If not for the stupid mentality of this country toward marijuana, we might have been able to debate overrated. But nah, underrated for sure. Dude could do some of everything and, albeit usually a simple character, flat-out got over wherever he went. He has always been authentic and performed well in whatever role given, the athleticism and selling both shining through.
@@InsideTheRopes Underrated by a lot. RVD is a unique performer, with a style all his own. He has been influential, of course, and many wrestlers today try to emulate his spots. But none of them can do it the way Rob did: Rob made it look natural, made it look legit. You could suspend your disbelief with an RVD match. The modern larpers that steal his spots always make it look so choreographed, aka FAKE. I think RVD sometimes gets overlooked because of the way others have copied him. But it's not Rob's fault that they can't pull it off like he could.
@@cawreveiwer2010 no you're right. It was Johnny Ace that 💩👧🏼. Vince was only there having $€× with her while she was covered in the Bella Twins step dad's 💩
Watching RVD interviews really helps me work through my self esteem issues. I've never been the guy to get angry or blow up. I look to find a compromise and de-escalate even when i'm told to "get mad". It's really nice to hear I'm not a freak.
People like you have fewer insecurities and probably a greater depth of intellect. Rational people prefer to be around guys like you than hot-heads who may at any moment set off a powder keg. Violence and hostility as an immediate reaction to conflict are signs of poor socialization, lack of emotional maturity, and in some cases abuse. The thing you have to really watch out for is that you don't let people steam roll you, and that you can assert your boundaries effectively when needed. Some of the toughest men I know, Vietnam vets, have seen and done things no ordinary person can process, but are the most thoughtful, rational, calm and gentle people I've ever been around. TL;DR: you aren't a freak.
@@Junior13113 He should have won the title many more times. Very underrated. He had it for a hiccup. And it was stripped of him for nothing compared to what others have done. He wasn't one of Vince's babies like HBK.
5:42 I the term RVD was looking for is "Embezzlement", a type of financial crime, usually involving theft of money from a business or employer often involving a trusted individual taking advantage of their position to steal funds or assets, most commonly over a period of time.
I thought this too, but then he said the people were there to fill their own pockets and bring the company down. So technically both words would apply.
@@DBBMed espionage would only be apt if it was wrestlers leaking info to WWE. Embezzlement fits if its stealing money from inside the company. One of the Hebner brothers got fired for embezzlement from wwe for selling merch illegally
AEW will survive as long as Tony Khan spends money and tnt doesn't drop them. I think they can turn it around but they need to take the product more seriously instead of this hot shot booking.
As someone who had started actively watching TNA back in 2008, you’re dead on. It was never perfect, and there was never a shortage of disparaging comments towards it, but there were certain things you’d likely never get from the WWE at the time that I loved, like Christian having one of the best runs in his entire career as THE main-event alongside AJ Styles, Kurt Angle, and Sting. Not to forget how incredible the knockouts were at the time, when women wrestling was such an afterthought in the fed.
couldn't have said it any better, don't get me Wrong, I love Jericho, but he always needed to change things in order to remain relevant, while RVD didn't need to change anything to get over with the fans, if only Vince knew what an amazing talent he had in him
Maybe in popularity at the time. Maybe even in-ring, but definitely not as a character. While RVD didn't need that as popular as he was at the time, this is peak AE and characters and mic work reigned supreme in the main event card. But I get what you mean. RVD was so popular at the start of his WWE run that fans were pro-RVD against Jeff Hardy and we've seen over the decades how no matter what transgressions he's had, Jeff has been beloved to no ends regardless so that's a testament to how over RVD was upon entering the company.
@@WillMuny yeah that too, but compared to a lot of other stars that was arrested, he was the one who was treated the worst even though he only was carrying a plant (when other ppl did things way worse and still had a big push when they returned)
Close. It was thanks to Triple H. While Vince did not understand or respect ECW at all, he liked Rob and would go out of his way to thank him. Vince recognizes a draw. Triple H, who was involved heavily in creative even back when RVD first came in, was always intimidated by Rob. RVD is a unique performer with natural charisma, while Triple H is neither. Triple H has a long history of holding down guys he felt threatened his spot.
People always cheered RVD because he was a likeable character who always put in a strong performance and could wrestle with pretty much anyone. The fans recognized and appreciated his talent.
@@markl5998 k i don’t really care, people will kill a baby and then tell me smoking a plant is bad, idgaf, all I was saying is it’s funny people call him a stoner when he only smokes 1 or 2 j’s a day for only pain
AEW is in a very similar position but I think AEW has slightly better booking and a little more network support. It felt like TNA on Spike was just a thing and it was rare to see any mention of TNA anywhere other than Spike, and even during other programming on Spike - not a lot of visibility of the brand for commercials on their own network.
@@JustinTheGreatalso TNA lack structure and had some questionable booking decisions and other factors like Jarret and Russo and Dixie and so on and so on
This is definitely more relevant after the run Jericho has had in AEW where he pretty much has buried and made everyone he worked with come out looking worse than when they came in.
Love RVD shoots. Anger can be fun, but once you get that it comes from fear (and often leads to mistakes) it feels better to figure out what you're afraid of, face it, and conquer it. Not trying to be preachy, but that's his secret.
