it doesn't matters how you call this song, both songs, waters and johnsons, base on the song "Roll and Tumble Blues" recorded in 1929 by Hambone Willie Newbern
So it's not just me! I listened to this, and immediately flashed back to the Rollin' and Tumblin' recorded on EC's Unplugged album... I'm not sure which was first, I almost thought that Rollin' and Tumblin' was kind of a continuation from this, an instrumental extension of some sort. Anyone know for certain?
If Dylan credits a version to himself, that is theft. The honourable thing to do is what Clapton has done: Rollin' and Tumblin' on the Unplugged album (and before that with Cream) is credited to Muddy Waters, and If I Had Possession is credited to Robert Johnson.
Yeah. You'll find dozens of versions of this song by a plethora of different artists, and under different titles. "If I Had Posession...," "Rollin' and Tumblin," "Drinking Muddy Water," they're all the same melody. I think that only the lyrics are copyrighted in this context.
ive just started gettin into slide guitar with open tunings, wen i first gave it a go i didnt get anywer with it, but now its starting to make sence. clapton has a great voice these days, i heard in an interview he got lessons
it's open G. it may be tuned a half step down (or up..i cant remember) but its g/ his accompanist may be tuned to E or some weird tuning, but its hard to tell, because he's a lefty and playing his Junior upside down. (his guitar is almost silent..I noticed) i put up a new 'exact' version of this, for practice ;)
