@EE-md2lr
@EE-md2lr 3 года назад
The squash matches have been Goldberg's foil long before he even walked into WCW. The guy has no stamina nor cardio to go beyond 5 minutes in a match without blowing up, Eric hid that by having everyone work around him in a way that made him look good. I do believe there are some videos around on the times they tried to make him go 15 or 20 minutes, and the guy looks nearly dead with an oxygen mask on afterward.

It's silly to book Goldberg in title matches. Goldberg is an entrance with a Spear and a Jackhammer and he needs guys who can work around his limitations of being 50+ (basically a young bump guy). He should come back to squash an obnoxious heel in 2 minutes like the Miz or something where Morrison can interfere and take a sick bump. Booking him against monsters is generally a bad idea. Big guys generally have terrible matches and Goldberg is nowhere near as strong as he used to be. He can barely get big guys up for a Jackhammer. He's a novelty act and they've wasted him with these world title matches.

It's really easy to explain. The fans grew up with Sting. We all remember when Sting was a young kid, skinny frame, blond hair and facepaint. Over time we saw him grow up, win championships, bleed, get beat, become a menacing force when he became Crow Sting and the fans realized this guy above all loves pro wrestling. He was the guy Flair chose to wrestle as a goodbye match on the final night of WCW. Sting also didn't mind working with young guys and putting them over. He helped TNA grow. He's just iconic in wrestling. If WCW had lasted longer perhaps Goldberg would have become a WCW icon. As things stand Goldberg was just 1 moment in time.

Bingo, You are right on the money. Simply put Goldberg was the Ultimate warrior reincarnate. Fans can only watch= "punch, punch spear jackhammer" or "rope shake clothesline, clothesline hop splash" so many times before they get bored and could care less. If you only have like 5 or 6 moves, the act gets old fast. Had either one realized this and actually worked to get better and have learned say even 12 moves, they would have had far more longevity. Goldberg at least had the Warrior previously someone could have used to give him an example. I can't think of a guy who actually had a career in wrestling who was that limited before the Warrior. If you sucked that bad and didn't work to get better, you were no longer a wrestler back then The closest thing I can think of and it wasn't because of a lack of talent/skill (god this feels sacrilegious not only just because he actually had a far better move-set than either of those two) would be Andre the Giant Wrestling full-time For partner Frank Valois in Canada. Everyone came out to see this giant then after only a few months they stopped coming. Vince SR when Frank told him he had this giant who was fairly decent but people quit coming to see him rather quickly. It was Vince sr's idea to put him on the road as a travelling attraction like the NWA world champion, Moolah and the girls or the midgets. That way you kept him special. People wanted to see Andre "the giant" they didn't care at all about Andre "the wrestler" no matter how good or bad he was. If he came to your town once or twice a year like the girls, the midgets or the wrestling bear it was a cool special event. No one is going to go and see the Harlem Globetrotters week after week if they played in the same place.

To my knowledge the fans largely never resented Bill in WCW. The problem was after they let Kevin end the streak, they really didn't do shit with Bill until WCW died. Think about it. In the time between Starrcade 1998 and WCW's closure, we had Jeff Jarrett as world champion like 50 times. David Arquette as world champion. Vince Russo won it. But never again would Bill win the world title. When while holding it, he was the hottest thing in the industry with only Austin rivaling his popularity. Why do they largely resent him now? lol The whole WWE is like that though. Over rehearsed, over scripted and none of it ever makes any sense. The writing is about as good as a bad soap opera. My favorite example is when there is a big match coming up between two wrestlers they will meet and knock the other guy out with one body slam as a promo- do that like three different days before the big match. Then they have a 45 minute match where the same body slam is used 10 times and never knocks the other guy out. It is so cheesy. Normally I agree with your assessment, Mr Bischoff, but I have 2 items that I wholeheartedly disagree with. 1) Goldberg did always rerun the same moves in every match, that is 100% true, but I seem to recall William Regal trying to have a different match with him and being fired for it immediately. That cemented the Bill Goldberg (dis)assembly line of matches: Pyro, yelling, spear, jackhammer, hand raised. Anyone who tried to slow down that move-spamming Spear factory would get the pink slip. The MAJOR gripe I have, however, is when you stated "there were Hogan's and Luger's and Stings and---SAVAGES..." SIR !! Understand this, "Savages" can never be used....you may not compare the Macho Man to anyone, ever, especially saying "we had Savages..." There was only 1 Macho Man Randy Savage. The man was beyond legend status. I can picture him now, climbing up to the tippy top peak of heaven's turnbuckle, his fingers pointing straight up, pausing to take in the crowd's reaction, then coming down hard off that top cloud to rain hell in the form of an atomic sized elbow drop. Dig it!!