Anger is an emotion and can be incredibly useful, I know anger is the only reason I walked like 12 miles to my house on a broken foot after my ex hit me with her car lol, I wanted to pass out from the concussion but I didn't cause fuck that bitch I'm not dying on the side of the road
Embezzlement would be stealing money from the company, espionage would be sneaking around getting information to give to their competitors, sabotage is what he described though 😂
Do you think RVD's lady friend put enough eye lashes on? RVD, underrated as hell, they should have had him turn to team WWE during Invasion as he was super over and the crowd LOVED him....he could have pinned Austin to finish Survivor Series and poof!! you have another TOP guy.......sucks that when he finally reached the pinnacle (ECW and WWE Champ) he gets busted on the road.
vince was right. the only ecw fanbase left over was a small margin of the crowd. how else did cena get over so big during that time period? it was a new era. newer audiences didn't know or majorly care enough to be invested in older talent such as sabu and sandman. wwe gave them more than enough pushes and promo packages. rewatch the 2006 era and you'll notice the crowds weren't buying it outside of the 2 ecw one night stand pay per views. what happened was instead of trying to help evolve the brand the originals protested hard enough to destroy the product. by the time everyone understood ecw could be used to help promote new breed talent it had been tarnished beyond salvaging.
Wrong. 1988 33 million ppl saw Sat Night Main Event. The GOLDEN ERA was #1. Kids Today think The Attitude Era was good. Yea.. sure... the was good but not GREAT. The GOLDEN ERA players were the same ones that made it money. Monday Night Wars were bringing in 8 million per show. 16 million TOPS. Fantastic!! But still a 50% DROP from GOLDEN ERA money. The ATTITUDE ERA then went to the RUTHLESS AGRESSION ERA & PG ERA... which went to 4 mil & then now (today) 2 mil per show. Congrats..... They lost 75% of the viewers. We used to see Grandma, Grandpa, uncle, aunt, sister, brother, & family see the whole PPV. Now PG ERA saw only the kids. Maybe a dad. You lost so much but because people like you ARE THE KID you GREW UP as the kid!! So you are so blinded by it that it's your childhood!!! You can't see that MY CHILDHOOD so was much better than yours!!! AEW is struggling to get 1 million in a show.... in 1986 that would have been 1/33rd of what WWF did. Don't even TRY to compare. ECW, WCW, AWA, & many other territories did better back then. Even TNA owned this number. Stop lying.
ECW Forever.period.And RVD is one of the Cornerstones of this Company. You can not kill him and not can kill all the other Legends. No Chance it doesnt matter how much Cash Vince has.
About them trying to get him mad, it perfectly matches what Mark Henry said about Vince pranking him on purpose to make him mad because he thought that would make him a convincing heel. I think Vince had this weird idea about going Stanislavskij method acting with wrestlers. And if one thing can be said about Vince, is that he loved his own ideas, no matter how dumb they were.
Nobody is calling out the elephant in the room that has been there since RVD began appearing, that Riddle carried on with until it became an issue for them- HE REPRESENTS ALL US STONERS WHO LOVE WRESTLING TOO
RVD was always ahead of his time and WWE capitalized on him in his absolute prime. It's a shame about the legal thing with him and Sabu, and who's to say how that not withstanding would/wouldn't have affected the WWECW revival? We'll never know. Also, had no idea that mother fucker drank beer (that's gotta be beer, right?)
I always felt like the WWE didn't commit to pushing RVD the way they should have. He was a fan favorite, and he had solid in ring skills + personality. I think WWE really wasted opportunities with him, Al Snow, Billy Gun, and Dustin Rhodes either with dumb characters, or no push. That list could go on and on, actually.
ECW also destroyed itself; they got surpassed by even more "hardcore" promotions like XPW, CZW, IWA-MS, etc. The original ECW arena had even gotten bought out and renamed to The XPW Arena _(what it is, again today.)_ Paul Heyman is a sellout P.o.S. he contributed to the death of his own promotion; tainting its legacy, etc. The fact that something like "WWECW" even has to exist, will forever taint the legacy of the OG ECW unit. Sorry; the truth.
WCW fans and ECW fans both know what it's like to have their beloved brands trashed before their eyes all just to feed McMahon's ego. Considering how bad the Invasion was and how poorly superstars like DDP were treated, I'm somewhat glad that WWE never brought back WCW as a third brand like they did with ECW. Vince McMahon making himself the ECW champion is such a slap in the face to everything that ECW was.
LOL. Why is it cringe? That's his wife-not his mom. She's supposed to valet him. That's the whole point. Most guys aren't even successful / appealing enough to secure meals like that. Good for RVD! It'd be cringe if RVD actually _had_ to pull her up on stage; for that purpose. He didn't. She's there on her own accord; being a supportive wife. RVD provides her with a 5-star life, after all.
I would love to see RVD vs. Matt Riddle, cause they would have so much fun putting together the match, and then after the match, they would be out in the parking lot sharing a doobie lol
For the stupid people in the comments, he said espionage and described a espionage scenario...wrestlers sent from other company's to tank the company..not embezzlement
