I used to really enjoy listening and indeed recording the BBC Radio 1 In Concert series on a Saturday evening during the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s. I also caught a few BBC Radio Friday Rock Show and Capital Radio sessions. I still have the cassette tapes and as the BBC has no immediate plan to make these available to the public I have decided to release close to 250 of these historical recordings on my RU-vid channel.

I literally saw Buddy Guy in concert earlier this month, here in Toronto at the newly restored Massey Hall. What a treasure he was! At 87 years old, his incredible stories of Muddy Waters and Son House have gotten a little more rambly, he walks through the crowd a little more slowly as he plays. But he has lost NONE of his guitar playing, and his voice is as strong as it ever was. I recall seeing how Chuck Berry played at the end of his life: a confused, clumsy shadow of what he was in his prime. It was kind of sad to see him tour right to the end. There was NONE of that here. Buddy Guy is as incredible today as he was onstage with Clapton here 35 years ago (now *I* feel old too). As far as I'm concerned he can keep on playing till he's 1,000 years old.

On a side note, I feel this is how we were always meant to hear the song "Money (It's What I Want)." Thanks to John Lennon & Co. for bringing it to the attention of the world, but this is the first time I feel like I heard what he heard, which made him bring it forward for the Beatles to record, rather than just hearing the results of that.

A truly wonderful concert which recorded on BBC Radio 1 In concert. Claptons' solo on Howling for Baby(song starts @58.33) is just absolutely awesome. It's mystifying that this show was not released as one of his finest live performances - no surprise with the musicians in his band that night. Some of these songs are available as videos but only just a few. Thanks for uploading .

Thank you very, very much. That year I attended the first concerts in a communist-free country. A wonderful time, we listened to a lot of blues, rythm'n'blues then (of course, Clapton obligatory for many years), but even then I couldn't dream of a concert at the Royal Albert Hall. Years later, when I heard E.C. live, tears came to my eyes on their own.

I took the photo and it's from the following night (4th Feb). Shortly afterwards, security had their hand on my shoulder and told me "no photos", so I put down my camera... just before Buddy, Robert Cray and EC all stepped up to the same mike to sing a line or two. Years later, they credited me for use of this 'not allowed' photo in one of EC's official Albert Hall programmes.

@philhonley
@philhonley 2 года назад
I feel the criticism is a little unfair as this was a quality radio broadcast recording. My guess is you have not listened to it in it's entirety. Why would you compare this recording with that of Muddy Waters? Two different artists and my guess is the Muddy Waters was possibly recorded on the sound desk.
