How big a draw was Ric Flair in the wrestling business? Let us know in the comments below!

Throughout the late 70s and early 80s he was probably 2nd only to Hogan, IMO

He basically carried the N.W.A. on his back in the '80's and early 1990-91 and when he came back to WCW after his stint WWF ( now WWE). He drew more than Hogan, Savage, and The Rock combined. Flair brought the fans and the money and that's remarkable being in a regional promotion at the time. There was times Flair wrestled seven nights a week in different parts of the country and world. You have to remember when Hogan was in his first run as champion in WWF-WWE he only wrestled a couple times a month and most of his challengers could had took the belt off of him but Hogan and his backstage politics and plus Vince Jr. not fully letting him actually wrestle ( he was a three move wrestler until he had wrestle Ultimate Warrior). When McMahon basically drove the other promotions out of business and destroyed the territory system, it made wrestling at the time one sided

There gets to be a point with any top guy where it feels like they've been on top for long enough... but the thing with Ric Flair is that even when Ric was at the top, he was putting guys over. Ric would lose the belt, get it back, make people look good in the ring... you remember Sting, Steamboat, Windham, Vader, Dusty, Magnum TA, Terry Funk, etc. Those guys were still main events. The only guys who really feuded with Hogan that had juice AFTER it was over were Macho Man and Piper. For the most part, after Hogan squashed a guy, they had no value at the top of the card after that. They'd be built up for Hogan to smash, then back down to the mid card or high mid card.

Chris Jericho - "Before one show, we had a big meeting backstage, and Eric was giving us this speech about how he was going to put Vince out of business in six months, guaranteed. And he knew how to do it. The rest of the guys didn’t because, Eric said, nobody in the room had ever drawn a dime except for Hogan, Savage, and Piper. Ric Flair-one of the greatest draws of all time-was sitting right there, and everybody’s kind of looking at him, and he just had to take it. It was a very bad atmosphere."

I've never understood the hundreds of thousands of young women willing to debase themselves as groupies or ring rats to take a turn on an STD covered flag pole of some rocker or wrestler or athlete... to me, it's like if they're licking the inside of a urinal at a crowded night club. But there are women standing in line, raising their hand, to do literally anything these guys want, for better or worse. I wouldn't want to be on either end of that. But the difference between Flair and Vince is that Vince had hiring and firing power over that woman he debased (and possibly others)... so at least with Vince, they can make the argument that they were threatened or coerced.

Ric Flair understood business down South, just leaving WCW with NWA, promoting Pro Wrestling, and letting Vince have Sports Entertainment, but WCW tried by leaving NWA to be just like Vince, and though the success was wrong in the end. Just like AEW today, only Sting as NWA made star has fired anything up during his retirement. They should have left NWA WCW style on TBS, how cool it could have been Scott Steiner as NWA World and Sting retiring in NWA. And Ric Flair working Pro Wrestling, and with the recent Vince thing, how cool NWA on TBS, Pro Wrestling. Let WWE have Sports Entertainment, NWA for life. Here's to Harley Race, Ric Flair, Arn Anderson, and yeah Nick Aldis.

Personally? I think it's all gross, but the hundreds of thousands of women lining up for a turn on that creepy old rock star are flashing their t-ts and begging to go back stage willingly... they want to "party with the band". So I'm not even sure what you mean by saying stuff takes it way too far. I think it goes too far when we try to legislate people's sexual relationships. If it's genuinely rape, and a girl was violated, that's taking away someone's autonomy and causing them harm. If they were ok with you taking away their autonomy though, why should we prosecute that? The majority of people want to be told what to do, because people are dumb.

@@johnathonkelly5117 No, I actually wouldn't want to be in that position... I'm too logical a guy, to me, all I can think about is the cheating, STDs, risk of being baby trapped... it doesn't look appealing. But, I can sort of put myself in Flair's shoes with the flight attendant. Ok, so, you're Ric Flair... women have been throwing it in your face for decades, and you're on a flight, you're drunk off your ass, and in your mind, you're not used to women being around you when you party who don't want you. Ric Flair's brain couldn't imagine that there's a flight attendant who wants to be loyal to her husband and doesn't want his magic wand. That kind of life messes you up. But also, a lot those groupies who lined up to be with Motley Crue or KISS or an NBA star or Ric Flair... if they had regrets once they sobered up? If they thought they could get revenge or take money? The odd thing about feminists is that they think women are better than men at everything... except these women never heard of lying or exaggerating for personal gain? Like, your toddler could think of lying to get their sibling in trouble, or to steal a cookie, or to get a bigger present... but a grown woman? Shocking right? So how do we know the difference between a real case of someone not consenting, and a case where the girl was a willing freak, but just regretted it later, or saw an opportunity to cash in? In the case with Vince, at least it's pretty clear that he abused his position of authority in the company... and it's just gross, so, he's going to get crushed in this. But how close do you think we are from every 1980s groupie suing Aerosmith, Motley Crue, Poison, White Snake, Metallica, and so on? How close are we to a thousand lawsuits against Shaq or LeBron? Because all they gotta do is consent 100%, then later on, say that they didn't... or say they were drunk, or anything.

Ric wasn’t a draw at that time. That’s a fact. I grew up in the 90s and don’t remember anyone talking about him during that time. And everyone in my class watched wrestling.

@chadthunderhawk1650 you definitely don’t know what you are talking about. Just because your class didn’t like flair means nothing😂😂. Hogans 1st match in WCW was against Flair. Flair was one of the few WCW talent that hogan trusted to work with. What other big name in WCW would Hogan work with besides Flair at that time??? Yeah I’ll wait because there is none except for Sting and that didn’t happen until 97😂😂

@@Choke-em-then-stroke-em No. you don’t know what you’re talking about. They didn’t start competing with and defeating WWF until new stars rose and crossover stars came over. I like Flair, too. But I’m keeping it real. His prime has ended before then and he wasn’t the major draw.

As a kid in the late 1990s, ric made me question if wrestling was real. I always thought, how could a flabby old man realistically beat up any of the younger roided up wrestlers lol.

@@chadthunderkawk1650 the 1st major feud for the NWO at the beginning was against the 4 horsemen bro…. His 1st title defense after turning heel was against Flair. He was always in the mix one way or another. His fire me I’m already fired promo drew some of the best ratings Nitro ever had🤷🏾 When the NWO lost steam by 99 Hogan was back feuding with Flair again. Hell besides sting flair was always hogans biggest feud in WCW bro lol

Wish i was having the time of my life. But that doesnt cater to all the cry babies who've taken over and spent 8 years doing home invasions and breaking all my things and smashing my teeth. Tough guys. Thats what they are. Everything is tough guy. I start enjoying something than the tough guy cry babies start crying for daddy attention. Too much fame and money around me. Just cant be normal anymore. Tough guys dont like normal.
