Long before I even considered WFPB, I gave up dairy and with it my life long asthma and allergies disappeared. Additionally, high fat meals cause constant mucus throat due to GERD.

That was 9 years ago and never had another Losec since. Losec also has very negative effects on the body. With so many dairy free options these days we are very lucky. Plus dairy leeches calcium from the body as its proteins affect human kidneys.

I used to be extremely mucus-y, I always had to have tissue in my pocket, and I'd cough up phlegm like crazy. I haven't been since I went plant based. I think maybe it slowed before that, but even then, I think I was consuming less meat and dairy than I had before. And before anyone asks, no, I've never smoked tobacco, and I've barely smoked any marijuana in my life, so the mucus wasn't caused by smoke.

I am again and again suprised how some internet people can just turn make any scientific claim that they like and ignore the research entirely even if it literally states the exact opposite of what they are saying. From personal experience, as some people value that more than studies and research, I can say that since I went on a whole food plant based diet I have never had less mucus in my throat as I do now. Not only that the last time I had a cough also lies between 4 - 5 years in the past.

It certainly wasn't nice and I did get some bronchitis, but "normally" I would still have it now and keep coughing until October-November. I think it was Mic who mentioned saturated fat being bad for lungs? My recent experience with reflux and what I thought were allergies has led me to discover that acid reflux can, sadlly, be caused by all sorts of foods that are high in acid and plant-based including my beloved dark chocolate and balsamic vinegar, citrus, and other foods. So a person can be plant-based (100% vegan) for many years and still experience GERD and other types of reflux. Dr. Aviv has some great information on this and even did an interview with Chef AJ. I also thought my smoothies were giving me GERD but then stopped drinking them with a straw and most of the symptoms vanished. So if you have GERD and drink with a straw you may want to try drinking without a straw. Thanks, Mic, for addressing this issue and presenting the research behind it.

I had even watched his video on Insulin resistance thought made sense till I came across Cyrus Khambatta and when he Explained how Insulin resistance happens I was like Whao this most logical explanation fats, Added Refined Sugars, etc lead to cell inflammation causing insulin resistance. Though recently I have got rid of Added Sugars, Sweets high in Fats & Refined Sugars, Artificial Sweetners and Started eating Whole Vegetables and fruits making salads I have lost 9 Kgs currently. Though I am yet to get rid of Oils, Dairy, Coconut, Refined Grains and Refined Flours as it's common in Indian diet. Thanks a Lot for the Video though I never ate Eggs in my life nor omelette yet I used to have a positive view of Eggs that they are ok for health and are good etc your video Eric Berg's Egg with all the Studies of Meta Analysis on Eggs in Diet has completely changed my views it's Shocking that Eggs itself cause High Mortality rates. I never eaten White or Red Meats as I already get Fiber and Vitamins from Fruits and vegetables. I was also Bought into Keto Diet is Great blah blah by a Documentary called Fat Fiction which Advocated High Fat Low Carb diet. Yet I wasn't liking of feeling good about Even the thought of Eating Animals for the diet thought about Vegan Keto which I Could afford however Thankfully Carbohydrates Documentary by BBC with Xand Van Tulleken changed my Perception that Carbohydrates especially Fiber Rich and Starch are not bad for health we can eat Carbohydrates in a way it works for our health. Then I looked into Whole Grains and Legumes saw that they are great at Preventing Chronic Diseases and not as bad as is made out in Keto Diet. Since Then I am a High Carbohydrates fan 💪💪 then I came across the Okinawa, Kitavan, and Rural China diets shocked that they never had Any chronic illnesses yet they are 60-75% Carbohydrates Rich Diet occasionally Non Veg. This Completely got Rid of The Keto is great perception currently I am looking more into Videos from Cyrus Khambatta and Mastering Diabetes and also planning to buy their book Mastering Diabetes. I have convinced my Parents for Whole Grains organically grown to be buy in market instead of Refined Grains. Now I have to convince my parents about Oils, High Fat High sugar Sweets, Dairy, and coconuts. I am Pre Diabetic and my parents are Type 2 Diabetic. I had GERD for a couple of years. I had to sleep on my back and not eat anything before sleeping to avoid acid reflux episodes. I never noticed any mucus problem. My doctor thought I had a Hiatal hernia. After I switched to a vegetarian diet and lost 75 lbs the problem went completely away. Either my Hiatal hernia somehow fixed itself or I never had one in the first place. Maybe fat around my stomach was squishing it in a way that made something not work properly.

