My God! This is a seriously outstanding performance. Clapton in full throat, Collins drumming like a hyperactive madman, everyone's in the groove. They seriously do NOT make 'em like this anymore.
This is my absolute favorite version of White Room--When Eric starts bending that Strat at 4:07 it sends shivers down my spine--add to that the phenomenal voice & keyboard of Greg Phillinganes--Nathan East on Bass and Phil banging those drums--it is simply perfection-L
Yea, indeed. By the way, that guy is named Greg Phillinganes. He was in the band Toto, later on, and before then he was in Michael Jackson's band. Personally, I think that they nailed the sound of the keyboards during this song; particularly during the choruses.
You can always tell when Phil Collins is drumming on any tune, especially on live tracks, he’s just got his own unique drum sound and always has had, even from the early Genesis days.
I am probably one of the rare who think that Eric actually made a huge progress on all levels as a solo artist. Dont get me wrong The Cream, Blind Faith and all other projects were great but alone Eric truly found himself in expression, sound, skill etc. Specially the sound of strat is so beautiful, powerfully overdriven yet sublime and full of clarity, just magical !
That's the red Strat that's on the cover of Monet and Cigarettes. Phil Collins is really a good rhythmic drummer. The organ player sings the break part real good. Nathan East on bass, comes in on time, adds humor to Clapton's seriousness.
@ Lucas Colbenson Not quite.!!!! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-E56HLAlPTD8.html Gary Moore - 1987 - 6. Empty Rooms + (Solo) as emotional as you can get.!!!!
We are covering this in the band, I love. This song I use the Clapton blackie with the lace sensor pickups. The lyrics are weird, but hes my hero so cares all hail GOD!!
@@robertsumners931 Gary was the most Emotional player ever! None will beat him in that regard, Jimi Hendrix id say was the most creative and possibly most explosive too, Gary and Jimi are my favorite players! 🤘🏻
Its almost like a spirit comes over Eric Clapton and plays through him when they open the shoot and turn him loose on a guitar solo. Amazing! No wonder fans used to call him God in the early days LOL! I think he got kind of tired of it but seriously the guy is awesome.
Spot on. He said in an interview once that usually during a gig he will be ‘transported’ at some point, or words to that effect and by the time he realises that, the moment had passed. I think that is what we see in this solo.....just amazing,....
And God created Eric Clapton!! This line up is World Class...PC..EC...Greg Philliganes and Nathan East.....we cannot go back but we can watch these videos........
I'll wait in this place where the sun never shines; Wait in this place where the shadows run from themselves. I'll wait in the queue when the trains come back; Lie with you where the shadows run from themselves. I'll sleep in this place with the lonely crowd; Lie in the dark where the shadows run from themselves. That dude on the key board and back up vocals has a great voice...perfect for this great song. One of my all time favorites. The icing on the cake is Phil Collins.
I first saw Eric with Cream when I was 16, and have been listening to him ever since. Every note I could. And I think this is one of his greatest solos ever, along with the "Have You Ever Loved a Women" solos in the Scorsese blues documentary. No one can construct a solo with that much passion AND structure. It is like a great short story told with sirens.
I remember seeing this on TV and liking what this lineup did with it. I wonder what Jack and Ginger thought. Phil Collins is superb on drums, Greg Phillinganes excellent on keys and vocals, Nathan East solid on bass and Eric Clapton is as good as he ever was in Cream. We got gigs like this on TV in the '80's.
Eric Clapton, I remember after listening to this other great song, my friends and I decided to paint my room white, and we put up black curtains, black bed sheets, black pillow cases, etc. Those riffs that you play with the guitar, makes me and the guitar weep! Rock on Eric...
Two of my ICONS locked IN! Phil has this....he obviously listened to the Cream version. The count in for the lead break......Oh Yeah!! Clapton looks like he is lost in the moments of Cream long ago......And what great musicians to have with you on stage...MMMMMmmmmmmm YEAH!
Absolute carnage! Never seen anybody match this energy and yet manage to play like this. You'd have to be god to have done this countless times in live shows.🙇♂️🙌✨️
Clapton is amazing, one of my all time favorite guitarists. Just watch his face during the solo, he's playing it through his head. Complete control and amazing brain-to-finger work. The dude just rocks.
Best version of this song for me. I come back every so often to hear Eric absolutely destroy that strat from 4:06 onwards. I love him when he's in this mood - just crazily aggressive while maintaining his precision and tightness. Probably the cocaine, but yeah still bloody amazing nonetheless 😂😎
Fantastic. One of my favorites by Cream. I saw Erik Clapton and His Band in Honolulu in the early seventies. A concert I will never forget. Thanks to Erik my date and I had fantastic seats.
After the untimely and unfortunate death of the Supreme Master of the Electric Guitar - James Marshall Hendrix, Clapton is indefinitely and undisputably GOD! What a SOLO! PERFECT! SUPREME!
LOL! 😂 Respect! I remember-and this goes to show how OLD I am-🤣 when when I was a kid, like, 100 years ago, 😆we used to drive cross country on vacation in the summer. Whenever we had to stop at a rest stop to go for a bathroom break, I remember there was always graffiti written-or more like carved 😂-into the bathroom stalls saying either “CLAPTON IS GOD” or “HENDRIX IS GOD”. Never understood that til I got old enough to discover both. Glad I was fortunate enough to eventually grow up with their music and classic rock in general.
Clapton IS and always will be God to me too. I've watched this a thousand times - I like the wry smile he allows himself at around 4:40, when he knows he's nailed the solo ... but also, the grimace at 5:16, when he fucks up the high bend, lol.
I still remember having 9yo' and watching this concert on my dad's VHS. When I listened to Clapton's solo on this song I was so blown away by it that decided that I had to play guitar. 17 years later I still got goosebumps and playing the guitar. Absolutely phenomenal.
I think this is one of the great Clapton solos recorded, albeit froma semi-obscure concert film. Beyond just being blistering, it's got an almost perfect structure to it. Virtuosity coupled with passion. And I love that at about 4:40, you can tell that Clapton himself knows he's in the midst of something phenomenal, even by his standards. This is transcendent.
Gonna sing this classic ...I sang this last with the Frustrations Amalgamated in the Seventies. ....good old days of Rock ! I just love ROCK !!! Clapton is truly amazing !
The song gives me goose bumps.hairs on my back are up.eric clapton is the best blues rock guitarist that ever lived.thats What bb king said.fnc miamiman
In the white room with black curtains near the station. Black-roof country, no gold pavements, tired starlings. Silver horses run down moonbeams in your dark eyes. Dawn-light smiles on you leaving, my contentment. I'll wait in this place where the sun never shines; Wait in this place where the shadows run from themselves. You said no strings could secure you at the station. Platform ticket, restless diesels, goodbye windows. I walked into such a sad time at the station. As I walked out, felt my own need just beginning. I'll wait in the queue when the trains come back; Lie with you where the shadows run from themselves. At the party she was kindness in the hard crowd. Consolation for the old wound now forgotten. Yellow tigers crouched in jungles in her dark eyes. She's just dressing, goodbye windows, tired starlings. I'll sleep in this place with the lonely crowd; Lie in the dark where the shadows run from themselves.
I am a huge fan of Phil Collins , but "the professional training "? Please ! Both are not professionally trained ,they play with heart and feel with years of playing experience. Phil is just playing Gingers song with his style which is different but both have very distinctive creative technique.
So many years later. Still think the album version of eric Clapton crushed it. I dont think anything compares to how good he played in the album version.
