NOTE: This is the first time Eric played Running on faith with his band on MTV. Eric fills a different solo and some other slide fills. After a while they played it again and that's the original recording. ;-)
It was his golden age in a lot of ways. His electric stuff from the period is amazing too. From The Cradle is not far from this concert either. It's amazing what you can do when you get clean.
My thoughts exactly. Fantastic musician he is. If I could pick one guy to have his skills Its Slowhand.Haters saying anyone can play the blues aren't players or they wouldn't say that stupid shit. EC talent is undeniable
Some time ago, a colleague invited me and he put on Clapton unplugged. I recognized the album by the applause at the beginning before the first note rang out. Guess I really love that record.
Eric Clapton is a classic....Love this song...reminds me of my daughter that was killed in a car accident August 27, 2012....all you can do is rely on your faith and love.....
I saw Eric Clapton and Ray Cooper in Dallas back in the 80s. It was the benefit concert for Ronny Lane and it was one the greatest concerts if my life. So many great British musicians one that tour; Joe Cocker, Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton, Ray Cooper, etc. Minds were blown that night. Rock & Roll!
He is living proof of what happens when you don't die to soon!!! a Master of his craft and a hero for so many of us!!! Thank you for posting this, Well done
BTW Runing on faith is not his song, it was written by Jerry Lynn Williams as other Journeyman songs: Pretending, No Alibis, Anything for your love, and Breaking point.
I love how Eric sings, not just his Guitar playing. He is in the correct key and just is really never rated as a singer I believe because he is so absolutely FANTASTIC playing the Guitar. Andy Fairweather-Low is no slouch on the Guitar neither. He can sing and play very well also. Give the old recording of the ARMS Concert for Ronnie Lane and MS back in 1983, at The Royal Albert Hall, then carrying on to a few cities in America, marking the first time Eric, Jimmy Page, and Jeff Beck all got up on stage and played together, Andy played with and on nearly Every Song on Part One and Part Two, singing Man Smart, Woman Smarter, an actual Harry Belafonte song. That concert was really good and looks like everyone who played had a Great Time doing it. I suppose this is why they continued onwards to the USA and played in like Dallas and New York plus a few other cities as well. I know that Andy Fairweather-Low was in Eric's band for a good long time, over 10 years I am 99.999% certain. Anyway, Jimmy Page was fighting his addictions during this period of time, so he didn't look very well on some nights, it truly shows just how dedicated he was. Would have been very easy to have just brushed the shows off and stayed home in England, I believer they all very much had a place in their hearts for Ronnie Lane.
Nothing like the sound of a resonator guitar. And in the hand of EC it really comes alive. He has the slides and the sound that comes from the Delta. Ue this is the instrument they often played. Thanks for this EC!
This has to be my favourite Clapton performance. The feel/quality of the vocal hit me first. There is a "Lennon" type feel to the song . Overall just fabulous.
Not bad for an anglo Brit who has learned to perform in the blues tradition. I am thankful to him to give credit and bring to my awareness the Mississippi delta players who inspired him such as muddy Waters and the haunting late great Robert Johnson especially. Such a rich and soulful musical legacy is a great place to travel . I felt after reading his autobiography that It was easy to see the where, why ,and how he became such a good musician. It really can come down to talent ,temperament, timing ,and how you deal with holes in your bucket. I am glad that he has brought joy to so many fans. I am one, although sometimes reluctantly. Mixed.
