGHT OBSCENETY. BUT THAT'S ALL WE HAVE TODAY, AND BLOODY BORING IT IS TOO.
I got banned from a comedy club in Edinburgh for being racist. All I did was walk onstage and say "thank you ladies and gentlemen it's great to be back in England". Everybody else in Scotland gets the joke. lol
Love how Morcambe keeps saying "Put another one up for me" and the host says, "Correct" so he can score, plus how nervous he looks as Wise is racking up the points with correct answers.
Now you understand issues I got so many have 2000+ humour but mine is like 1950-1990 humour even though born later (said 1990 as 1986 or something is last lot I heard of that I know year of but unsure on last number)
I don't know why it linked me this, seen it before many times including this very video, but I could do with cheering up and this never fails! Two Legends! Thanks!
Like all their guests Magnus Magnuson show's he's a brilliant sport and an untapped comedy genius given Morcambe and Wise's comedy genius and writers .