Yes I am a fan and as such I like or dislike wrestlers who I believe shouldn't be pushed. Goldberg was a one trick pony who couldn't have a 20-30 minute match.

Tony Randall I saw the kick. It wasn’t the kick. imo. Bret would never admit to hurting himself though. Seriously his head bounced off the concrete in that post figure four. I don’t care who paid there dues I care who entertains me Brutus Beefcake wrestled forever and paid dues but he’s horrible and cringe.

It's crazy, I'm 40 yrs old and have been a Sting fan since like 1987-88. Can't believe he's still wrestling at main event status. Glad to see he's done so well for so long. I hope he retires soon for the sake of his health.

The booking of Bill this time was a disaster. The legends night they had Orton harassing legends all night then at the end had Bill come out and challenge Drew because he as Bill said had been disrespectful to the legends. Huh? Either have Drew harass the legends and Bill comes out or have Bill challenge Randy. Then the moment makes sense and the fans can do something with it. Instead the fans just hoped Bill wouldn't f up Drew's title reign to give it to someone else at Mania.

Goldberg was this monster of a guy with a jetpack that skyrocketed to the top by winning matches against enhancement talent in under two minutes. He had to lose at some point, and when he lost a match, that jetpack fell off of him. Now, I totally agree, it should be about the young talent.

IMO Eric with all due respect, it’s mercenaries that ruined wwe, what do I mean by that, wrestlers who are there for the money and not the fans and two rights we as audience should be pissed off, people who are init for the money like brock, Goldberg, Sasha banks, Charlottle flair, Finn balor and all these money hungry people who don’t give a shit about the fans should be castrated out of wwe period..

Why should they care about the fans? We pay to see them wrestle not care about us I'm sorry to burst your bubble but in reality none of the wrestlers of any of the companies care about you they just want your money.

@@cm-py8xy well under your logic, people who are passionate about their living shouldn’t matter under your pretence. But that’s the main issue, it’s poor business economics, the company should be ran by people who are passionate and interested in the role and not just the big fat pay check....otherwise they won’t have any credibility or have interest in what there doing which comes across as autonomous and if there not enjoying what there doing, why would we?

I think the Goldberg v Brock angle was good because you had two guys that were both known for squashing people colliding. Where Goldberg doesn’t work is when you have feed him young and interesting talent like KO, Fiend and now McIntyre (thankfully He didn’t squash McIntyre)

I think Eric DOES has Self Awareness. I think he's speaking from a place of experience, having made those mistakes and learning from them. I think that's what qualifies him to say those things; the fact that he, himself, made those very same mistakes in WCW.

I don't disagree with Eric Bischoff. I think he's on point with Goldberg, but I would add a few more reasons. The match Goldberg had with Undertaker was atrocious and someone could have been seriously hurt. Now, I will say that people blame Goldberg for being out of shape or too old. I disagree. He hit his head on the ring post. That right there changed that match and made it dangerous to continue. Needless to say, that match made people see Goldberg as someone who is unsafe to work with. Second reason why people don't connect with Goldberg is because the fans don't want to see older talent winning the belt from the younger wrestlers. Goldberg had his time to shine. It's time for the new stars of wrestling to have their turn. And I completely agree. When WWE brought back Goldberg, they shouldn't have had him going after the WWE title. Instead they should have had him in matches where no title was on the line. Matches that would have a good build up but no title at stake, as Bischoff had stated in the video. This is how they should have utilized Goldberg. If they had done that then I don't think people would have much of a problem with him. As far as Sting, I think most people just really respect Sting. I know I do. He's always been my favorite wrestler. I've been a fan of his from the start. It's great to see Sting back on TV and working with AEW, but AEW needs to be careful. Too much Sting is a bad thing. We don't need to see him every week. We need Sting to show up at key moments. Moments when Darby needs truly needs his help. That would make for exciting moments with Sting. Right now, I think Sting is taking too much of the spotlight away from Darby. Watching the last AEW, Darby comes down to the ring and says nothing. Sting has all the spotlight and mic time and then they head back behind the curtain. That's not good for Darby. We're not seeing what Darby has to offer. Love the Stinger, but AEW's gotta get this fixed. And this isn't Sting's fault. This is just bad management of him by AEW. Less Sting, but when he does show up make it count and the crowd will LOVE IT.