My sister was recently diagnosed with pre-diabetes, and is now on a nutrition learning kick, but what she's learning is conflicting with my research. She listened to a diabetes talk with a couple doctors on zoom today, and I listened in. They were bashing grains because they're high in carbohydrates. My question is, what are your thoughts on grains for diabetic people, brown rice and quinoa more specifically? She says brown rice is not healthy to consume a lot of, because of the high glycemic load, with a glycemic index higher than her doctor recommends (nothing over 40 GI). Sorry, I know this is a little unrelated, but curiosity struck, and I value your opinion.

I suffered from GERD for years, and it wasn't until I started a food journal that I could figure out what triggered it. In the end, it was Ketchup, I have no idea what it is in ketchup that triggers it, but I cut out ketchup and haven't had GERD since. I am not vegan, and I am not a carnivore, but I have tracked foods that cause me issues, and have cut them out of my diet, as I have moved along my health journey, I have been able to lose a lot of weight, and get all of my health screening factors much better. I have been able to stop taking most of my medication, and I just feel better. Can people eat meat and be healthy? Yes. Can people eat vegetables and be healthy? Yes. I think both communities should be able to admit, if you cut out overly processed foods and eat whole foods, you can be healthy.

Have you looked into the research on L Rueteri? Most of us are missing this bacteria in our micro biome and in studies (human and animal) it has shown to dramatically increase collagen production. It made me wonder if the reason people in the US feel like they need crazy high levels of protein and collagen is due to our depleted microbiome. Anyway, it’s interesting. There are likely other bacteria that have gone extinct that help make collagen and tons of other beneficial things.

I remember watching Berg's episode on esophogeal issues and was frustrated that he was blaming grains.... he seems to bash grains a lot in general... but there was one little helpful hint in his list of foods to eat for relieving these issues and that was to eat arugula. It does help to eat a few leaves when the symptoms appear. Thanks for clarifying that it's fats - usually animal fats - that aggravate the condition.

I'd like you to do a video on whether it's really worth taking probiotics if you don't have acute diarrhea. I took a gut health test from the company formerly known as Thryve and then took their recommended probiotics and then retested and my gut health score actually went way down. I stopped taking them needless to say. I've seen you recommending probiotic sponsors such as Seed but now I'm thinking it's better to just focus on eating lots of prebiotics in the form of a wide variety of whole(ish) plant foods.

I had chronic sinus and throat mucous for a decade. It was always aggravated after eating meat, dairy and oils. After going on a no oil, whole plant food diet, the mucous stopped. I do notice a little flare up after eating wheat (even whole ground from wheat berries), which is likely due to the gluten. Other grains like rice, oats, quinoa, bulgur wheat and bean pasta do not have any effect on stimulating mucous. So it's saturated oils and fats that are the worst for mucous production but also gluten.

From Int Journal of Cancer, Sept 15, 2011- "Our data suggested that total fat, saturated fat, and monounsaturated fat intakes were adversely associated with the risk of RE and EAC. Plant-based fats (e.g. polyunsaturated fat) were not associated with RE or BE, but there was a suggestion of an adverse association with EAC risk. Cholesterol intake was also found to be a risk factor for EAC. Meat intakes were not associated with the majority of the case groups, although omitting processed meat from the total red meat intake variable (fresh red meat variable) resulted in a significantly positive association being reported for EAC. Processed meat intake was adversely associated with RE only." ( RE- Reflux Esophagitis; BE-Barretts Esophagus; EAC- Esophagael Adinocarcinoma)

Growing up we ate a healthy omnivore diet but as a teen I got progressively sicker. After every time I ate I'd be in severe stomach pain. The doctor ran allergy panels but I wasn't allergic to anything. Eventually I was referred to a specialist and they figured out that I have severe acid reflux. Omeprazole was prescribed as a short term solution, but long term I was told to change my diet. I'd need to cut out sugary foods, oily foods, and only eat lean meats and skim dairy. I decided to go 100% vegan/ whole food plant-based for a couple months and then gradually add things back in. But I felt so much better that 10 years later I'm still whole food plant-based. For me, being vegan means I'm not bedridden with stomach pain after every meal and I can actually function.

Proton pump inhibitors are a big business, so I'm not surprised that low stomach acid causing acid reflux isn't well studied. I have to side with the "anecdotal" evidence on this one. I have very mild "GERD" its chronic but not all that common sometimes per week i have a more sweet taste in the back of my tongue, and some... Air from the front door if you catch my drift that sometimes carries some semblance of drops of liquid. Usually i have that a few hours after i eat, but even after 8-10h afterwards when i am about to sleep. Idk why. Intermittent fasting helped (aka not eating close to my bedtime) and i haven't seen any improvement in a wfpbd. Anecdotes ofc. I am haven't been diagnosed but my mother and grandpa did. I am 24 and it's just getting more common (not necessarily worse) as i age... And suspiciously i am Greek like the study mentioned it's quite common here too.