Running on faith One, two, three, four Lately I've been running on faith What else can a poor boy do? But my world will be right When love comes over me Lately I've been talking in my sleep Can't imagine what I'd have to say Except my world will be right When love comes back your way I've always been One to take each and every day Seems like by now I'd find a love who'd care, care just for me And we go running on faith All of our dreams will come true And our world will be right When love comes over me and you Ooh, I've always been One to take each and every day Seems like by now I'd find a love who cares just for me Then we'd go running on faith All of our dreams would come true And our world will be right When love comes over me and you Yes, it would When love comes over you Love comes over you Love comes over you (love comes over you) All of our dreams will come true (love comes over you) Love comes over you (love comes over you) All of our dreams will come true (love comes over you) When love, when love comes over you (love comes over you) And all of our dreams will come true (love comes over you) Love comes over you (love comes over you) Love comes over you (love comes over you) Love comes over you (love comes over you) Love comes over you (love comes over you) Love comes over you (love comes over you) Love comes over you (love comes over you) Love comes over you (love comes over you) Love comes over you (love comes over you) Thank you Songwriters: Jerry Lynn Williams
He is the man! Puzzles me as to why people insist on saying so and so is better or he's past it? He covers all genres with such grace and class, no one else comes close,a true master!
For me this is the best video i've ever seen singing Running On Faith one of my fav.from the album Unplugged. I love Eric Clapton a lot..no words can describe..lovehimsomuch. 💝💝💝🎸ec
Listen to Clapton's singing on the Beano Album and then here in 1992; no other singer improved like he did, at least in the world of rock/pop. Like Lennon he didn't think his voice was any good, both of course had incredible voices...
I believe that it was Delaney Bramlett who broadened his outlook and encouraged EC to nurture and focus on his singing voice lest he lose its potential... and he has become a very, very fine Singer by itself..!
Wow This is really really good...thanks for posting ...I have seen the original . Ever since I first heard heard Eric way back when I was just a young lad of about 12 - way over 50 years ago now....I knew in my music loving heart that I was hearing something special. Boy was I right or what. He is just a musical gift to us all.
Well, you did it right this time up. I see several others people also noticed: You make playing Slide Guitar look so Easy! Such a Loving, beautiful, Gospel like song. It's good to hear the feeling in you for this Song. God bless the boy who loved to play his guitar so much, that The Whole World now listens, and agrees. Eric Patrick Clapton Job Well done.
You know guys first time I heard Eric Clapton song cocain I thought he is a hard rock singer but when I hear his unplug song I change instantly my belief ,
My dad played guitar double neck steel and he had an older single neck. I took him once to guitar show case in the bay area there happed to be quite a few people in the shop he had a crowd around him. He tuned an acoustic broke out a slide and had a crowd of musicians around him they said they had never seen anyone play like that it was years ago I grew up with it so I didnt think it was any big deal. LOL he allso told me back in the 1930's He was playing at a road side dance in string Town Oklahoma someone happend to see a car with automatic rifles in the back seat and called the local sheriff . It turned out to be Bonnie and clide they killed the sheriff's deputy. That is a true story. He was a character I onley wish I had learned more from him. The memories came back as I remembered Claptons song I shot the sheriff.
Every time I listen to this album I think “damn I think the piano is the best part of this whole album”. And this is the album that inspired me to play the guitar. Let’s hear it for chuckie. Holy shit.
Enjoy this recent interview with Chuck and his Unplugged experiece, if you haven't already seen it. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5pw4edVDlVY.html
Great performance. I was listening to the percussionist and MAN! He has that Tambourine MASTERED. Listen to his chick chick rhythm playing its TIGHT! Great band.
Yep. He is using G-tuning. G tuning is like this: - E down to D - A down to G - D wil stay at the same - As well as the fourth string will be as a G - And the fifth string will be as it is: a B - And the top string down to a D Summary: D-G-D-G-B-D
Running On Faith one of my fav. song by the album Unplugged..and this is my favorite video of Eric.. i always watch this video over and over again..love comes over you Eric.. luvuforevermhilet💖💖💖 🌹🌹🌹🌹🎸ec
great to see an accomplished slide player in this century it is honestly how i judge a guitar player they dont have to be good, but if they can slide theyre alright
Eric Clapton.... one of the few greats.... but don't forget Mark Knopfler..... amazing... and my childhood classmate Stevie Ray Vaughn.... one of a very few.... the proverbial cream of the crop.
