Years and years ago, when my ex abruptly walked out on me. I thought that it was the end of the world for me. I was in such a dark place I used to listen to this song and most times I did indeed cry. Fast forward a few years, then I met the one, my one true love, the love of my life. We've been together for 3 years and we fall in love over and over every day. What we have is so special and we are so happy together. If I ever think about my ex. I feel nothing but gratitude because if she didn't leave, I would never have met my beautiful and sweet wife. My heart is full of empathy for those who are sad and are going through tough times. But please know that everything happens for a reason. And that the future is bright and the time will come when you'll be happy and your heart will vibrate from love and joy. Hang in there, friend.

The story is actually sadder in more ways than the "obvious" tragedy. I mean, imagine being the new girl in his life. You'd think everything was perfect between you. You like the man he has shown himself to be - caring, attentive, affectionate and you absolutely see a future with him. You're in love. You're happy, glowing even...yet completely oblivious to the fact he doesn't really see the same in you. You're good for him, because you help to distract him from his grief. But you probably won't be enough to help him past it. You're enough to settle for - but not live for. The worst thing is - you don't realise you're settling, too. You are not the love of his life and you never will be. I know we can't all be each other's great loves - some of us do tend to settle simply for the comfort of companionship. Whether is be "ships that pass in the night", unrequited love or just growing apart. Circumstances just get in the way or we do, sometimes. But that part of the story used to wreck me as a kid - still does. sigh.
